Reports: Herman Tsinga collapse and die in Libreville

Herman Tsinga, who was playing in the Gabonese first division, died after collapsing during a game in Libreville, local media reported on Monday.

Tsinga, 30, a striker for Akanda FC, collapsed in the 23rd minute of the match with Missile FC on Saturday, The Union daily newspaper reported.

He received a cardiac massage by a military doctor but died on his way to the hospital.

An amateur video posted on Twitter showed the confused reaction after Tsinga collapsed on the edge of the centre circle.

According to The Union, neither of the two ambulances at the scene had the defibrillator or oxygen mask necessary “to save the life of the player”.

The death was the seventh in 12 years in Gabonese football, The Union said.

The match was part of the second round of the championship, which was able to resume in February after a gap of eight months when Gabon Oil Company agreed to sponsor the competition.

Kamara scores first in Rapids home six-goal thriller

Kamara scores first in Rapids home six-goal thriller

Striker Kei Kamara has started the new campaign with a bang after scoring for Colorado Rapids in their 3-3 against Portland Timbers at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Kamara opened his account by tapping in a Kellyn Acosta cross in the opening 16th minutes on a day dubbed as the coldest “game” in the history of Major League Soccer.

Disappointedly for the home side, Axel Sjoberg was shown a red card for a handball in the box in the 27th minutes, to make matters worse the Timbers were awarded a penalty kick a few minutes later.

The spot kick was scored by Midfielder Diego Valeri scored before the half-hour mark after slotting home past Tim Haward a rebound of his own saved penalty kick.

Under difficult snowy weather conditions, Sebastian Blanco put Portland in front in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, hammering onto a Valeri corner and slipping a glancing header inside the far post.

Immediately after the restart, Benny Feilhaber scored his first goal for the Rapids and levelled it for the home team.

The Timbers were not ready to allow the host to take the maximum point as they regained their lead 20 minutes later when a sliding Deklan Wynne deflected Andy Polo’s cross into his own net.

However, Andre Shinyashiki last-gasp goal was enough to lift the 10-man Colorado Rapids to a 3-3 draw in their first game of the season.

The 26-year-old Ivorian player was pleased with his goal and, teams performance.

He told the club’s website, “The main thing is the three points for the team but, I’m glad I could add to the goals.”

“To be honest, I score goals like that all the time in training when we play five-a-side, so it’s nice to finally get a goal like that in a game.”
