Midfielder Ibrahim Sorie Barrie enjoying life at Víkingur Ólafsvík

Midfielder Ibrahim Sorie Barrie says he is enjoying life at Vikingur and is eager to continue helping the team improve.

The 21-year-old versatile midfielder scored his first goal for the club in May. Since his move, he has made 12 appearances helping the club to Icelandic Cup semi-finals.

“I’m happy here. I’m enjoying my football with my teammates. I just want to keep doing well to help the team,” Barrie told FSL News.

“Vikingur is a very good team with a very good coaching staff too. The level of competition makes it a challenge for me.

“It was a tough start, but with determination and help from my national teammate Kwame Quee, I never give up, I’ll always give my best.”

The young prospect, who has earned over 4 caps with Sierra Leone, added: “It’s another step in my career in terms of new experiences. Iceland is a very good country, peaceful, and friendly. I am enjoying the natural hills. With the way God created it.”

“Since I came here, I have played in all the important games, including the pre-season matches.”

“A huge experience for me, I am very grateful for having this opportunity to meet with different nationalities. The positives are that we all get along well.”

The FC Johansen player, who was the hero when Sierra Leone knocked out Cameroon during the 2016 Olympic Games football qualifiers in May 2015 in Yaoundé, also paid tribute to the Leone Stars coach John Keister.

“Thanks to God for everything. I want to also highlight my national head coach John Keister who has helped me greatly because most of the things that he was teaching us very similar here.”

The versatile midfielder was the skipper of the Sierra Leone side and scored the goal in the 93rd minute that eliminated Cameroon from 2016 Olympic Games football qualifiers in May 2015 under Keister.

He joined the Icelandic second-tier side on loan from FC Kallon in January 2018.

Two Foreign-based in team to start against Liberia

National head coach, John Keister, has announced his first team to face the Lone Star of Liberia later this evening at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

IK Frej defender Alie Sesay and former Portsmouth, Notts County and Partick Thistle right-back Mustapha Dumbuya, who can also play as a winger are both in the coach starting eleven that is dominated by home-based players.

Experience attacking midfielder, Julius Wobay will be playing behind the top three in a 4-2-1- 3 system.

The friendly showdown is part of Liberia’s 171st Independence Day celebration.

President George Weah is expected to be among a host of dignitaries including former Sierra Leone skipper Mohamed Kallon.

Liberia v Sierra Leone last encounter was on 05 June 2017 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, which was won by Liberia 1-0.

ENGLAND: Bristol City keeper, Alhaji Sesay debut for Sierra Leone will have to wait following confirmation that the player is no longer available for today’s friendly clash against Liberia.

The starlet and his club are both unavailable for comments.

Meanwhile, the national team landed safely in Monrovia on Saturday ahead of the contest with the Lone Star with three foreign-based players.

They are Umaru Samura from Ivoire Academy, IK Frej defender Alie Sesay and former Partick Thistle Right wingback Mustapha Dumbuya.

Bakayoko features in Walsall’s 2-0 drubbing over Ajax

Sierra Leonean striker Amadou Bakayoko was in Dean Keates’ squad, as the English League One side Walsall FC beat European giants Ajax at the Banks’ Stadium.

Walsall summer signing Andy Cook scored a brace for the Saddlers against Ajax in Thursday’s pre-season warm-up tie.

The striker netted in each half to sink the European heavyweight, who next week will take part in the second qualifying round in the Champions League.

The host opened the score-line from in the 27 minutes as Cook planted a firm header into the bottom corner from Trialist A’s pinpoint cross.

He added his second with 19 minutes remaining after he controlled a Maz Kouhyar’s cross on his chest before steering a right-footed snap-shot in off the post.

Walsall’s Dean Keates was full of praise for his players.

A well-taken Andy Cook brace earned the Saddlers a 2-0 win against the Dutch giants – and Keates was pleased with his side’s performance.

