Kallon’s GM warns players against complacency

Kallon’s GM warns players against complacency

In their quest to reach the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, FC Kallon General Manager Tunde Scott has warned players against complacency ahead of the second leg preliminary on Saturday in Liberia.

Kallon with the first leg advantage after an impressive away 1-0 win over Les Buffles du Burgos at the General Mathieu Kérékou Friendship Stadium in Cotonou, Benin, on Friday.

“We won the first leg 1-0, but we know Les Buffles de Borgou are coming here like Lions. So we have to be mindful of the threat they will pose against us,” Tunde Scott warned.

“They also have a young team, though they’re relatively more experienced players. You could see how that individual quality made the difference against us despite winning away.

“We’ve got to be focused, try to avoid complacency. On paper, perhaps, we look better than them, but Buffles have a lot of talented individuals – though fortunately for us, they lost their home tie against us.”

He, however, called on Sierra Leoneans to rally behind the team. We are in this competition to represent Sierra Leone because when we won, Sierra Leoneans were happy, so let them support these players and the management,” he appealed.

Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Liberia to host the return fixtures on the 17th. The aggregate winner will face the winner between Uganda’s BUL FC and Future FC of Egypt in the next stage.

Bo Rangers share CAF CL spoils with CR Belouizdad

Bo Rangers share CAF CL spoils with CR Belouizdad

Bo Rangers and CR Belouizdad began their CAF Champions League campaign with a share of the spoils following a goalless draw in the Liberian Capital.

The Sierra Leone Champions put up a good fight as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Algerian Champions CR Belouizdad in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round clash at the SKD Stadium in Liberia on Saturday.

The West African side gave a good account of themselves as they made their debut in the competition against a tough North African competitor.

Despite missing two key players, the likes of Amadu Mansaray and Abu Bakarr Samura, the host came close to scoring when Suffian Kalokoh hit the target but was denied by the post.

The result was a respectable scoreline against a team that was in the quarter-final in the last competition.

The goalless draw will boost Ranger’s confidence ahead of the return leg on Saturday, 17th September, at the Stade du 8-Mai-1945, Setif, Algeria.

The aggregate winner of CR Belouizdad and Rangers over two legs will face the winner between Deportivo Mongomo Equatorial Guinean football club and Djoliba Athletic Club Malian football in the second round in October.

Meanwhile, Bo Rangers have confirmed that they arrived safely in Bo from Monrovia, Liberia, on Sunday. The team will depart for Conakry, Guinea, en route to Algeria ahead of the reverse fixture.

The Algerians also arrived at 3:40 on Sunday in Algiers from Liberia after playing the CAF Champions League first preliminary round match against Sierra Leonean Bo Rangers.

Algeria 2022 Nations Championship qualifying first-leg wrap-up

Algeria 2022 Nations Championship qualifying first-leg wrap-up

With a 4-1 victory over Djibouti in the first leg of the last qualifying round of the 2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held in Algeria, Sudan have taken a serious option in the race for qualification.

At the end of the first leg scheduled from 26 to 28 August, Sudan are really the only team that have given themselves the means to make a quiet return match after a big away win (4-1).

However, Mali and DR Congo, who won on the same score of 2-1, have also made big steps towards the qualification to the 2022 TotalEnergies CHAN.

In the other matches, the many narrow scores noted allow explosive second leg matches.

In WAFU A, Senegal beat Guinea 1-0, while the match Guinea Bissau-Mauritania will take place on Monday in Nouakchott.

In WAFU B, the derby of the zone was won by Ghana 2-0 at the expense of Nigeria. The following results were recorded in the other matches, Togo-Niger: 1-0 and Côte d’Ivoire-Burkina Faso: 0-0.

In UNIFFAC, DR Congo beat Chad 2-1 in Yaoundé, with CAR beating Congo on the same score 2-1. On the other hand, Equatorial Guinea beat Cameroon 1-0.

In East Africa, in addition to Sudan’s 4-1 win over Djibouti, there was Uganda’s 1-0 victory in Tanzania and a barren draw (0-0) between Ethiopia and Rwanda.

In the southern zone, Angola won South Africa 2-0, Malawi and Mozambique drew 1-1 and Madagascar collected a precious away win 1-0 in Botswana.

In the northern zone, which will host this edition of the CHAN in Algeria, Libya and the title holders Morocco have already obtained their slot following the withdrawal of Tunisia and Egypt.
