Sudan to play Kenya ahead of Leone Stars trip

Sudan will be away to Kenya in a friendly match scheduled for Nairobi on May 27 at the Moi International Sports centre Kasarani in preparation for their Afcon 2017 qualifier against Sierra Leone a week later.

The Falcons of Jediane will use the test match as preparations ahead of their decisive AFCON qualifying match slated for the Siaka Steven Stadium Freetown on Saturday 4, June 2016.

Mazda’s men are desperate to pick maximum points and do the double against a Sierra Leone side that will be playing at home looking to strengthen their grip and get their Gabon 2017 campaign back on track.

The Harambee Stars of Kenya who will face Congo Brazzaville on June 5 in Group E will also use this tie to prepare for the crunch qualifier.

Sudan-UK based soccer pundit Abdul Musa reiterated that Mazda’s side will be coming to defeat Sierra Leone, although he acknowledged the difficult task ahead.

“It’s going to be tough away game, and that is why the squad is going to have a good test against the Harambee Stars.

Musa explained: “Sudan will travel to Kenya, to play a friendly vs the Kenyan National Team in preparation for the qualifier vs Sierra Leone on the 4th June.

“The 22-man squad started training yesterday under Coach Mohamed Abdullah Mazda who has said Sudan has no option but to win in Freetown”.

“Key defensive midfielder Nasr El Din El Shigel and first choice left back Abdullatef Boya all absent from the squad that will be coming to Freetown,” Musa told footballsieraleone.net

Sudan are in Group I of the qualifiers alongside Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, and Gabon who are automatic qualifiers as host of the in the 31st edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men’s football championship of Africa organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Fifa puts Sierra Leone under microscope

Fifa puts Sierra Leone under microscope

Despite all the challenges at the world football governing body (FIFA) own doorstep in Zurich, the infighting in the sport in Sierra Leone has not gone without notice by Fifa.

FIFA has exclusively told this medium that they are “monitoring the situation concerning the SLFA” when answering a request by this website following last weekend’s controversial twist in the impasse.

The global football governing has Sierra Leone very close within its sights after the SLFA banned a seven-man committee set up to regularise the status of voting delegates for a congress – which rivals say was long overdue.

Fifa did not give any further information, but it is clear they are investigating the matter and will issue fresh directives to address the situation.

FIFA’s head of Member Associations Primo Carvaro and Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi had visited Sierra Leone when a committee was set up at State House by President Ernest Koroma. The task was to find a solution to the lasting infighting between the Isha Johansen led executive and some of its members but was unproductive.

Their visit came after the SLFA Congress was postponed in April after a row over the eligibility of some of the delegates who were expected to attend.

In December 2014, rival members who are seeking to overturn Johansen’s presidency saw their effort slammed by Fifa, who refused to recognise them.