“Full credit to the lads,” he said.

“Performance-wise, it’s progressively got better over the last five or six days.”

“Against Villa and Stoke we got pulled apart at times, there were too many gaps,” he told the club’s website.

ICELAND: Kwame Quee helps Vikingur reach Icelandic Cup Semis

The Sierra Leone winger Kwame Quee played a pivotal role on Wednesday as Vikingur beat Vikingur Reykjavik 1-0 to reach the semi-finals of the Icelandic Cup.

23-year-old midfielder, Sasha Litwin Romero in the 88th minute, scored the match only goal.

Quee, 22, has been a key player for Vikingur and has scored four goals in his last six matches in as many games this season for his Icelandic second-tier side.

Sesay, Dumbuya boost Leone Stars camp ahead of trip to Liberia

The Leone Stars camp on Friday boosted with the arrival of two foreign-based defenders in Freetown.

Swedish club IK Frej Taby defender Alie Sesay, who could make his comeback to the Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars against Lone Star of Liberia in Monrovia joined the team’s final training in Freetown.

Sesay, 24, last played for Leone Stars of Sierra Leone  in Ivory Coast in 2014 during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Former Partick Thistle right-back Mustapha Dumbuya was also part of Friday’s evening training session ahead of their departure to Liberia on Saturday.

Liberia requested a friendly with the Sierra Leone Stars as part of programs marking its 171st Independence Day celebration at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s new interim head coach Thomas Kojo has included three foreign-based players that are currently in the country on holiday in his squad.

They are Jordan-based centre defender Teah Dennis, Lebanon-based midfielder Theo Weeks, and Norwegian star player Sam Johnson.

Abraham Mebratu appointed Walias new coach ahead of Sierra Leone tie

Ethiopian Football Federation has appointed Abraham Mebratu as the new coach of the National Team, Walia Ibex, Soccer Ethiopia reported.

The 48-year-old first task will be against Sierra Leone in Ethiopia in the race to Cameroon 2019.

They lost their opening Group F qualifier 5-0 in Ghana their next game is hosting Sierra Leone in September.

The new coach, who is also an Ethiopian has experience in national coaching. In March 2018 Mebratu’s Yemen senior team qualified for the Asian Cup for the first time.

The last Ethiopian National Team coach, Ashenafi Bekele, resigned in December 2017 and the team was without a coach since then.

Strong test for Alhassan Kamara’s Häcken against German side RB Leipzig

Alhassan Crespo’ Kamara and his Swedish club BK Häcken will face strong test against German RB Leipzig in the next stage of the Europa League.

The Gothenburg-based club will be away in Germany in the Europa League second qualifying round first leg tie on July 26 after the eliminating FK Latvian side Liepaja 4-2 on aggregate.

Next Thursday, Emil Forsberg’s RB Leipzig is waiting in Germany and the return tie in Gothenburg played a week later.

The Leone Stars striker played a part in Häcken’s 2-1 defeat on Thursday at home after head coach Andreas Alm chooses to rest heavy names like Alexander Faltsetas, Daleho Irandust and Paulinho because of their first leg 3-0 away victory.

The visitors, who make life difficult took the lead from a Sady Guèye goal 11min into the first half at Bravida Arena in Gothenburg.

Ghanaian attacker Nasiru Mohammed levelled things for Häcken before Ģirts Karlsons scored the visitor’s winner six minute to full time.

Elsewhere, George Davies Latvian side FC Riga and Hassan Milla Sesay FC Finish top-tier FC Lahti are both of this year’s Europa League.

Sesay’s FC Lahti heavily lost their first leg contest at home 0-3 to Icelandic side FH Hafnarfjördur and played to a goalless draw on Thursday while George Davies’ Latvian side FC Riga won 1-0 at their Skonto Stadium but eliminated on penalties.

Riga suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Bulgarian top-tier side CSKA Sofia at the Bulgarska Armia Stadium.
