Former Super Eagles, Udinese star Obodo escapes death

Former Super Eagles Midfielder Christian Obodo survived a ghastly auto accident along Ozoro road in Delta State, over the weekend.

According to sources close to the former Udinese of Italy playmaker, the accident took place along Ozoro road in Delta State, Nigeria.

Obodo is regarded by many as one of the most skilful and talented midfielders to play for Nigeria since the 1994 era.

In 2012, the former Udinese man was reportedly kidnapped by gunmen near Warri, Delta State. He was rescued the next day in nearby Isoko by men of the Nigerian police force.

He made six appearances out of 10 in the 2006 World Cup qualification series, scoring a goal. At the 2006 African Cup of Nations, he featured in 4 of Nigeria’s six games, scoring in the 2–0 win over Zimbabwe.

Obodo last played for the Super Eagles in 2008.

CAF CL: Zamalek, Raja, Esperance & Wydad advance 

Egyptian side Zamalek advanced to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals after Zesco United’s draw against Primeiro de Agosto.

Zesco’s 1-1 final scoreline against Primeiro de Agosto on Saturday end their hopes of qualification for the knockout stages.

As a result, Zamalek into the quarter-finals second with eight points behind TP Mazembe in Group A of the CAF Champions League.

Elsewhere, Esperance and Raja ended in a 2-2 draw at the Olympic Stadium in Rades, where the Tunisian hosts and reigning African kings needed a late equaliser from Fed Ben Choug to ensure they remained unbeaten.

Both sides first, and second respectively from Group D. 

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns’ a late equaliser secure a 2-2 draw away to Petro de Luanda in a CAF Champions League Group C match at Estadio 11 de Novembro on Saturday afternoon.

The South African side leading their group with 11 points already secured quarterfinal qualification earlier in the month, will face Wydad Athletic Club in their final match.

Wydad Athletic Club thrashed USM Alger 3-1 to advanced on Friday.

Nigerian Victor Moses delighted after joining Inter Milan

Chelsea winger, Victor Moses is delighted after completed a loan move to Italian giant Inter Milan.

The Italian side announced the signing of former Super Eagles forward from Chelsea on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy. 

“Victor Moses is officially an Inter player. Moses will wear the 11 Jersey,” the Italian giants confirmed.

“It’s an honour for me to be here and be an Inter player. I’d like to thank everyone for the welcome I’ve been given, I can’t wait to start,” Moses told Inter TV. 

Moses, 29, joined a list of Nigerian players to have featured for the Nerazzurri. The likes of legend Nwankwo Kanu, Taribo West, Obafemi Martins and Obinna Nsofor all having donned the famous black and blue. 

Moses won the Premier League in 2016-2017 and the FA Cup under Antonio Conte, who is now the Inter manager.

Ivorian footballer Ismaila Soro completes Celtic medical

Midfielder Ismaila Soro has completed medical ahead of his proposed move to Scottish Premiership side Celtic.

“Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce that midfielder Ismaila Soro has completed a medical ahead of his proposed transfer to the club,” the club said in a statement.

The Scottish top-flight side confirmed that they have agreed on terms with Israeli club, Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv also agreed on a four-and-a-half-year contract with the player.

The 21-year-old is expected to joining his new teams subject to work permit and international clearance.

Race to Qatar 2022 World Cup draw completed in Cairo

The Draw for the Group Phase of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 took place on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, with 40 African countries discovering their fates for the Second Round of the qualifying campaign.

Former France Captain, Marcel Desailly, Coach of Côte d’Ivoire’s Women’s national football team Clementine Toure, assisted CAF Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu, to conduct the draw.

The teams representing 40 countries across the CAF region were divided into ten groups of four teams each for the penultimate stage of the continental journey to Qatar.

Upon completion of the home and away matches, the winners of the ten groups will qualify to the final phase of the continental qualification on the journey to Qatar.

The Final Round will see the ten teams drawn into five home and away ties, with the five winners securing the ticket to represent Africa at the tournament scheduled for 21 November to 18 December 2022 in Qatar.

Sierra Leone U-20 women’s suffer narrow defeat to Senegal

Sierra Leone U-20 women’s national team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Senegal in the preliminary round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Senegal scored through Fatou Bintu Toure in the 55th minute at the Bo City Multi-purpose stadium Southern Province in Sierra Leone.

Many soccer pundits described the young Sierra Queens performance as brave and exciting.

The team will travel to Senegal on the 28th January 2020 in a bid to overturn the defeat and the winner over two legs will progress to face the winner between Uganda and Tanzania in the next round.

Elsewhere in the qualifier, Guinea Bissau thrashed Mauritania 6-0 in ‎Nouakchott‎ city.

Ethiopia walloped fellow CECAFA member Burundi 5-0 at the Prince Rwagasore Stadium in Bujumbura.

Burkina Faso edged visiting Gambia 3-2 in Ouagadougou while Zambia fell 2-0 to visiting South Africa in Lusaka.

The 2020 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup to be jointly hosted in Costa Rica, Panama.
