Gabon’s Aubameyang ends Bundesliga season as top scorer

Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck a late penalty for Borussia Dortmund on the final day of the season to finish as the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 31 goals.

Aubameyang scored twice to help Dortmund beat Werder Bremen 4-3 – his first coming three minutes before the break and his second from the spot in the 89th minute.

It put the 27-year-old one goal ahead of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski who failed to score in the German champions’ 4-1 win over Freiburg.

Aubameyang becomes only the second African player to win the golden boot in Germany after Ghana’s Tony Yeboah achieved the feat twice whilst playing for Eintracht Frankfurt – in the 1992-93 season and the following year in 1993-94.

Borussia Dortmund’s victory over Werder Bremen gave them a third place finish in the Bundesliga and secured their automatic spot in the Champions League group stage.

Sierra Leone International Abdul ‘Buduski’ Sesay scored a brace as JS Hercules beat JJk Villiketut in a ten-goal thriller in the Finish third-tier group C match on Saturday.

Sesay regiesterd his first two goals for his new club in 26th and 47th minutes respectively to help Hercules to a 6-4 victory.

In a dramatic game, Genc Kovaqi put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute before Sesay level things up for the home team with a fine finish beating the visiting keeper and Sami Karjalainen gave Hercules a 2-1 lead before the break.

Soon after the restart, Sesay was again on target with his second goal to put his side 3-1 up.

However, the visitors made it 3-2, Genc Kovaqi doubles his tally – eight minutes later Hercules’s Sami Karjalainen incredibly restored his side two-goal advantage in 68th. (4-2).

Two more goals from Mikko Suomela saw Hercules completed a 6-4 victory, with Högbacka Niko and Genc Kovaqi on hattrick replying for the visiting team with their third and fourth.

The victory was Hercules first victory in this campaign after their opening two draws and a defeat.

 Alhassan ‘Crespo’ Kamara scored again for BK Häcken in the Swedish top-tier league making his 9th Allsvenskan appearance in their 2-1 victory over Halmstads BK on Wednesday.

He has now scored 10 goals for BK Häcken in all competition, 5 in the league playing 153 minutes putting him level with Djurgårdens IF’s Magnus Eriksson, Gustav Engvall in the opening 2017 league campaign.

Goals from the Leone Stars forward Kamara in the 42nd minutes and Rasmus Lindgren 56th respectively made the win a comfortable one for Häcken in front of their fans, with Fredrik Olsson getting one back for the visitors by cancelling Kamara’s opener.

The victory takes the Gothenburg-based club to third in the Swedish Allsvenskan standings.

Kamara’s next Allsvenskan action will see him go against fellow Sierra Leone sensational in the Swedish top-flight Mohamed Buya Turay’s outfit AFC Eskilstuna May 21.

Sierra Leone to unveil new head coach John Keister

Former Sierra Leone international, John Keister, will face the press for the first time as the new head coach of Leone Stars replacing Ghanaian Sellas Tetteh.

Keister, 46, will be officially unveiled by the Ministry of Sports and the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) eight months after Leone Stars narrowly eliminated by Ivory Coast in Bouake for a place in Gabon 2017.

Football Sierra Leone understands that the former Chester City and Shrewsbury Town midfielder will work with an all-local and former Sierra Leone internationals as technical staffs.

Margate FC former player/assistant manager will start his first spell as Leone Stars head coach with a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Harambee Stars in Freetown on 10 June.

Former Sierra Leone skippers Abu Bakarr Tostao Kamara and John Sama both captain the National team in the 1994 and 1996 Nations Cup in Tunisia and South Africa respectively are expected to be assisting Keister.

Although he was born in Manchester England, Keister started his career at Tigres in 1992 before moving to England in 1993.

Keister, capped 2 times for Sierra Leone has played for Walsall, Chester City, Shrewsbury Town, Stevenage Borough, Margate and Dover Athletic where he was captain before returning to previous club Margate on a free transfer in September 2009.

He played in two World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Morocco for Sierra Leone. Making him the first player from the club to receive international recognition whilst playing for them

Keister was player/assistant manager at the club but left in February 2011, and prior to this appointment has been the head coach of FC Johansen.

He guided FC Johansen to lift the 2016 Sierra Leone FA Cup. The club’s first major domestic trophy and was the assistant to Sellas Tetteh during the qualifiers for 2017 Nations Cup.

Ghanaian Christian Atsu agrees to join Newcastle on a permanent deal

Newly promoted Premier League side Newcastle are closing in on their first signing Ghanaian international Christian Atsu from Champions Chelsea.

Football Sierra Leone understands that the two clubs have reached agreement on a deal which would cost the Magpies in the region of £6.5.

However, it is understood that there is still a distance to go before the transfer is completed.

Atsu, 25, who joined Chelsea in September 2013 from Porto during the summer on a five-year deal made 32 league appearances and scored five goals for Newcastle this season.

He won his first senior cap for Ghana on 1 June 2012 against Lesotho, scoring in the process.

The attacking midfielder was once described by the BBC as an “excellent prospect”.

Atsu, capped 42 times by Ghana, has spent time on loan at Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga.
