U20: Bissau to face Nigeria after eliminating Sierra Leone

Guinea Bissau will battle Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in the next stage of the Total U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after eliminating Sierra Leone 1-0 on aggregate at the Bo Stadium on Saturday.

Host Shooting Stars failed to win at home, giving Coach Emiliano Te’s men the chance to face Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in May this year in the Race to Niger 2019.

Italy’s Sampdoria striker João Cláudio Gomes Ricciulli scored the only goal for the visitors in the first leg in Bissau at the 24 de Setembro Stadium.

The skipper was not available today but they managed to hold on to a goalless in Sierra Leone.

This is the fifth defeat in recent years for Shooting Stars and has been eliminated from this competition mostly at the preliminary stage.

The Gambia was the last to eliminated Sierra Leon after the young Scorpions recorded a convincing 4-0 aggregate over Shooting Stars in the two legs in the race to Rwanda in 2017.

The young Djurtinhos will host the Flying Eagles in the next round clash on May 11, 12 or 13 with the return leg in Nigeria a week later.

The final tournament will be hosted by Niger in 2019 with the four semi-finalists qualifying for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup

CAF U20: Guinea Bissau captain misses Sierra Leone game

Guinea Bissau U20 skipper, João Cláudio Gomes Ricciulli, (Pictured) is out of the Total U20 Africa Cup of Nations preliminary second leg qualifier.

The Sampdoria Primavera attacker scored the only goal at the Estadio Nacional 24 de Setembro in the capital city of Bissau in the first leg two weeks ago.

Coach Emiliano Te’s men are in Sierra Leone with a slender 1-0 advantage but very vital ahead of this afternoon contest at the Bo Coronation Ground, South of Sierra Leone.

Reports from Bissau has stated the Sampdoria B striker is not in Sierra Leone for the second leg match because of the Guinea Bissau Football Association (FFGB) request came too late for his club to release Coach Te’, key man.

“The Italians did not permit him for the match that will take place in Sierra Leone,” the report stated.

However, the young Djurtinhos technician added four new players to his side.

History

FC Zurich won its first national championship in the season 1901/1902. Between 1924 and 2009, 11 more national championship titles followed and the club won the Swiss Cup 8 times between 1966 and 2014.

The latest major highlight was the win of the 9th Swiss Cup title in 2016.

Due to its national success, FC Zurich was also given the opportunity to participate in various UEFA competitions and thus prove itself internationally as well.

In the 1960’s and 1970’s, the club enjoyed noteworthy success in each of the three European club competitions. Particularly, it has to be highlighted that the club reached the semi-final of the European Cup of the Champions twice.

In 1964, only the famous team of Real Madrid managed to stop FC Zurich on their way to the final and, in 1977, English record champions Liverpool FC beat FC Zurich in the semi-final after the Swiss had already eliminated famous opponents such as Glasgow Rangers and Dynamo Dresden from the competition.

FC Zurich has also been continuously supplying players for the Swiss-A national team and various international youth sides throughout its entire club history.
