Midfielder Sesay scores again for JS Hercules

Abdul ‘Buduski’ Sesay continued his fine form for JS Hercules by scoring for the Kakkonen club once again despite the club struggling this season.

The Leone Stars midfielder was impressive on Saturday in their 5-2 away victory over Oulu TP as he scored his fifth of the season at the Oulu-Lehte Stadium.

The former Oulun Palloseura attacking midfielder scored in the 75th minute to wrapped up the victory against the host team.

Since signing for Hercules on a one-year deal until the end of 2017, his class has never been in doubt.

However, the Leone Stars midfielder maintained it has been a tough season for him and his side.

“Three more games to go, we are seventh on the table, and hopefully we can climb up the table if we can win all our remaining games,” Sesay told FSL.

He added: “As always I’m pleased to be on the scorecard once again.”

Hassan Milla Sesay: FC Lahti defender delighted with first goal

The 29-year-old helped the Black Drones on their way to a 4-2 thrashing at the Vehkahalli Stadium over host FC JJK Jyväskylä on Thursday.

The Left-Back was on target, he scored from the rebound to registered his first of the season in the 4th minutes in a Finnish Premier League (Veikkausliiga) encounter and has made eighteen league appearances this season.

“It was a great feeling after so many games, Sesay told footballsierraleone.net.

“But it is all down to hard work, the whole team is working very hard, we’re second on the table so it was a great match and a very important victory for us.

“Hopefully we stay focus because we have eight tough games to the end and if we keep doing what we have been doing all season we can qualify for Europe next season,” the Left-Back added.

Their next outing is on Monday, September 11 at home hosting third place side Kuopion PS.

Coach Karim calls for calm ahead of WAFU knockout against Super Eagles

Home-based assistant coach, Amidu Karim, has called for calm ahead of their knockout tie of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations at the Ndoum Sports Stadium.

Sierra Leone will be appearing at their third WAFU Nations Cup tournament.

They are set to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the Malima Stadium in Cape Coast Ghana on Monday, September 11.

The winner of this contest will be in the tournament group stage.

Coach Karim said he is aware of the pressure from the fans and the tough task ahead taking on one of the top sides in Africa but has warned his players to keep their emotions in checks ahead of their crunch tie.

Coach Karim from Ghana told CNT sports: “I am aware of the pressure from fans and I have told my boys to be calm. We have to approach this tie with calmness and I’m confident my boys will deliver.”

“It will be a thrilling showdown between the two sides and we are mentally and physically prepared to face one of Africa’s big nations Nigeria and we have to show we are capable of keeping a good atmosphere and give them a good game. We have to keep it like that.

“Some football pundits have tipped Nigeria as a favourite but we have seen surprises in the past. We have to stand up to a team who are very disciplined and well organized but am confident my boys will live up to expectation,” Amidu stressed

He, however, called on fans to be behind the team and remember the boys in their prayers. Sierra Leone has won two, lost nine and three draws in their previous fourteen meetings with their Nigerian counterpart in all competitions.

The West African tournament will be hosted by Ghana between 9th-24th September.

Sierra Leone international and AFC Eskilstuna striker Mohamed Buya Turay has been nominated for his fine performances.

Turay was nominated with two others for the Swedish top flight Player of the Month award for August and the winner will be announced on Sunday 10 September 2017.

The forward will face off against AIK’s striker Chinedu Obasi and Häcken Ahmed Yasin following their top performances in August for the award.

Turay, 22, has bagged eight goals in all competition this season and was brilliant in AFC’s 1-1 draw against AIK at the Friends Arena in Solna, Stockholm he scored the opener 13th August.

The following week he netted a brace in their 3-1 win over Malmo on August 19th respectively scoring three goals.

Obasi has scored three goals in August among other things, he lowered Sirius with two goals.

Ahmed Yasin, who joined Häcken on loan from AIK in July, has been an instrumental figure for the Goteborg-based club.

He registered two important goals for BK Häcken against GIF Sundsvall and Jönköpings Södra IF.

WAFU Cup: Sierra Leone, Nigeria opener moved to Monday

Sierra Leone’s WAFU Nations Cup opener against Nigeria has been moved to Monday, officials have confirmed.

The Leone Stars v Nigeria contest that was slated for Saturday, September 9 will now be played at the Malima Stadium Cape Coast Ghana on Monday, September 11, due to unforeseen circumstances.

However, hosts Ghana will play Gambia in their crucial first knockout round of the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations at the Ndoum Sports Stadium on Saturday.

”Our match against Sierra Leone which was originally fixed for Saturday has now been moved to Monday thanks to the efforts of the NFF leadership,” Eagles Coach Salisu Yusuf told Score Nigeria.

Sierra Leone local technician Abu Bakarr Kamaraa one-time national captain acknowledged his side have an uphill task if they are to make it to the group stages of the tournament.

But he is confident his squad can cause an upset against the home-based Super Eagles.

“I know it’s going to be a tough encounter but I’m confident that we will come out of the match with our heads raised up. I have faith in my boys and I’m convinced they would be able to implement the tactics we’ve learnt over the past few weeks,” coach Tostao was quoted as saying.

Following every knockout matches, eight qualifying teams will emerge for a group phase competition.

This year’s WAFU Championship will be the first of its kind following the sub-regions 12 years partnership with broadcast giants Fox TV.

WAFU Cup: Salisu Yusuf names local Eagles squad for Sierra Leone

Super Eagles home-based coach, Salisu Yusuf, has included Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Ajiboye in his 18-man squad for the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations event in Ghana.

Local hero midfielder Rabiu Ali and Kingsley Eduwo have also been named alongside defenders Eze Stephen, Chima Akas, Osas Okoro and Emmanuel Ariwachukwu.

Others within the squad are Gabriel Okechukwu, Ubong Friday, Destiny Ashadi, Peter Eneji and Lobi Stars’ prolific striker Anthony Okpotu.

The local Eagles first task will be against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in the first knock-out round of the tournament this weekend.

After all knockout matches, eight qualifying teams will emerge for a group phase competition.

The competition takes place from the 9th – 24th September.
