Sierra Leone has announced the suspension of all football and sporting activities in the country until further notice over fears of the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
As a result, the top-tier football league has been suspended with immediate effect.
This comes hours after the government announced several restrictive measures, including banning large gatherings of more than 100 people.
Big spenders Bo Rangers are top of the league table with 23 points from 13 matches played during the first half of the league.
The last time football and related activities halted was during the Ebola crisis of 2014. East End Lions, the present reigning defending champions, were leading the league during that season.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Confederation of African Football a few days ago suspended the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers over fears of the global pandemic.
Additionally, 14 African nations have now suspended domestic football and international games, including Egypt, DR Congo, Morocco, Kenya, Gabon, Sudan, Botswana, Ghana, Algeria, Tunisia, South Africa, Ethiopia, Guinea and Sudan.

GHANAIAN born Coach Sellas Tetteh has departed as the head coach of the Sierra Leone national team Leone Stars with immediate effect.
Tetteh’s replacement will be announced in the next few days. Assistant Coach John Keister is the most prominent named to replace the outgoing coach.
The former Rwanda coach last matches were against Lesotho and in the defeat to Benin in the African Cup of Nations opening two qualifiers.
Tetteh’s resignation is untimely as Sierra Leone face Nigeria in matchday 3 and 4 of the 2021 Afcon qualifying double-header against Nigeria on March 27 and 31.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are expected to host Sierra Leone in the Delta state capital before travelling a few days later to confront the Stars at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.
In his resignation letter, Tetteh said, “I have resigned as Leone stars coach because of personal reasons, which I cannot further state here.”
The Sierra Leone Football Association has confirmed the resignation of its former employee.
“SLFA wishes the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup Winning Coach great success in his future endeavours.”
Tetteh was first appointed as a caretaker coach in August 2015. The Ghanaian was in charge of Leone Stars when they were eliminated from the 2018 World Cup preliminary qualifiers by Chad.
The SLFA extended his stay before taking control of matches the in 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
He previously departed Sierra Leone after Leone Stars failed to reach the 2017 AFCON tournament in Gabon.
He was the architect of Ghana glory during the 2009 Under-20 World Cup which they won.

Ghanaian Sellas Tetteh returns as Sierra Leone coach

A thirty-five-yard superb free-kick from Momoh Conteh in the 57th min was enough as Diamond Stars beat visitors FC Kallon in the Sierra Leone Premier League.
Diamond Stars moved up to 8th place in the table as they ended last season runners up Kallon eleven-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory in Kono on Wednesday.
Caretaker coach, Aiah Lebbie aka Lobihno, who replaced former coach Francis Zappa Koroma, guided the side to their second win on home soil in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League.
“I was very confident that I was going to score when I took the shot,” Momoh Conteh told FSL News in Kono.
“We were better than FC Kallon, and we capitalized on their weakness.”
Speaking to FSL Coach Aiah Lebbie who replaced Francis Zappa Koroma said he was very confident of victory over FC Kallon.
“I have watched some of their matches to identify their stronghold, and weaknesses and I presented a team that will deliver the victory.”
“Our next match is against FC Johansen. We are going to start our preparations for that match tomorrow. “The team is still on a transition period,” he explained.
Elsewhere, struggling Central Parade registered their first win of the season after thrashing Anti-Drugs 3-0.Â
Ports Authority walloped FC Johansen 4-2 with Julius Goba becomes the first player to bookmarked the league’s hattrick.
Goba, who is at present the league’s top scorer was named Man of the Match by technical observers for his outstanding display against host Johansen.

Kenema Eastern Province of Sierra Leone state of the Art Artificial Turf Project has said to be ready in May this year.
The Sierra Leone Football Association, SLFA, in partnership with the world football governing body, FIFA, has on Friday launched the project witnessed by President Julius Maada Bio and his wife, the First Lady Fatima Bio.
The SLFA expects the Diamond Blade artificial turf to be completed by May.
Kenema City is a mini-stadium and is the home ground of Premier League side Kamboi Eagles football club.
“The FIFA-SLFA project is expected to last for three months, and upon completion, Kenema will boast of having one of the best artificial turfs (Diamond Blade) in West Africa,” The FA said in a statement.
“We can confirm that we have been in contact with Edel Grass the appointed Fifa producer, and the construction work will start in February 2020,” Fifa said in a statement earlier this month.
Eight days ago, the FA received two contractors from Edel Grass Company, Akonon Camile and Alex P Musa, who are the official Fifa preferred artificial grass producers.
Edel Grass is a worldwide operating, innovative, and leading company creating artificial grass solutions beyond our borders for sports and landscaping purposes.
The FA says they will be back in Kenema in the last week of May this year to officially hand over the State of Art Artificial Turf pitch to the people of Kenema.

FC Kallon registered their fifth win of the season with a goal apiece in each half as they moved top of the Sierra Leone Premier at least until after Lions face RSLAF.
The Cavaliers amassed 20 points after 2-0 win over Kamboi Eagles from 11 matches played in the first round.
Attacking player Sallieu Tarawallie opened the scoring for the host in the 12th minute through an Emmanuel Samadiya cross, that beat the Eagles defence.
The host could have double their score 15min later when Mahmoud Fofanah lined up a free kick in a dangerous position just on the edge of the area, but his attempt was rifled into the Eagles wall.
Kamboi Eagles responded immediately with an attack at the other end, but with time and space in the box, Ron Gandi Williams rushed his shot and deposited the ball into the stands.
FC Kallon finally doubled their advantage in the 64th minute through a counter-attack that saw Abu Kommeh heading in another Emmanuel Samadiya cross making it two assists of the night.
Kamboi Eagles tried to respond, but all efforts went off target which was frustrating for the visitors and their supporters.
In the 88th min, the Eagles came close to get consolation from a one on one position, again they were denied by goalkeeper Isaac Caulker.
“We came here with the mindset of winning, but football is funny we lost. Now, we have to get ourselves prepared for our next match. It has been difficult in our last few games, but we need to get back on track soonest,” Eagles Coach Foray he told FSL News.
Speaking to this medium, head coach Amidu Karim said, “The win was important on for us considering every game has been difficult so far this season.”
“In this league, you can’t class no team as an underdog they gave us a good test, but we were stronger than them that football.”
East End Lions the only top four sides that have played 10 games, will go three points clear with a win over the military boys RSLAF.

Last season unbeaten champions East End Lions defeated league leaders East End Tigers 1-0 at the Siaka Steven Stadium on Saturday evening to stop their winning streak under coach Victoria Conteh.
John Keister’s men squeezed in an important three-point with the only goal scored by Alimamy Bundu aka Azonto in the 64th minute of play.
The two straight victories for defending champions means they stand second on goal difference with a game in hand.
Tigers defeat was coach Victoria Conteh’s first in last four games following three straight victories beating Ports, Kamboi Eagles and Blackpool.
“It was an important win for us more like a workmanlike performance from the lads. Its was a strong match which we expected, but we were professional in our approach,” coach Keister told FSL news after the win.
He added, “We are trying to catch up on points following our slow start that why it was good to get another win.”
The Killers coming into Saturday’s game after an away win in Kono defeating Diamond Stars on last week Sunday.
In the day’s early kickoff, Diamond Stars were held to a 2-2 draw by host Kamboi Eagles at the Bo stadium.
Kamboi Eagles’s break the deadlock through Ibrahim Turay in the 32nd minutes. However, the visitor’s scored twice before Ron Gandi Williams rescued a point for his side.
Salif Kamara was named Man of the Match by the watching technical observers.Â
