CAF named Commercial Director Bah as Acting General Secretary

CAF named Commercial Director Bah as Acting General Secretary

The Confederation of African Football’s Commercial Director Abdelmounaïm Bah has been appointed as Acting General Secretary, BBC Sport reports

Caf convened an Emergency Committee meeting on Tuesday to find a replacement for Mouad Hajji, who surprisingly quit on Monday.

Fellow Moroccan Bah, who has assumed the post immediately, will continue as both Acting Secretary-General and Commercial Director until Caf’s next Executive Committee meeting.

Bah became Commercial Director in June 2018 and was a unanimous appointment.

“The members have full confidence in Bah who has exhibited good qualities since joining Caf, particularly during the (2019) Africa Cup of Nations,” a Caf statement said.

Hajji, who had been in power for less than a year, resigned for “personal reasons” while expressing a need to “return to Morocco as soon as possible.”

His resignation came with Caf under scrutiny from football’s world governing body Fifa, who recently commissioned an audit into the running of African football’s ruling body that proved to be damning.

Amongst other details, the audit found that Caf’s accounting was “unreliable and not trustworthy” while its workforce was said to be “understaffed”, “overworked” and “demotivated”.

Caf has since revealed a plan to transform “into an organisation managed (and) bounded by the best international standards” within two years.

WAFU: Liberia edge Gambia to reach last four

WAFU: Liberia edge Gambia to reach last four

First-half goals from Margaret Stewart and Kankties Sayee were enough for Liberia to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament, after edging Gambia 2-1 in Makeni on Monday evening.

It was the second victory for the Lone Star Ladies in their campaign after downing Guinea Bissau 4-0 in the Group B opener.

Before Monday’s encounter, both Gambia and Liberia, were in contention to join Mali from the group into the last four, but it was Liberia’s vicious search in the clash that paid off courtesy defender Stewart’s opener in the first minute of the match which came from a well-rehearsed counter-attack before forward Kankties sealed the win for the Liberians eleven minutes later.

The Gambia reduced the deficit on 79 minutes when winger Ola Buwaro volleyed a cross to Adama Tamba, who connected home.

In the other Group B match in Bo, Mali continued their winning ways with a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau.

Defender Seynebou Sidibe opened the flood gate in the 32nd minute of the game and forward Aguissa Diarra sealed the win with a goal in the dying embers of the game to take her tally to five in the competition.

Mali finished on nine points, three more than Liberia as both progressed to the last four. The Gambia follows with three points with Guinea Bissau in that order pointless.
