- Syli National of Guinea has been excellent throughout this year’s African Nations Championship in Cameroon but will face a strong test against Mali on Wednesday.
- Morlaye Sylla scored the only goal against Rwanda as the Guineans booked a semi-final date with their francophone – the contest will be played at the Japoma Stadium in Douala.
The competition is exclusively for home-based players trading in their various leagues.
The winner will face either host Cameroon, or holders Morocco, who keeps their title defence alive.
Morocco beat Zambia 3-1 on Sunday for a semi-final place while the hosts team Cameroon down DR Congo 2-1.
Earlier on Saturday, Mali won 5-4 on penalties as the first team to reach the tournament semi-finals against Congo after a goalless 90 minutes draw.
The final will be played in Yaounde on February 7th.

- Azerbaijan Premier League side, Sabail have confirmed the signing of defender Alie Sesay until the end of the season.
- The club confirmed the news on their Facebook page.
“We signed a contract with defender Alie Sesay until the end of the season! Welcome to Sabail.”
Sesay, 26, who joined Zira in January 2020 and played in nine games for the Eagles will be hoping to impress his new boss.
The club presently stands sixth in the Azerbaijan Premier League log, and Alie will be in line to make his debut when they take on Sumgayit at the Capital Bank Arena on February 13.
He has been capped eight times with Sierra Leone since his debut in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Cameroon on 11 October 2014.

Danish top-tier side Randers have turned down an offer from AaB Aalborg for striker Alhaji Kamara.
Ekstra Bladet reported that Randers rejected AaB’s bid of around five million kroner for their Sierra Leonean poacher.
26-year-old Alhaji Kamara has a contract until 2022 with Randers, where he has scored six goals in 13 Danish Superliga matches this season.
Furthermore, they also refused to let Tom van Weert or Magnus Christensen be included as part of the payment for Kamara.
The second phase of the season will Kick-off 2 February with Randers taking on Horsens at their Cepheus Part stadium.
The East Jutland-based side currently in fourth and they will be hoping to continue pushing to go further up the table.

- Sierra Leone will no longer host the much-awaited Zone-A U-17 men’s youth tournament due to COVID-19, the local federation (SLFA) confirmed on Friday
- The men’s youth tournament which will serve as the regional qualifiers for the 2021 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, will be hosted in Senegal from 5th-13th February 2021
The West African Football Union (WAFU) earlier granted the tournament’s hosting rights to Sierra Leone and the tournament was previously scheduled to commence in December last year but was rescheduled for the second time to a later date, due to the outbreak of Coronavirus in Sierra Leone and logistical constraints faced by WAFU.
The SLFA says: they regret to announce to the general public that despite all efforts with all reasonable means possible, the COVID-19 situation has made it virtually impossible to host the proposed WAFU U-17 AFCON Qualifiers in Sierra Leone, bearing in mind that the country is currently under a 10 pm-5 am curfew and a national lockdown to and from the country’s capital, Freetown.
Host Senegal, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea are tipped to compete in this year’s tourney.

- Madagascar’s Ahmad has been dramatically restored as Confederation of African Football (Caf) president following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas), BBC Sports reports
- Ahmad was banned by Fifa in November for five years after football’s world governing body found him to have breached several of its ethics codes
The Malagasy – who will now resume his role as a Fifa vice-president – appealed his decision at Cas, which issued a preliminary ruling on Friday.
Ahmad is still ineligible to contest Caf’s presidential elections in March however since the Cas decision came after both the Caf’s Governance Committee and Fifa’s Review Committee met earlier this week to discuss the eligibility of candidates.
Cas says it will hear Ahmad’s appeal in full on 2 March, with a decision issued before the Caf presidential elections on 12 March.
“Due to a risk of irreparable harm for Mr Ahmad, if the disciplinary sanction is maintained during the period prior to the Caf elections, the Cas panel has upheld the request to temporarily stay the effects of the [Fifa ban],” Cas, sport’s highest legal body, said in a statement.
This effective suspension of the Fifa ruling will be in place ‘until the day that the final Cas award is issued’.Since he was banned when Fifa met on Tuesday and Caf on Thursday to vet presidential aspirants, Ahmad was deemed ineligible to run.
He will now need to overturn the decisions ruling him ineligible to run since his appeal at Cas was not against the decision barring him from contesting the elections but against his Fifa ban.
Should Cas find against him when its hearing takes place in early March, Ahmad – who proclaimed the backing of over 46 federations, out of 54, shortly before his ban – will be ruled out of the race once and for all.
As of this week, four candidates were cleared to run for the Caf elections on 12 March: Jacques Anouma (Ivory Coast), Patrice Motsepe (South Africa), Augustin Senghor (Senegal), Ahmed Yahya (Mauritania).
