NFF lines up Italy, Germany friendlies for Super Eagles

The national teams of Italy and Germany top the list of countries the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is shopping for, to play friendly matches with the Super Eagles next year.

The NFF will not be looking the way of countries below Nigeria in FIFA’s ranking.

The matches will come up during the FIFA’s official windows. The FIFA’s official or friendly windows are March 23-31, August 31-September 8, October 5-13 and November 9-17.

NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi spoke exclusively to Opera News: “We want to maximise the FIFA’s windows by playing quality matches. It is not about playing matches, but about quality, opposition to strengthen the Super Eagles.”

The Nigerian national team will play qualifiers in the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup next year.

Sanusi said the Eagles needed tough European opposition to keep them in shape.

Nigeria fell one-nil to Senegal, held Ukraine to 2-2 draw before drawing Brazil one all in Singapore in their last friendly match.

Blackpool boss explains Kaikai’s substitution against Sunderland

Boss Simon Grayson has revealed that a stomach bug was the reason Sierra Leone native Sullay Kaikai was subbed off at half-time during Blackpool’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Saturday.

Matty Virtue gave the Seasiders the lead after just four minutes before Charlie Wyke scored for the home side to cancel out Virtue opener.

After a difficult first half spell, the winger was replaced by Sean Scannell for the start of the second period.

Manager Grayson explained Kaikai had asked to come off during the interval.

“He’s just got a bit of a stomach issue,” the Pool boss was quoted as saying in the Blackpool gazette.

“You could tell Sullay was one of those players who didn’t influence the game.”

“Over the last few weeks, there’s been periods of games where he played well, and other periods where he’s been quiet.

The Seasiders are fifth on the League standing winning three of their last six matches.

Former Tanzania FA boss guilty on one of 20 charges

Former Tanzania FA boss guilty on one of 20 charges

Former Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) president and Fifa committee member Jamal Malinzi has been guilty on one of 20 corruption charges, BBC Sport reports.

Malinzi was facing charges of embezzlement and money-laundering but was found guilty of document forgery.

The judge ordered Malinzi to pay a fine of approximately $220 or serve a two-year jail term.

He had been on remand prison since June 2017 following his arrest by the country’s Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau.

Although Malinzi has agreed to pay the fine, he maintained his innocence throughout the case and claimed that the charges ‘were malicious’.

Last month he was sanctioned by world football’s governing body, Fifa, for the misappropriation of funds and falsifying documents.

Fifa banned him from all football-related activities for 10 years and fined him over five hundred thousand US dollars.

Lions’ Keeper Kamara rallies troops ahead of Blackpool cracker

Lions’ Keeper Kamara rallies troops ahead of Blackpool cracker

East End Lions goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara has urged teammates to maintain the high standards they showcase last season.

The Killers were left stunned after their opening 1-0 defeat, but Kamara maintained that will serve as a motivation to his side.

Keister’s men in a bid to revamp their season will be out searching for an instant response when they go toe to toe against arch-rivals Mighty Blackpool on Sunday at the Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown.

It’s going to be edgy after the champions opening defeat of the new campaign against Ports Authority, their first in 25 matches played under coach John Keister.

Host Blackpool will know their visitors will not want a two straight defeat.

Kamara reckons the standards they set themselves last season must be upheld despite a difficult start.

“We are playing a League, not one match. I believe the defeat is going to be a motivation moving forward. Our defeat to Ports was hard to take, but not the end of the world,” Kamara to FSL News.

“Ports v Lions has always been a tradition. They always put up their best performances against us.”

“Last season, we won the league unbeaten, which means we cannot do so this season. However, as a team, we have to stay focus aiming at winning the league again.”

“Maintaining our standards is a new challenge for us. It’s going to be tough, but after our success last season, we have to keep it up.”

Kamara reiterated, “Every season has its aims and objectives. To be a champion, you have to play over 25 games this season. For us, our defeat is surely a motivation.”

The two most decorated sides played to a barren draw in the final day of last season.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday Kamboi Eagles defeat Freetown City FC to maintain their 100% start to the new season.

A 65th-minute goal from Ahmed Vandi separated the two sides at the Siaka Steven Stadium.
