Tejan Brima eyes Rock Cup quarter-final

Sierra Leone-born winger Tejan Brima has revealed he is ‘excited’ ahead of Lynx‘s Gibraltar Rock Cup quarter-final against holders Lincoln Red Imps on Saturday.

The 2023 Rock Cup quarter-finals will take place on the 18th and 19th of February with four intriguing ties.

Brima, 23, who signed for Lynx in July, has been a great addition and has featured in their last twenty matches in all competitions for the Gibraltar top-tier side.

“On Saturday, we are playing against one of the best teams in Gibraltar in the Rock Cup quarter-final. They are the defending Cup champions as well, It’s going to be a difficult game, but we are aiming to go all the way,” Brima told FSL News.

He added, “Our focus is mainly on the Cup because our Championship position is a bit difficult. We obviously want to do well in this season’s cup competition,”

“This is my second quarter-final in this competition. Hopefully, this time will be victorious. No easy match when it comes to a knockout match in any competition. However, we have to be brave to play against a difficult opposition on Saturday.”

Brima and his teammates will face St. Joseph’s on Wednesday in their Championship tie before Saturdays’s Cup game.

They won 2-0 in their last meeting against Glacis United at the Gibraltar Victoria Stadium on the 4th of February.

The Rock Cup winner will book a place to represent Gibraltar in the Europa League. The Rock Cup is open to all Gibraltar Football Association club members and is played on a straight knock-out basis.

In 2014 UEFA president Michel Platini presented the trophy to the winners.

Sullay Kaikai nets first Dons goal in Oxford draw

Sullay Kaikai nets first Dons goal in Oxford draw

Sierra Leone attacker Sulllay Kaikai got his first goal for MK Dons in their 1-1 draw against Oxford United at the Stadium MK on Saturday.

Kaikai scored the Dons’ opener in the 25-minutes, but Lewis Bate’s 71st-minute superb goal earned a point for Oxford at MK Dons as a reward for a much-improved second-half performance by the visitors.

The draw means Dons remain one point clear of the League One relegation zone, just their third home win of the season.

The hosts were ahead when Sullay Kaikai was allowed to cut inside from the left before he found the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Having opened his account for his new club, Kaikai should have had his second when he shot wide of an open goal from Tennai Watson’s cut-back.

The Sierra Leone international, 27, who made ten appearances this season for the Wycombe Wanderers goal was not enough to win it for his new side.

Their wastefulness came back to haunt them in the 71st minute as Bate drew Oxford level with a wonderful strike from outside the box that flew into the top corner.

The goal sealed the victory for the visitors to set the early pace in Group D by taking them to the top.

Keeper Kamara in line to make Horoya’s CL debut

Keeper Kamara in line to make Horoya’s CL debut

Keeper Mohamed Kamara is in line to make his club continental debut after being named in Horoya’s CAF Champions League Group stage squad.

Sierra Leone first-choice keeper Mohamed Kamara could make his CAF Champions League debut for Guinean side Horoya at the Stade General Lansana Conté against Tanzanian side Simba SC on Saturday.

Africa’s top Inter clubs’ Group stage will kick off on Friday, 10 February 2023.

Kamara, 23, was named in Horoya’s official squad list for the Group Stage phase of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League published by CAF.

The Sierra Leonean sensation of the 2021 African Cup of Nation keeper, who signed a two-year deal with Horoya Athletic Club in May 2022, has featured in their six league games this season.

He was named Man of the Match in the Sierra Leone draw with Algeria on January 11 2022, at the Japoma Stadium, thanks to a brave display that saw him frustrate one of the tournament’s favourites.

He saved a vital spot-kick against the Ivory Coast that saw the Leone Stars rallied to a 2-2 draw at the Japoma Stadium.

Kamara helped East End Lions win the 2018/2019 season unbeaten, four points ahead of FC Kallon.

Simba SC have confirmed 45-man delegate will travel with Ethiopia with travel by Ethiopian Airlines en route to Guinea.
