Kei Kamara takes MLS tally to 129 regular-season goals

Kei Kamara takes MLS tally to 129 regular-season goals

  • Kei Kamara scored a header in the 81st minute as he rescued the Colorado Rapids to a 1-1 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night.
  • Chris Wondolowski scored on a penalty kick for the Earthquakes in the 59th minute before Sierra Leone’s Kamara scored the leveller after he was introduced.

The goal took his tally to 129th MLS regular-season goal, placing him fifth on the all-time scoring charts and 32 goals behind MLS’s all-time leading scorer, San Jose’s 37-year-old Chris Wondolowski, who scored the opening goal of the match on a penalty kick.

“I think with Kei you have to start with genetics,” Rapids coach Robin Fraser said. “He’s obviously physically gifted. At his age, he’s as strong as can be.

He’s still fast, good timing, good jumper. He’s definitely blessed with good genes. And he takes very good care of himself. On top of that, he’s become a student of the game as he’s gone through it for so long. So, if you’re an intelligent player and you take care of yourself, and you have good genes, you can have a long career.”

Osman Kakay bags first QPR’s goal in defeat at Plymouth

  • Sierra Leone right-back Osman Kakay suffered a better-sweet experienced after Queen Park Rangers lost 3-2 against Plymouth Argyle in their EFL Cup first-round knockout tie.

Ryan Manning had open the scoring for the QPR after just 68 seconds after headed home from a corner from Llias Chair. However, half-hour later the host responded through Joe Edwards to make it 1 all.

Kakay, 23, registered his first senior goal that draws Rangers level straight after they fell behind early in the second half.

After Danny Mayor‘s shot from just inside the box beat keeper Joe Lumley in the 55th minutes, Kakay thumped home a cracking right-footed strike two-minute later.

Rangers might well have gone on to win the tie but the decisive moment came 12 minutes from time when QPR was punished for more sloppy work at the back.

Dom Telford was given space to cross from the left to unchallenged Frank Nouble, who stretched to volley in from close range to down Rangers.
