Joseph Yobo backs Super Eagles for AFCON glory

Former Nigeria defender, Joseph Yobo, believes Super Eagles will impress during this month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

Gernot Rohr’s side will be making a return to the biennial tournament since Yobo captained them to their third title in 2013, having missed the 2015 and 2017 editions.

“I’ve played with a squad full of talented and established players, yet we finished third on three occasions [2002, 2004 and 2006],” Yobo told Sun Nigeria.

He added, “In 2013 we had an inexperienced squad, but we ended up as champions. Kudos to our late coach Stephen Keshi for such a brave move.

“Nigeria is a massive country. Football easily generates different opinions among the populace, because we all love the game.”

Nigeria three-time champions will compete against Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi in Group B at the Nations Cup.

They’ll open their Afcon campaign against Burundi on 22 June at the Alexandria Stadium, Alexandria.

The former Eagles skipper in hoping experienced midfielder Mikel Obi will help the younger players.

Kamara goal extends Colorado Rapids’ unbeaten streak

Colorado Rapids extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a 1-0 victory over Minnesota United on Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

The Rapids top striker Kei Kamara scored the only goal and was named Man of the Match.

The Sierra Leonean registered his eighth goal of the season with a header in the 29th minute from a Jack Price’s corner kick.

The victory means they climbed off the Western Conference table and move above Portland Timbers.

The former New England Revolution and Whitecaps man have now scored his 120th MLS career, making him the fifth player in MLS to cross that threshold.

Bo Rangers make it three straight wins

Bo Rangers made it three straight wins after their 1-0 victory over East End tigers on Friday at the Siaka Steven Stadium to move up to tenth in the league.

Joseph Harding scored the match’s only goal as they secure maximum points in a hard-fourth victory.

The Southern Province club remains unbeaten under the leadership of caretaker coach John Dominic Konneh.

The new look Rangers have registered three victories against Ports Authority, Freetown City FC and East End Tigers in their last five games without conceding.

The last time they conceded was against league leaders East End Lions in a 3-1 defeat at home under sacked coach Titi before Konneh’s appointment.

Recent wins have seen them move away from the foot of the table and they are eight points adrift from fourth place Mighty Blackpool, who take on Old Edwardians later today.

Coach Konneh next outing is at home against the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces soccer team in six days. A game the home fans will be hoping for another victory.

ACC lodge appeal against SLFA’s boss Johansen and Kamara

Sierra Leone Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC have lodged an appeal against Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Isha Johansen and Sec-gen Chris Kamara.

ACC boss in Photo tweeted, “The ACC has filed an appeal in the Matter: State V. Isha Johansen and Christopher Kamara.”

Johansen, who is presently the only female football chief in world’s football, was acquitted and discharged alongside sec-gen Kamara of all charges on May 27, in a Freetown Court after seven months of Fifa suspension.

As a result, FIFA lifted the suspension imposed on Sierra Leone over alleged government interference.

“The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone wishes to inform the general public, that it has on the 6th June, 2019, filed a ten (10) grounds Notice of Appeal in the Court of Appeals of Sierra Leone, against the judgment of the High Court of Sierra Leone in the matter of intituled The State Vs. Isha Johansen and Christopher Abdul Kamara” read a statement.

Meanwhile, Johansen and Kamara were recently pictured in Paris ahead of the 69th FIFA Congress that was held at the Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France, on 5 June 2019.

CAF Malagasy president Ahmad arrested in Paris

The President of Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ahmad Ahmad has been arrested in Paris, capital of France.

The 59-year-old on Thursday morning arrested at a hotel in Paris, where he was staying to attend the FIFA Congress.

He has been president of the Confederation of African Football President since replacing Issa Hayatou in March 2017.

The world football governing body, Fifa has also confirmed that the Confederation of African Football is with authorities in France answering questions.

“In relation to allegations related to his mandate while President of Caf,” Fifa stated in a statement.

It added that “Fifa is unaware of the details surrounding this investigation and is therefore not in a position to make any comment on it specifically.”

“Fifa is asking the French authorities for any information that might be relevant to investigations taking place within its Ethics Committee.”

Kargbo pens first professional Crotone deal

Kargbo pens first professional Crotone deal

Augustus Kargbo has signed his first professional contract with Serie B FC Crotone.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal, tying him to the club until June 2022.

Kargbo told club website “I am really very proud and happy to have signed my first professional contract.”

“I consider Crotone a real family, they’ve welcomed me all in the best way since the first day I arrived.”

“I thank the Club for the trust it has placed in me. I hope to repay them on the pitch. All I have to do now is to keep working hard.”

The Sierra Leone youngster in July 2018 signed a pre-technical contract.

Kargbo, who had a spell with Campobasso in the Italian Serie D, has been a good player last season.
