Mustapha Bundu features in Anderlecht, Leverkusen friendly

  • Sierra Leone International Mustapha Bundu played for the first time for Anderlecht against Bayer Leverkusen in their 1-1 pre-season friendly at the Bay arena on Friday.
  • The German side took an early lead in the opening fifth minute through Palacious Exequiel via a long throw before Ghanaian striker Dauda Mohammed levelled the scoreline 15minute later.
 

The test was Bayer Leverkusen first pre-season friendly ahead of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season.

 
Bundu, 23, who is yet to play in any official match for his Belgium side, was given a shot in front of the watching Anderlecht boss Vincent Kompany.
 
The Belgian side standing sixth on the Jupiler Pro-League log after only one win from their first four matches played.

 

The former Hereford attacker, who scored a total of 21 goals in 109 appearances for Danish club AGF Aarhus from 2016 to 2020, played the first 45th minute of the match.

Kompany’s men will take on Cercle Brugge in their next game of the season.

Debutant Daramy nets Denmark winner over Germany

  • Mohamed Daramy capped an impressive debut for Denmark U19 side with the winning goal over their German counterparts on Thursday 3 September 2020.
  • Playing for the first time as a Danish national, the FC Copenhagen striker winner came in the 69th minute after substitute Oliver Sorensen Jensen had levelled the scoreline in the 65th minute.

The host side took the lead in the third-minute through Jamie Leweling in a competitive friendly at the Edmund-Plambeck Stadium in Norderstedt in Germany.

 
The young attacker has waited a long time for his chance in Danish colours as the dream came true for FC Copenhagen’s 18-year-old sensation.
 
Daramy, hailing from Sierra Leonean parents was congratulated by his club FC Copenhagen on their Facebook page. “Congratulations to Daramy on the victory and goal in his debut for the Danish national team.”
 
In October for the Elite Round of the 2019/20 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, Daramy will have another chance to play for Denmark when they will host one of the groups.

Ahead of Salone ties, Nigeria to face Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia in October

Sierra Leone’s Group L opponent, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have announced two friendly matches against Cote d’Ivoire and Tunisia in Austria next month.

Ahead of Sierra Leone double-header, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick has confirmed that the Super Eagles would face Cote d’Ivoire on October 9 and four days later take on Tunisia.

The continental football body, CAF last month confirmed November for the resumption of the AFCON qualifiers in the race to Cameroon 2022.

While the Super Eagles of Nigeria will end their 10-month wait from international football next month, Sierra Leone waits for top International friendly continues.

The Leone Stars last match was a 1-0 defeat to the Squirrels of Benin in Matchday two of the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers in November 2019.

Nigeria is expected to host Sierra Leone at the 22,000 seated Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba before travelling to Freetown for the return fixture set for Freetown Siaka Steven Stadium.

The Super Eagles are leading Group L after their opening two victories against Benin and Lesotho. The Squirrels of the Benin Republic standing second followed by Lesotho.

Keeper Trye happy with good start after third straight win

  • Scarborough keeper John Trye has praised the club for making a good start in the new campaign after winning their opening three matches.
  • The Sierra Leone International shot-stopper won his first career title with the club last season in the Canadian soccer league.

Scarborough SC, the reigning CSL champions have started where they left off last season with a quick start thrashing Hamilton City 7-2, down Vortuka 1-0 last Sunday and a 4-2 victory over Brentford Galaxy on Wednesday.

Trye speaking after Wednesday win said: “We have got a good group ready to challenge again for the title. It was important to start the new season the way we have started, but it is also vital to maintain the winning mentality, as defending champions.”

“We have been clinical in front of goal so far, and if we keep winning matches, we can replicate last season,” Trye told FSL News.

Scarborough next outing is against Serbian Whtie Eagles on Sunday 13th September a win will see Trye’s side extend their 100% start of the season.

Trye has made two appearances for Sierra Leone A national team Leone Stars against Nigeria in a friendly game in Lagos and the Democratic Republic of Congo in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kinshasa respectively.
 
In other matches, Trye has served as a reserve goalkeeper for the Leone Stars’ in including Lesotho and Benin during the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Quee was an unused substitution in Breiðablik Europa League first-round qualifier against Rosenborg in Norway last Thursday.
 
The Sierra Leone international prior to his Breiðablik move spent the last two season at Víkingur Ólafsvík in Iceland where he scored 17 goals.
 
“Vikingur’s football division has reached an agreement with Breiðablik’s football division on a loan agreement for Kwame Quee for the current season.”
 
“The Vikings expect a lot from Kwame and welcome him to the Vikings again,” the club said in a statement.
 
He has had spells with Doutcher United, where he started his career, Sierra Rangers, Papa jack FC before joining FC Johansen in 2009.

Attacker Josh Koroma gives verdict after six-goal thriller against United

  • Sierra Leone native Josh Koroma scored the leveller from outside the box against Manchester United’s Under-23 in their pre-season tie on Saturday.
  • The former Leyton Orient attacker was delighted to be working under new coach Carlos Corberán.

Huddersfield Town forward Josh Koroma was part of the side that shared six goals with Manchester United’s Under-23s in an entertaining pre-season friendly at The John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

In his post-match interview, Koroma expressed his delight after he rescued his side from defeat.

Koroma, who looked a threat from the right-wing throughout was key to Town’s come-back after the Reds’ youngsters had raced into an early 2-0 lead.

“It was very competitive. We went 2-0 unfortunate down, we could have gone under, but we didn’t. I think a draw was a fair result,” Koroma to club’s website.

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Rotherham United, Josh has returned to Town this summer and featured in both of the Terriers’ pre-season outings, adding 65 minutes against United to the 45 he completed in midweek.

The young forward was happy to get more minutes and provide some goal contributions ahead of next weekend’s season opener against Rochdale.

“You always want to be scoring and assisting as an attacker. I’m just happy that I can help the team and hopefully, I can kick on from here.”

Koroma, 21 will be hoping he be part of Town’s opening game of the 2020/21 season, that Carabao Cup First Round tie against the Dale on Saturday.

The match will also be new Head Coach Carlos Corberán first competitive game in charge.
