The Leone Stars of Sierra Leone have jumped seven places in today’s FIFA world rankings from 83rd to 76th.
Despite they were eliminated in last month’s CHAN preliminary qualifiers in Dakar against Senegal 4-2 on aggregate, the Leone Stars impressively moved up as the 76th best for the month of August.
Amassing 448 points, they are also the 16th best team on the continent.
Sierra Leone next international outing is against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations to be played in Ghana next month.
Meanwhile, Brazil have returned to the top of the FIFA global rankings in today’s update for August, moving ahead of Confederations Cup winners Germany despite neither nation actually playing any games since the July rankings were released a month ago.
World Champions Germany down to second place with Argentina, Switzerland and Poland making up the top five.
European champions Portugal, Chile, Colombia, Belgium and France making up the top 10.

Sheffield United came back from a goal down to beat Walsall 3-2 on Wednesday evening at Bramall lane.
Walsall’s striker Amadou Bakayoko’s opener was his fourth goal in four matches against the Blades.
The Sierra Leone-born scored the match first goal for Walsall in the 13th-minute – when Oztumer beat the offside trap and squared for Bakayoko to side-foot home from six yards out. Ched Evans’ 52nd-minute introduction.
Ched Evans, who was introduced in the 52nd-minute set up two goals on his second Sheffield United debut as they fought back from 1-0 down to beat Walsall in the EFL Cup first round.
First, his 74th-minute shot was deflected into his own net by Kory Roberts, and then he crossed for Nathan Thomas to score before Daniel Lafferty added a third.
Erhun Oztumer made it 3-2 with an injury-time penalty.
Meanwhile, Walsall lost their opening League One encounter away to Bury last Saturday.
Bury missed two penalties but still opened their Sky Bet League One campaign with a 1-0 victory over Walsall.

Sierra Leone have named a 24-man provisional squad nationwide for training ahead of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations to be played in Ghana next month.
The national home-based coach, Abu Bakarr Tostao Kamara will be hoping his side fare well against Nigeria, winners of the tournament in 2010 and runners-up in 2011.
The Local Stars will battle it out with Super Eagles of Nigeria on the 10th September in Takoradi, Ghana this year.
The winner of this contest will be in the tournament group stage.
In his first two international outings, Coach Tostao’s team were beaten 3-1 and eliminated 4-2 on aggregate by Senegal in Dakar at the Alassane Djigo Stadium in Pikine (outskirts of Dakar) last month, in the preliminary qualifiers of the African Nations Championship – CHAN.
The WAFU tournament, which features all 16 regional nations, also pitches defending champions Ghana against Gambia in their opening Zone A knockout match.
The Black Stars and Sierra Leone set to meet in the group stage if they advance past the first round, a rehearsal of the Cameron 2019 qualifiers next year.
The tournament will be staged in the cities of Sekondi-Takoradi and Cape Coast between the 9th and 24th of September.

A goal from Sierra Leone and New England Revolution striker Kei Kamara against Chicago Fire was not enough as they were defeated 4-1 at Toyota Park Stadium on Saturday evening.
Kamara extended his goal-scoring streak to three games with a header in the 24th minute.
His goal was his fourth in his last three games.
The three game goal scoring streak is Kamara’s longest since August 2015, when he scored in three consecutive games for Columbus Crew SC.
Matt Polster scored Chicago Fire opening in the eighth minute before forward Kei Kamara got the equalizer in the 24th minute.
Chicago Fire, however, responded with two more goals from Juninho and Michael de Leeuw on either side of halftime, as well as a late addition from Luis Solignac, to earn all three points.
The Sierra Leone international, Kamara, who made his 275th career appearance against Chicago Fire – now has 94 goals in his MLS career.

Hampton & Richmond Borough defender, Michael Kamara, who committed his international future to Sierra Leone in April this year, scored the equaliser for his side to ensure they avoid first league defeat on Saturday.
East Thurrock United played out an entertaining 1-1 draw against Hampton & Richmond Borough in the opening game of the new National League South season.
It was a quiet opening, with Ryan Moss sending a volley off target for the visitors who also had a penalty shout waved away.
But the best chance of the opening 22 minutes belonged to the home team East Thurrock.
Kamara, 28, sent a diving header narrowly over the crossbar in the final action of the first-half.
All goals were scored in the second half at the Future Fuel Stadium in the 53 and 61’ minutes respectively.
Montel Agyemang opened the scoring with his debut goal for the Rocks before Michael Kamara levelled things up to secure a point from the penalty spot.
Meanwhile, the Athens-born centre-back, who was part of the successful Dover Athletic side when they won promotion from the Conference South n May 2015, has committed his international future to Sierra Leone.
Kamara told this medium in April, “I’m buzzing with excitement. However, is up to the football authorities but I’ve always wanted to play international football for the country of my parent’s.”
