Mustapha Dumbuya set to continue US spell with Tampa Bay

Mustapha Dumbuya, 32, is set to continue his stay in the USA with St Petersburg Florida-based side Tampa Bay Rowdies.

USL Championship side ended last season as the 5th best Eastern Conference side, have added vital defenders to their ranks ahead of the 2020 season.

Three-time USL Championship All-League First Team selection Forrest Lasso and last season USL regular-season titleholder Mustapha Dumbuay among the players signed for the new campaign.

“Dumbuya signed on a one-year contract with a club option in 2020, pending league approval. Per club policy, further contract details were not disclosed,”the club confirmed on their website.

The former Partick Thistle defender last played for Phoenix Rising FC in the USL Championship’s Western Conference, where he won the USL regular-season title.

The Sierra Leone defender made 28 appearances as Phoenix’s first-choice right-back in a record-setting season that saw Rising FC set a league record with 78 points.

Dumbuya has had spells in England for Doncaster Rovers, Crystal Palace, Portsmouth, Crawley Town and Notts County. In Scotland, Partick Thistle and Falkirk FC.

The right-back is a Sierra Leone regular first-team player with 12 caps to his name in FIFA World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

Promising Malian striker El Bilal Touré joins Stade de Reims

Malina youngster El Bilal Touré has signed for French top-flight side Stade de Reims.

The Ligue 1 side announced on Friday the signing of the promising striker.

The 18-year-old winner of the CAN U-20 signed a five-year deal. Born in Côte d’Ivoire and passed through the prestigious Ivoiian Academy, AL FC will join the clubs second-tier side immediately.

“He will initially join the Pro 2 group, the reserve team where his compatriot Fodé Doucouré has been playing since this summer.”

“What we proposed to El Bilal was a structured project. First to acclimatize with French football and European culture, via the Pro 2 where he will rub shoulders with his compatriot Fodé Doucouré in particular,” the club confirmed.

Touré will have to prove himself with the second-tier side forcing his way up to the professional group.

Defender Osman Kakay returns to parent club QPR

Sierra Leone international defender Osman Kakay has returned to English Championship side Queens Park Rangers after his four months loan spell with Partick Thistle.

Kakay QPR’s contract will run out in 2021. He has two caps for Sierra Leone.

Kakay, 22, who made his full home debut for Sierra Leone in 1-1 draw November 13, 2019, against Lesotho in the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier, confirmed the news on twitter.

“Thank you to everyone involved @PartickThistle for welcoming me into your club. I’ve enjoyed every minute playing for the club!! Wishing you all the best for the rest of the season and the future,” he posted on his account.

The defender made 13 appearances for the Jags since completed the loan switch ahead of Scotland’s midnight deadline last September.

His first loan-spell in Scotland was during the second half of the 2015/16 campaign with Scottish Championship outfit Livingston.

He has also had a similar period spent with League One side Chesterfield in 2016/17.

Queen Park Rangers are currently 15th on the English Football League Championship table after registered a 6-1 win one of their biggest at home over Cardiff City on new years day.

Late Wakriya AC Player Kargbo to be buried in Sierra Leone 

The body of youngster, 17-year-old Alfred Kargbo, who died as a result of a road accident in Guinea on Monday, December 30, will finally be repatriated to Sierra Leone for burial.

The club said it is the wish of Kargbo’s family. A Guinean delegation composed of five (5) people, including the manager of the Djibril Sampou club, secretary-general Abdoulaye Manet, will accompany the body.

“They leave Conakry on Wednesday night, and the body will be buried on Thursday in Sierra Leone, ” the club said. 

On Monday, the club confirmed that their bus was ploughed into a stationary truck that was carrying tree logs at around 11 pm that killed two players Alfred kargbo, Aboubacar Camara and their bus driver N’fa Laye.

Wakriya AC, through the voice of its President Mikailou Sampou, once again offers its sincere condolences to the Kargbo family.

17-year-old Sierra Leonean dies in Guinea road accident 

Sierra Leonean player Alfred Kargbo has died following a crash in Guinea on Monday.

Alfred KARGBO, 17-year-old Sierra Leonean, signs 3 years at Wakriya AC.

Kargbo, who has been playing for the Guinean top-flight side, was involved in a serious road accident on Monday, his club Wakriya AC said in a statement.

The incident happens after his team were travelling back from a 2-1 away defeat to Loubha.

“It is with sadness within the club Wakriya AC, victims of a road accident on the night of this Monday, December 30,” the club posted on their website.

“Three has died including several injuries. The last being the driver of the club bus.”

Relatives, friends, acquaintances, players, supervisors and managers were at the bedside of Wakriya AC, devastated by the loss of two of its players plus the driver, in a traffic accident that occurred on Monday, December 30, around 11 p.m.

According to the club’s management, Alfred Kargbo’s families from Sierra Leone are in talks to decide where the young player will be buried.

John Keister wins AWOL Sports Personality of the Year 2019

Reigning champions East End Lions and Leone Stars assistant first-team coach, John Keister, has won the Sports Personality of the Year Award. Writer Morlai Kargbo 

He was named winner through unanimous votes during the 14th edition of the National Achievement Awards (NAA) organised by the All Walks Of Life (AWOL).

The Lions’ technician was presented with the award at the Bintumani Hotel Auditorium Aberdeen, Freetown by the president of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Madam Isha Johansen on Sunday, 29th December 2019.

The Manchester-born guided the East End Killers to a twenty-four match unbeaten run which eventually saw the Killers lifting the 2018/19 Sierra Leone Premier League unscratched.

Keister scooped the coveted award in a category involving Sierra Leone international Mohamed Buya Turay and the Sierra Leone National Swimming team.

“It’s a great pleasure for me to be recognised and awarded by the All Walks of Life”, coach Keister said.

“This award is as a result of the hard work put on by us all, my dedicated technical staff, and committed players of East End Lions,” the Leone Stars assistance coach maintained.

The former FC Johansen coach and CAF instructor thanked the people of Sierra Leone, especially sports fans who overwhelmingly voted him to claim the prestigious award.

“I’m pleased to be recognised for a dedicated hard work towards the game of football.”

“This award is dedicated to my family, fans and players of East End Lions Football Club,” he concluded.
