Sesay pleased with performance and victory over Madura United

Sierra Leone defender Alie Sesay says he was happy with the way they performed against Madura United in their last league win.

Persebaya deservedly defeated Madura United 1-0 in a tough League OneBRI Liga 1 at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman on Saturday.

Brazilian Jose Wilkson Teixeira Rocha only goal proved the difference between the two sides, with the Leone Stars defender playing the full throttle of the game.

The 27-year-old says the win was a professional team performance. Madura United was a good value for the victory.

“We knew that it was going to be a difficult game, but our mentality and composure gave us the edge over them,” Sesay to FSL Sport.

“As a team, we played against a tough side, but we maintained our disciplined. It was a case of us riding the storm and protecting our lead for almost 40-minutes.”

Madura United coach Fabio Lefundes has said the match against Persebaya was not an easy match considering the opponents they faced were quite good opponents and had quality.

Since joining the team, Sesay has made nine appearances helping the team to six wins, two draws and a defeat.

Sesay, a former Leicester academy graduate, was named in the Indonesia top-tier Team of the Week after another superb performance.

Bo Rangers hold top spot after Lions defeat to Parade

Jose Solomon Cortes’s Bo Rangers have a perfect 35 points after seventeen first-round matches of the Sierra Leone Premier League thanks to Central Parade 1-0 over East End Lions on Sunday courtesy of Musa Bangura only goal at the Siaka Steven Stadium.

Bangura’s goal came in the 45th-minute, assisted by Man of the Match midfielder Kassim Turay.

The Southern Province side, on their part, has been on top gear defeating the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces outfit by 2-0 with goals from top league scorer Musa Noah Tombo and Lamin Kargbo in their final first-round game on Saturday at the Bo Stadium.

It was a tough defeat for East End Lions, who lost to third-place side Central Parade as they have failed to win in their last three league outings.

Another interesting result was the East End Tigers 1-0 win in Koidu Town in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone to wrap their first lap.

Northern Province giant Wusum Stars stay fourth on 29 points, six behind leaders Rangers and four adrift of Lions in second.

FC Kallon is still in the race after 17 matches with 28 points seven adrift from the top, but they will have to improve their winning run in the second round. The Cavaliers suffered a home defeat to Diamond Stars in their last league outing.

Meanwhile, due to the Freetown-based Siaka Steven stadium expected to close down at the end of January 2022 until January 2023 for renovation, it is unclear whether there will be a second round. The over four-decade-old stadium has been the home venue for many top tier teams.

Alhaji Kamara scores brace in Randers big win over Vejle BK

Alhaji Kamara, who recently extended his stay with Danish Superliga side Randers, has continued to make the most of his time with two goals in their 4-1 thrashing of  Vejle BK on Saturday.

At Cepheus Park, Kamara opens the scoring with his head for his side in the 37th minutes before Vejle BK Hallur Hansson restored parity just before the break.

Four minutes into the restart, the Sierra Leone International was at it again with his second header of the day as Randers took the lead for the second time.

A minute later, Jakob Ankersen scored Randers third in an entertaining Danish Superliga match in front of the home fans.

Simon Piesinger completed the win with a superb freekick sending the fams into ecstasy. As a result, they have moved up to third, at least, until other matches are completed this weekend.

In the last six matches, Randers got three wins, two draws and one defeat on all fronts. At home, the team’s achievements are similar, in which the only defeat was against the top team Midtjylland.

Following his contract extension, he told the club’s website that he was pleased and feeling at home.

“I feel very much at home at VfB Stuttgart, so I’m very happy about the contract extension. I got the chance to develop as a young player and make my debut in the Bundesliga.

After my injury, the people in charge at VfB, the coaching team, the medical department and my teammates gave me great support. I am very grateful for that. I work hard in rehab, and I will give everything to come back stronger.”

“We are all convinced that after completing the rehabilitation measures, he will achieve his original level of performance and that he will have a long and hopefully successful career ahead of him,” Sports director Sven Mislintat on Sankoh.
