CAF CL: Bo Rangers eliminated after defeat in Algeria

Debutants Bo Rangers are out of this year’s CAF Champions League after they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Stade du 8-Mai-1945 in their second-leg preliminary in Algeria on Saturday.

Both teams played to a goalless draw in the first lg in Liberia’s SDK stadium a week ago in Monrovia.

A brace from Karim Aribi in the 86th and 90th minutes completed the home side’s victory after Mouad Hadda had opened the scoring in the 34th-minute first half.

Bo Rangers were without defender Abu Bakarr Samura aka Lucio, due to injury.

In the Second Round, CR Belouizdad will face the winner between Deportivo Mongomo Equatorial Guinean football club and Djoliba Athletic Club Malian football in October.

Deportivo Mongomo Equatorial Guinean won the first leg 2-0 a week ago. They will play the reverse fixture today in Mali.

Clubs that received bye to Second Preliminary Round

Kallon FC progress into CAF Confed Cup second round (Agg 4-0)

CAF Confed Cup: FC Kallon 3-0 Les Buffles (4-0 agg) – Kallon progress to the second round

Sierra Leone CAF Confederation Cup representative FC Kallon were good value for their win with a free-flowing display as striker Alie Conteh scored a hat-trick at the SDK stadium in Liberia on Saturday.

Having secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup first-leg preliminary over Les Buffles du Borgou at the Stade de l’Amitie in Cotonou, Benin, on Friday, Kallon completed the job with three more goals.

FC Kallon, under the supervision of ex-Sierra Leone international Mohamed Kallon, are through to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 3-0 win over Les Buffles du Borgou on Saturday.

After wasting several glorious chances in the opening 30th-minute, mainly from Kwame Nketiah, but managed to nick the tie from a goal from Mahmoud Fofanah in the 42ndh minute at the SDK Stadium in Liberia.

Mahmoud Fofanah cleverly danced passed his marker and tried to go solo, but his effort was headed in by striker Alie Conteh in the 64th minute into the top roof of the net.

The visitors, however, late into the first half, rallied for a goal of their own but couldn’t break down a resilient Kallon defence. They went into the break 1-0 goal down.

After the restart, the home side maintained good possession of the ball and took the play to their counterpart.

As a result, striker Alie Conteh completed his hat-trick in quick succession in the 65th and 67th minutes, respectively, as they won 4-0 on aggregate and will wait to know who they face in the second round – between BIDCO Uganda Limited Jinja and Future FC of Egypt.

Bo Rangers coach Foray hopeful over Belouizdad decider

Bo Rangers coach Foray hopeful over Belouizdad decider

Debutants Bo Rangers will be hoping to build from their first-leg draw and stun their host at the Stade du 8-Mai-1945 in Algeria in their CAF Champions League second-leg preliminary on Saturday.

A win for Sierra Leone champions will see them progress to the next stage of this year’s CAF Champions League.

Bo Rangers will be without defender Abu Bakarr Samura aka Lucio, due to injury. Head coach Alhaji Foray will welcome Abu Bakarr Bangura, fondly called ‘Nasri’, back into the squad, having missed two training sessions due to illness.

Coach Alhaji Foray insists he is not feeling any extra pressure ahead of their decider taking on the Algerian Champions CR Belouizbad at the Setif stadium.

When asked whether he is feeling the heat ahead of Saturday’s clash, he said, “Not at all. The lads are here to get the business done. I’m looking forward to being involved and showing what we are capable of, as our expectations are high. The lads are mentally and physically prepared,” he affirms.

Both teams will meet for the second time following their goalless draw in the first leg. Asked whether the Rangers are the favourite to win, Foray added: “No. That would be disrespectful to the host, but I am optimistic that we will prevail.

On Abu Bakarr Samura’s absence

“Samura is a vital player, no coach will be happy to miss any of his key players, but it is what it is. I have 24 players at my disposal. So, those who are mentally and physically ready will play.

He, however, called on Sierra Leoneans to rally behind the team.

The aggregate winner of CR Belouizdad and Rangers over two legs will face the winner between Deportivo Mongomo Equatorial Guinean football club and Djoliba Athletic Club Malian football in the second round in October.

Meanwhile, the Algerian side has won three of their last four matches this season, including the draw against their CAF Champions League draw with Bo Rangers last Saturday.

Indy attacker Rodney Michael reacts to first Sierra Leone call-up

Indy Eleven attacker Rodney Michael admitted it is a privilege and an honour to have received his first international call-up.

The 23-year-old was on Tuesday selected in John Keister’s Sierra Leone 25-man squad for the forthcoming FIFA International fixtures against South Africa and DR Congo.

“Extremely delighted with my first Sierra Leone call-up. I know it is a big opportunity for me, just like all other young players that have been fortunate enough to get this opportunity early in their careers,” Michael told FootballSierraLeone.

“I remembered when I was around seven years old going to watch National team games at the Siaka Stevens Stadium and just being amazed at the atmosphere, the fans, the support, and the passion all the players gave everything for the Nation. I always left those games thinking to myself that ‘I will be there one day.’ That dream and belief were what motivated me to take football seriously.

He continues, “The Craig Bellamy Foundation played a huge role in shaping me into the person I am today as they not only helped improve my footballing abilities but also made me realize how important education is. The combination of football and education has opened countless doors throughout my journey from Sierra Leone to the United States.

Ultimately, those doors have led me to be in a position where I’m fortunate enough to have gotten my first Senior National team call-up.

Back in 2018, it was a special moment in my life to represent the U20 National team. And now, four years later, it is even more special for me to get the chance to represent the Senior National team.”

In March this year, Indy Eleven announced it had acquired forward Rodney Michael from USL League One club South Georgia Tormenta FC.
