Cameroon International Nicolas Nkoulou excited about move to Lyon

The Cameroon international was unveiled at a news conference on Wednesday where he said he is looking forward to getting going at his new club.

The 26-year-old signed a four-year deal with French Ligue 1 side Lyon after his contract with Lyon’s French rivals Marseille came to an end at the end of the season.

He passed a medical examination Monday evening and joins the club on a contract until June 2020.

Nkoulou vehemently admitted that he has also held discussions with Italian Serie A side Roma.

“I spent five good years at OM, I was out of contract and it was time to turn the page.”

“I come with a lot of ambition and pride. I’m here because Lyon will allow me to grow and move forward

“Five years ago I chose Marseille rather than Lyon because of [the then coach] Didier Deschamps – but now destiny wants our paths to cross again and that’s important.

“I need to feel loved and wanted and that’s the case here in Lyon.”

Last season, Nkoulou made 38 appearances for Marseille en route to a less-than-satisfactory 13th-place finish in the 2015-16 Ligue 1 season.

New England Revolution striker and 2015 MLS WORKS Humanitarian award winner, Kei Ansu Kamara has been nominated for the American Broadcast Television network (ABC), Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award (ESPY).

The other three nominees for Best MLS Player are – Montreal Impact defender and 2015 MLS Defender of the Year Laurent Ciman, New York Red Bulls goalkeeper and 2015 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Luis Robles and Toronto FC attacker and 2015 Landon Donovan MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco,

ESPN confirmed the list of nominees for the 2016 ESPYs on Thursday, and four MLS players and US women’s national team star Carli Lloyd are all up for awards.

The Sierra Leonean once again will contest against Toronto and Italian striker Sebastian Giovinco.

Giovinco, 29, defeated Kamara to win the 2015 MLS soccer Golden Boot award.

Last season he was tied with Kamara on 22 goals but having double the assists — a league-high 16 — breaking the league record for combined goals and assists.

Fans must vote as the winners will be determined by fan voting, with fans able to cast their vote online at ESPYS.com up until the start of the award show.

The 2016 ESPYs will be hosted by WWE Legend John Cena and broadcast live on ABC at 8 pm ET on Wednesday, July 13.

Sierra Leone defender Sheriff Suma has announced his retirement from international football.

Suma, 29, who won over 30 caps for Sierra Leone, said he wants to concentrate on his club career and making way for the younger prospects.

“After carefully considering my situation, I have officially decided that it is right to give a chance to the younger players.

“And I think the time is right to retire from international football.

“I thank God for bringing me this far,” he told footballsierraleone.net

Suma was heavily involved in the Sierra Leone squad during the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in which the country struggled to win a single game.

His last game for Sierra Leone was in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Chad in Nigeria Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium (Port Harcourt) – Sierra Leone won 2-1 but was eliminated from the preliminaries 13 October 2015.

He was the captain in DRC Congo and Ivory Coast during the AFCON 2015 qualifiers, in both matches the country was heavily defeated 3-1 and 5-1 respectively.

Sheriff Suma was born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone hailing from Guinean parents.

He started his professional career with Åtvidabergs FF in 2005 where he made 49 appearances scoring seven goals.

In 2001, Suma, who was widely considered as one of the best Sierra Leonean youth footballers while in the Gambia he went on to amass over 170 career appearances playing for 10 foreign clubs.

In 2003, he was omitted from the Sierra Leone final squad for the 2003 African U-17 Championship in Swaziland, something he describes as the worst moment of his life.

In the championship, Sierra Leone placed second, behind Cameroon, thereby qualifying for the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland.

He was fortunate and was called back to the squad for the tenth edition of the U-17 world championship in Finland.

The agile wing-back joined Syrianska with fellow Sierra Leone International Samuel Barlay in December June 2014 signing a new one-year contract.

Suma’s proposed move to Kvik Halden FK fell through and a few days later in the same month, re-signed for Azerbaijan Premier League side Ravan Baku FK.

He is presently in the United States where he is considering ending his playing career.

Champions League prospects ‘excite’ FC Sheriff’s Khalifa Jabbie

Sierra Leone midfielder Khalifa Jabbie pictured in FC Sheriff’s colours is “optimistic and excited” about the prospect of Champions League football following the second round qualifying opening draws of the 2016/17 campaign.

Jabbie’s FC Sherrif will start their campaign in the second qualifying round away to Hapoel Beer Sheva FC from Beer Sheva, Israel.

First leg match takes place on July 12/13 in Beer Sheva, second leg match is organised in Tiraspol on July 18/19.

The midfielder said: “I’m looking forward to making my Champions league debut and I’m excited – The matches against Beer Sheva will bring me a very good experience – I know we can play well if we prepare well for these two legs ties.”
“My teammates are also optimistic and excited about going to Israel next month, we hope to achieve the ultimate goal and get into the group stages.

“We played 1-1 in our first preseason game against FC Zimbru at home and our next preseason match is against Russian side Tom Tomsk at home again on the 2nd July 2016,” Jabbie, 23 told footballsierraleone.net

FC Sheriff won the 2015-16 Moldovan Divizia National title following a 1-0 victory away to Dacia Chisinau as they secured their spot in Europe’s elite club competition.

Since 2001, the club they have won the title thirteen times out of fifteen.

The 6 ft 2 inch who was a one-time captain of the Sierra Leone Under-20 national known as the Shooting Stars has won two major European titles since 2009.

MLS Soccer: DC United prevail in battle of Kamaras

Kei Kamara’s New England Revolution was humbled by Alhaji Kamara’s DC United as both countrymen were facing each other for the first time in their career at club level.

American soccer player Lamar Neagle scored a goal and an assist to give the host an early lead that stood up in a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night at the RFK Stadium (Washington D.C.)

The former IFK Norrköping striker Alhaji Kamara of DC United on the right, pictured. Kei Kamara was introduced in 82nd minutes, replacing Álvaro Alberto.

Sean Franklin scored the second goal, his first of the season, when he knocked in Neagle’s cross.

The victory sees the host leapfrogged their visitors into fifth in the Eastern Conference table.

Kei Kamara, 31, is still searching for his first goal in five games since joining New England Revolution in May this year from Columbus Crew.
