Yayah Kallon nets first Serie A goal on debut

Sierra Leone’s Yayah Kallon made a dream start to his Serie A adventure after scoring on his Hellas Verona debut in their 1-1 draw with Empoli on Wednesday.

Kallon, 21, who joined the Italian side on a season-long loan last month, came on as a second-half substitute to hit the only goal for his side in the 69th minute.

The attacker made the most of Doig’s assist to finish with a perfect shot into the corner to the left of Vicario. It has been a great start to the season for the Sierra Leone attacker.

Hellas Verona remain 16th on the Serie A log after being unable to win in their last four matches.

He was part of Genoa’s 1-0 Serie A win over Cagliari in May 2021 and has been handed a new adventure in the Italian top flight.

Last season, Kallon gained further Serie A experience by collecting 15 overall appearances, enhanced by two assists. However, Genoa was relegated.

The Gialloblù will return to the field on Sunday, 4 September kickoff, at 6 pm, when they will face Sampdoria at the ‘Bentegodi’ stadium, in the match valid for the 5th day of the Serie A.

Bo Rangers part ways with star striker Musa Kamara

Bo Rangers part ways with star striker Musa Kamara

Sierra Leone reigning Champions Bo Rangers FC have confirmed star striker Musa Noah Kamara has left the club.

The 22-year-old, who was the Sierra Leone Premier League best player and top scorer after spending just one season, will start a search for a new club.

His contract termination comes ten days before the Southern Province outfit CAF Champions League debut against Algerian CR Belouizdad. “We regret to inform you that we have terminated your contract with us, effective 1 September 2022.

Kamara, who scored for Sierra Leone B side in their 2-1 defeat against Mali in the CHAN qualifying second round first-leg at the SDK stadium in Liberia on Saturday, is now a free agent.

Over the last few months, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Kamara and Bo Rangers.

Recap

In July, after news that the striker is to join the South African side Kaizer Chiefs, Bo Rangers at the time, say their talisman Musa Noah Kamara’s status at the club has not changed.

Kamara, who helped Rangers with 19 goals to win their first league title in 68 years, was part of the Sierra Leone side during the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He is a back-to-back golden boot winner – the Rangers striker is the first local star to achieve this milestone. He first won the 2019 Sierra Leone National Premier League with 15 goals with then champions East End Lions.

He scored the first goal that helped to revive Sierra Leone to a 2-2 draw against the Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations group stage at the Japoma Stadium in January.

The South Province outfit became the second team outside the capital, Freetown, to win the Sierra Leone Premier League after Diamond Stars triumphed in 2012 and 2013.

Algeria 2022 Nations Championship qualifying first-leg wrap-up

With a 4-1 victory over Djibouti in the first leg of the last qualifying round of the 2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held in Algeria, Sudan have taken a serious option in the race for qualification.

At the end of the first leg scheduled from 26 to 28 August, Sudan are really the only team that have given themselves the means to make a quiet return match after a big away win (4-1).

However, Mali and DR Congo, who won on the same score of 2-1, have also made big steps towards the qualification to the 2022 TotalEnergies CHAN.

In the other matches, the many narrow scores noted allow explosive second leg matches.

In WAFU A, Senegal beat Guinea 1-0, while the match Guinea Bissau-Mauritania will take place on Monday in Nouakchott.

In WAFU B, the derby of the zone was won by Ghana 2-0 at the expense of Nigeria. The following results were recorded in the other matches, Togo-Niger: 1-0 and Côte d’Ivoire-Burkina Faso: 0-0.

In UNIFFAC, DR Congo beat Chad 2-1 in Yaoundé, with CAR beating Congo on the same score 2-1. On the other hand, Equatorial Guinea beat Cameroon 1-0.

In East Africa, in addition to Sudan’s 4-1 win over Djibouti, there was Uganda’s 1-0 victory in Tanzania and a barren draw (0-0) between Ethiopia and Rwanda.

In the southern zone, Angola won South Africa 2-0, Malawi and Mozambique drew 1-1 and Madagascar collected a precious away win 1-0 in Botswana.

In the northern zone, which will host this edition of the CHAN in Algeria, Libya and the title holders Morocco have already obtained their slot following the withdrawal of Tunisia and Egypt.

On Friday, former club Fenerbahce confirmed Caulker’s release on mutual consent ahead of joining his fourth Turkish professional outfit.

Fatih Karagümrük managed by Italian legend Andrea Pirlo, they are currently 13th in the standing after their opening three league matches.

Mali defeat Sierra Leone to claim first-leg advantage

Sierra Leone’s CHAN Algeria 2023 Cup of Nations campaign is in peril after they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Mali at the SDK stadium in Liberia on Saturday.

Les Aigles (The Eagles) national B side scored in both halves of the game as they took a vital away victory into the second leg of the final round.

Thanks to Hamidou Sinayoko’s 23-minute opener and Ousmane Kamissoko’s 47th-minute goal as they took control of the qualifiers.

The visitors were fully aware of the task ahead as they were aggressive from the kickoff. Sierra Leone grabbed a chance of reaching the African TotalEnergies African Nations Championship after Musa Noah Kamara’s last-gasp goal in the 91st minute to make it 2-1 in the Liberian capital.

Coach Francis Zappa Koroma’s men must be on top of gear if they are to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit next Saturday in Bamako.

Stade du 26 Mars to host both nations in the return fixture on 3rd September and the aggregate winner will qualify for the African Nations Championship billed to hold in Algeria in January 2023.

Rangers to play Kallon in Inter-clubs preparations

Rangers to play Kallon in Inter-clubs preparations

As part of their Interclub preparations, Sierra Leone champions Bo Rangers will engage FC Kallon at the Eastern Province of Kenema District artificial turf on Sunday.

Both teams will represent Sierra Leone in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, respectively.

CAF Champions League debutant Bo Rangers won their last competitive tie convincingly 4-0 over Central Parade in May 2022. FC Kallon, on the other hand, suffered a 2-0 defeat to Old Edwardians in their last league action.

Bo Rangers reigned supreme over Kallon after three points and three goals were awarded to them following a goalless abandoned contest in March 2021. However, FC Kallon won the first leg of last season 3-0 at the Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown.

Kallon’s most recent result was a 1-all draw with home-based Leone Stars a few days ago. Sunday’s contest will see both teams themselves ahead of their continental doubleheader.

The Southern Province outfit is in full gear as they intensify their preparation ahead of their mouthwatering double header against a tough Algerian side CR Belouizdad.

Meanwhile, FC Kallon could give a debut to their six new acquisitions to the test against the reigning Sierra Leone Champions.

Kallon will face Benin Premier League side Buffles du Borgou in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary on the 11th of September in Cotonou before the second leg in Liberia on the 17th of September.
