Yayah Kallon signs for Hellas Verona on loan from Genoa

Serie A side Hellas Verona have confirmed the signing of midfielder Yayah Kallon on a season-long loan from Genoa.

The club announced that they acquired the services of the football player Yayah Kallon from Genoa CFC until summer 2023 on an expensive loan with the right of redemption and obligation upon the occurrence of certain conditions.

Kallon, 21, who made his Serie A debut in Genoa’s 1-0 win over Cagliari in May 2021, has been handed a new adventure in the Italian top flight.

The midfielder could make his debut for his new club when they face Atalanta on Sunday.

“His performances with the Ligurians earned him the call of Genoa, with whom he played the Primavera championship for three consecutive years, scoring 12 goals and 15 assists in 41 appearances,” the club said in a statement.

“In the same period, more and more space is made in the First Team, arriving to debut in Serie A on May 22, 2021. At the age of 19, in the match against Cagliari. In the 2021/22 season also comes the first goal among the professionals, signed in the Italian Cup against Perugia.”

“In the last season, Kallon gained further Serie A experience by collecting 15 overall appearances, enhanced by 2 assists.

Sierra Leone National B side and their Malian counterpart set for a thrilling first leg of the CHAN 2023 qualifiers on Saturday in the Liberian capital.

Runners-up of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2020, Mali will start their race to Algeria 2023 with an away trip against Sierra Leone.

Malian national B team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Morocco in the last CHAN final at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde in February 2021.

Coach Francis Zappa Koroma is fully aware of the task ahead as his side has been in intense preparation for the double cracker.

Sierra Leone looking to reach the tournament for the first time will go toe to toe with The Les Aigles (The Eagles) of Mali in their second-round first leg at the Samuel Kanyon Doe stadium in Liberia. Kick-off at 4 pm on Saturday, August 27.

Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako will host the second leg on Saturday, 3rd September.

A 33-man contingent led by Pastor Philip Buck, chairman of the Western Football Association (WAFA), has safely in Liberia ahead of the crucial first leg.

The aggregate winner will qualify for the African Nations Championship set for Algeria in January 2023.

Benin Premier League side Les Buffles du Borgou will play two more International friendlies ahead of taking Sierra Leone outfit FC Kallon in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary next month.

The Benin champions will take on Togolese Premier Champions ASKO de Kara in Kara on Thursday before facing Association Sportive Nationale de la Nigelec of Niger at the Omnisports Stadium in Parakou on Sunday.

Following the above test matches, Buffles du Borgou will commence their Interclub competition as host against their Sierra Leonean counterparts FC Kallon on 11th September in Cotonou before the second leg in Liberia on the 17th of September.

Meanwhile, FC Kallon a few days ago recruited six new acquisitions as the focus on their Interclub competition. 

The players are striker Alie Conteh (Nzozi), defender David Janneh (Odeh), midfielder Ibrahim Zaza Kamara (Paff), Kwame Ayeh Nketiah, Donald J Turay and striker Musa Bangura (Casablanca).

In the 2012 CAF Confederation Cup, FC Kallon eliminated Cameroon’s Union Sportive de Douala in the preliminary but faced stiff competition against Nigerian Warri Wolves. They won 2-0 on aggregate in the first round.

A total of 50 clubs will be vying for the top honours to unseat current champions RS Berkane. The Moroccan sports club RS Berkane are the current holders.

CAF interclub season to kick off on Friday, 9 September 2022

The excitement is building as the countdown continues to the start of the CAF 2022/23 interclubs competition season as the continent’s top clubs prepare for what is expected to be an exciting campaign.

The 2022/23 season will kick off on Friday, 09 September 2022 with the preliminary rounds of both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

In the TotalEnergies Champions League, 58 clubs will be hoping to dethrone African champions Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.

In the TotalEnergies Confederation Cup – a total of 50 clubs have been confirmed. They will be vying for the top honours to unseat current champions RS Berkane.

The first leg of the matches of the first preliminary round will be played on September 9-11, with the return matches scheduled to be played a week later.

Preliminary Rounds’ Dates:

First Round (Home/Away): 09 – 11 Sep / 16 – 18 Sep 2022

Second Round (Home/Away): 07 – 09 Oct / 14 – 16 Oct 2022

The Les Aigles (The Eagles) of Mali played to a goalless draw against Guinea’s Syli National at the Modibo Keita Sports Stadium on Monday.

Both nations used the International test match as preparation for their second-round final CHAN qualifying doubleheaders against Sierra Leone and Senegal.

It was Mali’s third International friendly ahead of taking on Sierra Leone in the final qualifying contest first leg in Liberia on Saturday.

Malian national B team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Mauritania on August 15 before a one-all draw on the 18 in Nouakchott at the Cheikha Ould Boïdiya Stadium, respectively.

Sierra Leone will engage their Malian counterparts in the second round’s first leg at the Samuel Kanyon Doe stadium in Liberia on August 27. Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako will host the second leg on Saturday, 3rd September.

Stade du 26 Mars serves as a home ground for domestic football club Stade Malien.

The aggregate winner will qualify for the African Nations Championship billed to hold in Algeria in January 2023.

Sierra Leone International Mohamed Kamara made his Horoya AC debut in a 2-1 win over Djoliba AC in the opener of the West Africa Champion’s Cup on Sunday.

The first edition of the West Africa Champions Cup started at the Yorokoguia sports complex with two Guinean clubs involved as Horoya AC defeated Djoliba AC of Mali. Soar Academy suffered a 2-1 defeat to Casa Sport of Senegal.

On the synthetic turf of Yorokoguiya, goals from Mohamed Djibo Wonkoye and Alseny Soumah were enough for the host team.

Kamara, 23, was named in the Guinean Champions’ starting eleven as they kickstart their four-team pre-season tournament.

The Sierra Leonean sensation of the 2021 African Cup of Nation joined Horoya Athletic Club on a two-year deal in May 2022.

Djoliba AC took the lead shortly before the break. The Malians scored from a good combination in the 42nd before Horoya AC, through Mohamed Djibo Wonkoye, levelled the scoreline in the 44th minute.

In the second half, Alseny Soumah scored the winner for the home side and despite the revolt of Djolba AC, the Matamkas remained calm for the rest of the game.

Mohamed Djibo Wonkoye was elected Man of the Match by the organizers.
