Osman Kakay pleased with QPR’s first win of the season

It was a second straight start for Sierra Leone International, who was pleased after Queens Park Rangers’ first win of the new season.

Sierra Leone right-back Osman Kakay has expressed his delight after his London side Queens Park Rangers earned their first points of the season, defeating Middlesbrough 3-2 on Saturday.

QPR held off a strong Middlesbrough fightback to claim a narrow win 3-2 at Loftus Road.

Kakay played the full throttle of the contest as Chris Willock scored a spectacular opener in the 23-minute en-route to their first win of the season.

James Dunne headed in Ilias Chair’s corner to double the R’s lead before Lyndon Dykes made it three for the home side.

However, just before half-time, Matt Crooks’ bullet header gave the visitors some hope as Marcus Forss’ close-range finish on his first start made it 3-2.

Late on in the tie, the visiting side saw a straight red card when Lenihan was dismissed for a knee-high challenge on Bonne.

After the contest, Kakay told Football Sierra Leone he was pleased to help his side to their first win of the season.

“Happy that we got the first win. It will help us build momentum going into the upcoming games,” Kakay briefly told this medium.

The Hoops lost their English Championship opener 1-0 away to Blackburn at Ewood Park last Saturday.

Kei Kamara speaks after reaching new MLS height

Kei Kamara speaks after reaching new MLS height

Kei Kamara has described reaching Major League Soccer’s third all-time top scorer as a blessing and thanked all those who have supported him.

The retired Sierra Leone International, 37-year-old MLS legendary status reaches a new height.

Kamara, the CF Montréal striker, is now third on MLS’s all-time goals scored record after his goal on Wednesday night.

CF Montréal defeated Columbus Crew 2-1 win after Kamara’s draw parity in the 88th minute to align his all-time MLS tally with Jeff Cunningham at 134 career tallies.

The Ex-Sierra Leone international got Montréal’s road comeback started in the 88th minute, heading home Alistair Johnston’s corner kick in trademark fashion.

“It’s amazing and a blessing to be in such a club of players at such a crucial time of Major League Soccer,” a delighted Kamara told FootballSierraLeone.Net.

“Major League Soccer is becoming one of the best leagues in the world with so much attention from international players moving to the MLS.

I am honoured – but not done yet. I feel great, and I am going to continue playing in this league that I know so well.

An accomplishment like this is not really about me but the people that follow me. My family, my friends, the fans that followed and appreciate what I do on and off the field for so many years.”

For me, it is a blessing that I can continue to do what I love playing soccer, but at the same time, I am focused on continuing to help my team and teammates.” So, I am enjoying the moment. The goal was against one of my favourite clubs in Major league Soccer, the Columbus Crew, the club I first played for professionally.”

Tyrese Fornah features in Reading’s opening defeat

On-loan from Nottingham Forest, Sierra Leone native Tyrese Fornah started for the Royals in their Championship opener against Blackpool at Bloomfield Rd on Saturday.

The Royals began the 2022-23 campaign with a 1-0 defeat in Lancashire as Callum Alexander Connolly scored the only goal of the game for the home side.

Fornah, 22, was named in Reading’s first eleven for the season opener as they battled to get the season off to a good start.

Despite their all effort to get back into the game, Paul Ince’s side never was unable to get the equaliser as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.

Fornah joined Championship side Reading on a season-long loan. Reading will host Cardiff City on Saturday, their first home game of the season.

They have now lost their opening league match of the season in five of the past six seasons.

Blackpool manager Michael Appleton told BBC Radio Lancashire:

“We started really fast. We were excellent. I thought we could have had a couple more goals in the first half. We did get a bit sloppy but I’m disappointed we scored only one.”

Reading manager Paul Ince told BBC Radio Berkshire:

“We conceded a silly goal. We had a much better second half. Our starting 11 put in a hell of an effort. We need to consider our lack of depth at the moment. It could take three of four weeks until our team starts to gel.”

Osman Kakay’s QPR start season with defeat to Rovers

Sierra Leone International defender Osman Kakay was named in Queens Park Rangers’ starting eleven and played the full throttle of the game as Blackburn Rovers kicked off the new season with a 1-0 win at Ewood Park on Saturday.

Lewis Travis’ stunning strike was enough to ensure Rovers got the 2022-23 campaign off to the perfect start with a victory against Queens Park Rangers.

Both sides were evenly matched through most of the first half, Osman Kakay hitting the bar for the R’s before Rovers launched a sustained attack and Lewis Travis blasted a shot into the top corner from 25 yards out.

The 24-year-old’s wonder strike means the newly appointed Rovers captain has already equalled his goal tally from last season.

The London side came out of the dressing room with renewed energy after the break with Ilias Chair soon firing narrowly wide. The home side held on to register an opening victory.

Rovers have now won their past six home league matches against QPR, a run that stretches back to the 2016-17 campaign.

Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson told BBC Radio Lancashire: “I’m very pleased. We scored a great goal. We were better and more dominant in the second half. I thought we could have scored another goal. It’s a great win for us and our supporters.”

QPR manager Michael Beale told BBC Radio London: “I thought it was a really even game. In the main our shape was good and our possession was good. We showed a lot of good things.

“So we’re disappointed that we’ve come away from home, played well, but lost on a set-play and lacked quality in the final third.”

QPR’s next English Championship action is on Saturday 6th August when they host Middlesbrough at 3 pm.
