Mustapha Dumbuya departs Scottish club Falkirk

Sierra Leone international defender Mustapha Dumbuya has left Scottish club Falkirk, the club has confirmed.

The former Partick Thistle defender agreed on a short-term deal in November 2018 with Scottish Championship club Falkirk until January.

The right-back was a backup signing by Ray McKinnon. He failed to make a first-team appearance.

Dumbuya spent the 2017-18 season with relegated Partick Thistle in the Scottish top-flight before he departed the club.

“We can confirm that Marcus Haber and Mustapha Dumbuya have left the club, ” the club said in a statement.

Dumbuya, 31, has had spells with Doncaster Rovers, Crystal Palace (Loan), Portsmouth, Crawley Town, Notts County, and Partick Thistle.

Reigning Player of the Year Mohamed Salah, team-mate Sadio Mane and 2015 winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, have made the top three on final shortlist.

This year’s ceremony will be held at an awards gala on 8 January in Dakar, Senegal.

A repeat of last year, the three players will be hoping to begin the year with the crown of Player of the Year for their exploits in 2018.

The women’s shortlist has also been revealed with Nigeria duo Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega, and South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana making the final three.

Oshoala has won the last two Caf awards and three in total, and along with Ordega helped the Super Falcons win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2018.

Kgatlana was the Most Valuable Player and top-scorer at the Nations Cup as Banyana Banyana narrowly lost out to Nigeria on penalties in the final.

Saudi club Al-Jabalain part ways with Alfred Sankoh

Sierra Leone international Alfred Sankoh has left Saudi Arabian club Al-Jabalain FC, five months after penning a one year contract.

The 30-year-old, who joined the club in July this year, is in talks with one Omanis football club, Football Sierra Leone understands.

The former Denizlispor midfielder, presently in Freetown has struggled for a regular place in the team and has confirmed opted out of his contract.

Sankoh is amongst a list of Sierra Leone natives that have signed and played for Saudi Arabian clubs.

Sankoh professional career started with Norwegian Strømsgodset in 2008.

He has had spells with Ullern, Khazar Lankaran, Balikesirspor and Denizlispor.

The Sierra Leone government has decided to boost the country’s long-awaited top-flight football league with a mouth-watering and record-breaking cash injection.

The country’s Premier League Board will receive 2-billion Leones (approximately about $250,000) which is a massive unmatched by previous sponsorship.

The first Premier League Board to be set set-up in 2008 received “10,000 as sponsorship, Football Sierra Leone understands.

The Sierra Leone Premier League has been on hold for nearly five years due to a protracted power struggle at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).

Sierra Leone’s last edition of the Premier League was suspended through the season in 2014 because of the Ebola epidemic.

East End Lions was topping the 2014 campaign prior to its suspension.

“It is a great opportunity to get the country back to playing a domestic league after four years,” Chairman of Premier Board Lawyer Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai told Football Sierra Leone UK.

“The government is manifesting a great commitment to football and, youth employment.”

“It is hoped that the footballers and stakeholders will make the best out of this new dawn now in football.”

The country is still under suspension over alleged government interference.

The country’s anti-corruption commission (ACC) set aside the FA president Isha Johansen and secretary general Christopher Kamara pending an investigation into allegations of corruption which both deny.

The case is ongoing and, FIFA has said they will consider lifting the ban after the case against Johansen and Kamara is completed.

Striker Sheka Fofanah leaves Oman club Al Nasr by mutual consent

Sierra Leone striker Sheka Fofanah and Al Nasr have parted ways by mutual consent four months after joining the Oman top-flight side.

Fofanah scored nine goals in fourteen appearances while playing for El-Merreikh of Sudan before he joined Al Nasr in Oman on a one-year contract.

“Officially: Al Nasr contract with the Sierra Leonean striker Sheka Fofanah is dissolved by mutual consent and wishes him success in his next professional career,” the club said in a statement.

Sheka, 20, started his career with local club Freetown City Council FC, before he was invited to trials with Swedish Champions IFK Norrkoping and later move to Denmark to signed for Danish 1st Division side Vejle Boldklub in 2016.
