Shooting Stars were defeated in Guinea Bissau in the first leg of the Niger 2019 preliminary qualifier.

Sierra Leone Shootings Stars will be facing their Guinea Bissau counterpart in the hunt for a place in the next stage on the road to Niger 2019.

Sierra Leone Cameroonian technician, Ken Tabi has expressed optimism of overturning a 1-0 deficit loss to Guinea Bissau two weeks ago at the Estadio Nacional 24 de Setembro in the capital city of Bissau.

The two sides go head to head again in the return leg of the 21st edition Total U20 Africa Cup of Nations preliminary qualifiers on Saturday 21st April at the Bo Coronation Ground, South of Sierra Leone.

The technician noted, it is possible for his team to overturn the 1-0 deficit because as he puts it “They now know the Bissau Guineans better than before”.

“I am optimistic because, before we did not know our opponents, we did not know their strength but now we know their strength and weaknesses and even how they play.

“We train twice a day-morning and evening to keep the boys fit and prepare to do our final assessments before choosing the appropriate squad for the match”, Tabi said.

“We must understand that our players do not have the required fitness for a match considering the long absence of national leagues across the country but we are working on that ahead of the tie this weekend”, Coach Ken added.

He pointed out that they have the full support of the SLFA administration for the match. The U-20 Head Coach said they lost the first leg in Guinea Bissau due to a technical mistake by the goalkeeper, after giving a pass to the opponent striker to score in an open goal.

Ken Tabi called on Sierra Leoneans to give their unflinching support to the team as they continue preparation for Saturday’s encounter. He assured the nation of qualifying the team to the next stage of the competition.

Liberia FA elections gets Court injunction

Liberia FA elections gets Court injunction

The race to elect new Liberia Football Association president after eight years under Musa Hassan Bility has taken another twist, following aspirant George Solo court injunction.

Mustapha Raji, LISCR FC’s president (Pictured) secured 16 votes, Musa Shannon current vice president amassed 13 votes and former Soccer international, George Solo was able to secure five, during the LFA elections on Saturday, April 14.

None of the three candidates reaches the 18 votes of two -third simple majority as stipulated in the LFA constitution, ushering the elections into a direct runoff between Mustapha Raji and Musa Shannon.

Seven minutes to kick-start the Presidential runoff the Civil law court of Liberia through the Protest of George Solo ordered that the Presidential runoff been put on hold with immediate effect.

According to Solo, he went to court because Mustapha Raji is not a degree holder, which is a violation of the election guidelines. Solo alleged prior to the election the degree he presented was fake.

The former ex-international also alleged that Raji did not go through all the electioneering process and as a result, ‘the route is not clean and credible’ he told our African correspondent in Liberia.

Defending such allegations Raji classed Solo as a coward and vehemently stated, ‘I went through all the process from integrity checks, Nationality, and educational status which was presented to the bodies set up for the election as mandated by the LFA constitution.’

“I am very disappointed at George Solo for his attitude towards this election for filing in a court injunction on such grounds.”

“I have proven myself to the delegates, the youths, Children of Liberia, and they have the desire for me to lead them this is just a distraction from solo,” he told Football Sierra Leone African correspondent in Liberia.

Deputy Minister of Sports Andy G. Quamie admittedly stated, “The Process was clean, fair, and transparent wherein all three candidates were given the green light to contest. In my view, this court injunction is very unfair to the People of Liberia they deserved better than this.”

Meanwhile, Football delegates and Pundits are pointing fingers to Liberia big spender politician Ben Urey as the rock behind this court injunction; they also alleged he is the sponsor of George Solo Presidency.

Meanwhile, no date yet has been announced for a hearing at the Civil Court of Liberia.

Striker injury leaves Vancouver Whitecaps short of options

Striker injury leaves Vancouver Whitecaps short of options

Vancouver Whitecaps are suddenly looking short of striking options after Sierra Leone striker Kei Kamara ruled out with a groin injury.

The Leone Stars veteran goal poacher was unavailable in Vancouver’s 2-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC on Friday night at home and his absence was felt.

The defeat ends the ‘Caps 11 home undefeated streak at BC Place. The Caps suffered consecutive losses for the first time in 40 matches, dating back to March 2017.

Coach Carl Robinson confirmed that Kei Kamara underwent MRI analysis on Friday but the club will have to wait to know the extent of the injury.

“He had an MRI on Friday,” said Robinson. “So I haven’t got the results yet,” Robinson, told reporters after his side defeat to LAFC. “I think he’ll be out for a period of time.”

“It’s not ideal,” Robinson worriedly admitted. “But we’re going to go through periods this year where you don’t create a number of chances, and we’ve had them in two consecutive games.

“We just have to go back to the drawing board. Whether it’s trying a different formation, whether it’s a tweak in personnel.”

Kamara has scored three goals and two assists in his five appearances for the Whitecaps so far this season.

“We’ll have to wait and look at how serious Kamara’s injury is, which will probably know a little bit more about next week.”

Robinson added, “We’re always looking to bring in players. We try to strengthen our team as often as we can. I am not going to bring players in for the sake of it. They have to be better than what we have.

The Whitecaps next outing is away to Kamara’s former club Sporting Kansas City April 21 at the Children’s Mercy Park.
