In-form MLS striker Kei Kamara and Cristian Techera scored as the Vancouver Whitecaps beat Portland Timbers’ 2-1 on Saturday evening at Providence Park.
The result ended the Timbers’ 15-match undefeated streak in a classic Cascadia thriller.
Kamara’s goal ties him with Jason Kreis for sixth all-time in MLS history with 108 regular season goals, while Techera’s tally came in his 100th MLS match, including playoffs.
The Whitecaps’ opener came in the 14th minute from a set piece. Kendall Waston delivering a precise pass to Kei Kamara, who headed past a hard-charging (into no man’s land) Jeff Attinella, and into an empty net.
.The header was the Sierra Leone international 10th MLS regular season goal of the season and 108th of his career.
Diego Valeri scored a 71st minutes penalty for the home side in Portland’s comeback effort, but his penalty kick miss in the first half proved costly for the Timbers.
After Wednesday’s cup finale, Whitecaps FC will be back home on Saturday, August 18 when they host New York Red Bulls at BC Place in MLS play.

Sierra Leone striker, Mohamed Buya Turay, scored on his debut for Belgian top-tier side Sint Truiden in it 1-1 home draw against Lokeren on Saturday.
Turay, 23, who started on the bench made immediate impact netting in the 84th minutes after coming on as a 61st-minute substitute to cancel out Guss Hurperts 78th minute opener for Lokeren at the Stayen Stadium.
The result was the third draw in a row for Turay’s new club, but a good way to announce his potential in the Belgian top flight after joining from Dalkurd on Wednesday.
The In-form attacker is expected to be part of the Sierra Leone squad for the matchday two of the African Cup of Nations Qualifier in Hawassa, Ethiopia slated for 9 September.

Danish club Boldklubben 1893 have signed Sierra Leonean defender Kemson Fofanah from East End Lions on a one and half year contract.

Fofanah, who was on trials with the third-tier side in Denmark, impressed the club’s management and hand himself a deal.
The right-back could feature in B93’s second League game of the season this Saturday pending clearance from the Danish Football Association.
A statement from East Lions FC reads: “We are very pleased to have completed the transfer of Kemson to B93 in collaboration with FC Lion Pride, Kempson’s management team Y2P and SLFA administrator Miss Miriam Heroe.”
“We as a club would like to thank all the individuals that made this transfer possible in the shortest possible time. This young man can now pursue his career and chase his dream.”

Sint-Truidense new striker Mohamed Buya Turay could make his home debut in today’s Jupiler Pro League contest against KSC Lokeren.
Manager Marc Brys’ has named the 23-year-old goal poacher in his 18-man squad for their third league match this season.
His assignment is clear scoring goals for his new side.
They are without a win from their opening two matches in the new campaign.
The Sierra Leone international scored nine goals in 13 appearances for the Swedish side Dalkurd before his move.
After meeting his new teammates at the club’s training ground he told journalists “Call me Buya, I prefer to hear that”.
“Buya is someone with a nose for goals. He fights for every ball, has speed, is firm and can make the action himself if he has to.

Moldovan Champions dropped to the Europa League after they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League following a goalless draw with Macedonian side Shkëndija in Moldova.

A roster of fifty players has started groundwork for the Under-17 Total Africa Cup of Nations zonal qualifying tournament in Dakar, Senegal.
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) says newly appointed Coach Tito Cole will be assisted by former International Francis Zappa Koroma and Jeffrey Kabia as goalkeeping coach.
Coach Cole’s lads are to face host Senegal and Guinea Bissau in Group A.
Sierra Leone first task is against Guinea Bissau on the 11th of September 2018 before the cracker with hosts Senegal two days later.
Meanwhile, the defending African champions Mali are in Group B alongside Liberia and Gambia.
Group C teams are Guinea, Mauritania and Cape Verde.
The tournament will be played from the 9-18 September 2018 at the Alassane Djigo Stadium in Pikine (Dakar) and the newly built Stade Ngalandou Diouf in Rufisque.
The winner of each group and best runner-up qualifying for the last four.
The finalists will represent the Zone at next year’s Total U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania.

Football’s world governing body, FIFA has banned former Zambian international and FA boss, Kalusha Bwalya for two years.
It follows a Fifa investigation into his links to banned Qatari official Mohammed Bin Hammam.
The FIFA adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee banned Kalusha, a member of the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), for two years after concluding its investigations.
“The investigation against Mr Bwalya was opened on 28 February 2017, and focused principally on benefits that Mr Bwalya had received from Mr Bin Hammam,” a statement from FIFA read.
The adjudicatory chamber found Mr Bwalya guilty of having violated art. 16 (Confidentiality) and art. 20 (Offering and accepting gifts and other benefits) of the FIFA Code of Ethics.
“A fine in the amount of 100,000 Swiss francs ($100,600, £78,900) was also imposed on Mr Bwalya,” the statement added.
The decision was notified to Mr Bwalya today, and the ban comes into force immediately.
