Joint-top striker Baimba Sesay relishes Blackpool test

East End Tiger’s Baimba Sesay says Mighty Blackpool will be a difficult test on Saturday but, the striker is eagerly waiting to face the western giants.

Already three games into the season, the Tigers striker is a joint top scorer with two goals.

His 75th-minute goal on Wednesday against Freetown City FC at the Attouga Mini-stadium tallied him with the likes of Ibrahim Dixon of Central Parade, Abu Komeh of FC Kallon and Foday Mansaray aka Ballack of Ports Authority.

“Honestly, we are going up against one of the best teams in the country Mighty Blackpool,” Sesay to club’s media.

“However, for an upcoming player like myself that can only be a good thing.”

“I am thankful for having good teammates around me, without them, it will be difficult having opportunities.”

The game will kick off at exactly 4:30 PM at the Lungi Central Playing field.
This is Sesay’s first season in the Sierra Leone top-flight football.

Meanwhile, East End Tigers skipper is part of the squad to face Blackpool for the first time this season.

Amos Walker has been out due to a minor injury, the club has confirmed.

Sallia Fawundu knows his club Mighty Blackpool must win on Saturday to ease the pressure and start to salvage their season.

The ‘Tis Tas boys’ will tackle in-form East End Tigers, currently fifth on six points at the Lungi Central Playing field at exactly 4:30.

Sierra Leone’s most decorated are still without a win this season in the Premier League losing two of their three matches played.

Under Pressure coach, Abu Sankoh was set-aside due to the team’s poor results losing to rivals East End Lions and FC Kallon.

The club standing second from bottom announced that Sankoh’s assistant, Mohamed Jabbie will be in charge for the game against the East End Tigers.

East End Tigers, on the contrary, have only lost once out of three winning twice.

The Tigers, however, lost their first home game against Kamboi Eagles but their leading scorer Baimba Sesay is targeting more when he face Blackpool.

Sesay has taken his tally to two goals from three matches for the Tigers with his 75th-minute goal, against Freetown City FC at the Attouga Mini-stadium on Wednesday.

“Blackpool’s events of the pitch have unfortunately exhibited the outcomes on the pitch. It is highly unfortunate that the coach, Abu Sankoh has been made a scapegoat though,” Fawundu told Football Sierra Leone.

“Blackpool in all games so far has absolutely shown intricate midfield play and, composure. The results against FC Kallon and Lions games don’t show the tale of the player’s resolve and spirit.”

“For me, this Saturday is a must-win match as it’s not too late to salvage this season,” Fawundu explained.

“A hat-trick of victories, we should be in the hunt for glory again in the league. It’s inconceivable that we haven’t scored three games into the season, so I’m looking forward to victory in Lungi.”

The Blackpool agog fan also sends a message to the club’s management.

“The Executive need to manage the expectations of the players and fans alike. Instead of talking to the fans especially, should be engaging them. There is a disconnection at the moment and, it is spilling over unto the pitch.”

SLFA’s Johansen calls for calm before the storm at CAF

SLFA’s Johansen calls for calm before the storm at CAF

Sierra Leone’s Isha Johansen has called on the Confederation of African Football, CAF to a sitting before it internal squabbling gets out of control.

The embattled SLFA boss, who is still under investigation on allegations of corruption-related charges, has written a letter to executive committee members requesting an urgent meeting.

Her letter emerged after two leaked letters from another exco member, Musa Bility, accused CAF president Ahmad Ahmad of violating the governing body’s statutes.

In her letter, also sent to Ahmad, Johansen wrote that the CAF leadership was “sitting on what I believe strongly has the potential of spiralling out of control.”

Football Sierra Leone understands that she also questioned the lack of response from the exco to the criticism of Ahmad, calling it a “deafening silence.”

“Am I the only one feeling that there is a storm behind this calm?”

A few days ago, former Liberia FA boss Musa Bility resigned from two senior CAF posts in protest over how Ahmad handles management of Africa’s ruling body, writing that CAF risked becoming the “subject of ridicule around the world.”

“I can no longer summon the courage to work in these posts at the whims and caprices of the president who I believe is leading this noble organisation in the wrong direction,” Bility said in his letter.

The outspoken Bility himself in the past faced with allegations of corruption having failed an integrity test during the 2016 FIFA presidential election won by Gianni Infantino.

On his attack on Ahmad’s leadership style, Bility claimed Ahmad told him: “I’m the president and I do as I want.”

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone facing a Fifa suspension until the alleged corruption trial against Isha Johansen and Chris Kamara concludes.

CAF CL: Horoya edge Platinum, Mamelodi Sundowns held in Abidjan

CAF CL: Horoya edge Platinum, Mamelodi Sundowns held in Abidjan

Guinean top-flight side Horoya beat Zimbabwean club Platinum 2-0 in their Caf Champions League Group B at Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry on Tuesday.

As a result, Horoya have moved up to second place in the group B standings winning two draws one and a defeat of their four matches played.

Ocansey Mandela and Yakubu Hudu scored for the Guinean side who move two points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates and a point behind defending champions Esperance de Tunis.

Horoya’s next CAF Champions League action is a trip to Rades to take on Esperance while Platinum travel to South Africa to face Orlando Pirates next month.

Elsewhere, South African side Mamelodi Sundowns played to a barren draw against ASEC Mimosas at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in a Caf Champions League Group A clash on Tuesday.

Both teams were unable to find any real rhythm on a bumpy pitch in Abidjan.

The result means, Sundowns having won two of their four group matches remain top of the table with seven points.

Sundowns next action will be against Nigerian side Lobi Stars, who stand bottom of the table in South Africa’s capital next month while ASEC host to Wydad on matchday five.
