38 players listed as Togo set for Sierra Leone & Benin

The FTF has confirmed their list, including names of under 23 players.

Togo will square up with Sierra Leone on March 24 before challenging Benin on March 29 in preparation for AFCON 2023 qualifiers.

After their poor showing in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification Group G, new technician Portuguese coach Paulo Duarte is working on Ivory Coast 2023.

Under the supervision of their Portuguese coach, Sparrowhawks ended second behind Senegal in the second round group stages of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Liberia name troops for Benin, Sierra Leone & Burundi

English-man Peter Butler has named a 23-man squad for three International friendlies in Antalya, Turkey. 

The LFA says Liberia will battle with Benin on 24 March, Sierra Leone on 27 March and Burundi on 29 March. 

Six new Lone Star players will be hoping to make their debut for the West African side.

They are Italy-based Mohamed Cherif Diallo and local-based players Junior Yeanay, Allenton Sembeh, Frank Allison, Emmanuel Reyah, Divine Roosevelt Teah and Prince Zawoh will be hoping to make their debuts. 

Their last contest was a 1-0 defeat for Liberia in the first round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown on 8 September 2019.

I will make the trip to Turkey – Cambuur’s defender

Alex Bangura, who is playing as a left-back or a winger for Eredivisie club SC Cambuur, has confirmed joining the Sierra Leone training camp in Turkey.

The Sierra Leone Football Association says Leone Stars will play three International friendlies in Antalya, Turkey.

“SLFA has successfully concluded arrangements to hold three FIFA sanctioned international friendly matches against Togo, Liberia and Congo Brazzaville on the 24, 27 and 29 March 2022, respectively.”

The training camp is part of Sierra Leone’s preparation ahead of the 2023 African Cup Nations qualifiers.

Speaking to Football Sierra Leone, the Netherlands-based defender confirmed his availability ahead of the training camp.

“Yes, I will make the trip to Turkey to represent my country, he proudly noted when answering our questions.” 

Sierra Leone’s last outing was the defeat to Equatorial Guinea on January 20th at the Limbe Stadium.

Amadou Bakayoko reveals interest in representing Sierra Leone

Bolton Wanderers striker Amadou Bakayoko has revealed his Sierra Leone Interest. Representing the West African nation is something he’s looking forward to doing.

Born in Sierra Leone, Trotters striker, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions this campaign, is open to joining the Leone Stars.

“I certainly will accept a call-up it’s is something I am looking forward to,” Bakayoko expressed his desire when answering our questions.

“I was born in Sierra Leone and I’m now ready to represent my country.”

Since joining English League side Bolton on a two-year deal in June 2021, he has been a pivotal player in Ian Evatt’s side. 

The 6ft 2in tall striker came through Walsall’s academy and has had loan spells with AFC Telford United, Southport and Worcester City.

He joined Coventry City in 2018, where he made 85 appearances during his time with the club, scoring 12 goals.

He was named in Sierra Leone side back in 2018 for AFCON qualifying trip Ethiopia but turned it down due to club commitment.

“I’m very excited to be able to score my first debut goal for the Charleston Battery. It’s a great feeling starting the right way I wanted. I hope to continue this way and help the team in whatever way they way me towards success,” Williams told FSL News.

The Sierra Leone striker goal came when he capitalized on a two-on-one break and delivered a precise finish to the bottom-right corner after being played in by Aidan Apodaca. 

The hosts carried their lead to the halftime break before having a man-advantage as FC Tulsa’s Rodrigo da Costa was sent off for his second yellow card of the game.

The Battery held on to open their USL Championship campaign with a home win.

Espérance beat Etoile du Sahel to go top of Group C

Espérance Sportive de Tunis defeated Etoile du Sahel 2-0 in the Tunisian Derby at the Stade Olympique de Radès in Tunis on Saturday.

The victory took Espérance Sportive de Tunis top of TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Group C standings. 

Goals from Abdelkader Bedrane and Mohamed Ben Romdhane were enough as Esperance’s registered eight points, same as second-placed CR Belouizdad.

Espérance’s next two games are against Jwaneng Galaxy on the 19th and CR Belouizdad in April.

Meanwhile, South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns completed a CAF Champions League double over Al Ahly after a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Peter Shalulile break the deadlock with an easy tap-in from inside Al Ahly’s area after 22 minutes.

As a result, the Sundowns maintained top of group A with 10 points six ahead of their opponents after four matches played.

They will face Al Hilal on the 19th of March before hosting Al Merrikh in their final game.
