Attacking midfielder Kallon nets four goals in Cambuur big victory

  • In-form midfielder Issa Kallon registered four goals in SC Cambuur big 5-2 win over Jong Utrecht on Friday.
  • The win strengthened their grip moving the last season league leaders up to third.

SC Cambuur proved too strong as they continued to build on their success last season.

The Sierra Leone native opened the scoring in the 40th minutes before adding three more in the 44th, 54th, and 86th minutes respectively.

He was named to the Eerste Divisie week two Team of the Week after his excellent performance in their 7-1 thrashing over MVV Maastricht.

Kallon hailing from Sierra Leonean parents, Kallon, 24, has shown lots of promise that he has what it takes to hit the back of the net for the Leone Stars.

Last season, he made 22 appearances registered six goals and accounted for eight assists helping his Dutch side top of the 2019/2020 season before covid-19 halted football around the world.

New EE Lions boss Sillah optimistic over top job challenge

  • Newly appointed East End Lions head coach Ibrahim Sillah says he is optimistic about his first senior coaching challenge.
  • Sillah, who is qualified CAF A Licence, confided to this medium that late legendary Ismael Dyfan was his mentor.
  • The 1989 Sierra Leone FA winner as a right-back with the East End giant club is now in charge of is keen to succeed.

Speaking days after his appointment, Sillah is unfazed after taking over one of the top jobs in the Sierra Leone Premier League.

“I want to thank the club elders’ committee, Chairman Ambassador Junior Navo, Vice Chairman Ahmed Gento Kamara, the executives, and the fan club, for their trust in me,” Sillah appreciated his employers.

“My appointment came as a shock, but I am 100% determined to repay their trust. My aims and objectives are clear. I want to succeed in the League and take this club to continental competitions,” he passionately told FSL UK.

“I’ll love to help this club competing in a CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup tournament in the coming years. Taking East End Lions to any of these competitions is a challenge I am relishing.” 

The former right-back added, “East End Lions a great football club, with a great history. After meeting with my technical staffs, we’ll work out how we can continue to develop players.”

Sillah, 50, is not a stranger within the football fraternity in the country. The former Mount Aureal local star started coaching with Golf Leopard a first division side 2007 before moving to Regent Olympics in 2008.

He was also part of the FC Johansen U16 side that won the U16 tournament in Switzerland unbeatable 2011. The same year as an assistant, he helped to qualified FC Johansen from the first division to the top-tier League. 

Coach Sillah, who was an assistant to Bobson at FC Johansen in 2009, earned his first certificate CAF C Licence in 2010, CAF B in 2016 before completing his CAF A in 2017.  

The easy-going technician will be hoping to tap from a wealth of experience acquired from Derrick Boison, Lamin Bangura, and John Keister. Under Keister, he won the 2019 season undefeated. 

At present, sports, football-related activities are suspended in the country, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Minnesota boss Heath lauds Kei Kamara after debut defeat

  • Sierra Leone’s MLS journeyman Kei Kamara made his debut for Minnesota United in 2-1 defeat against former club Columbus Crew on Wednesday. 

Goals from Lucas Zelarayan and Pedro Santos scored in each half to ensured Columbus Crew SC take maximum points over Minnesota United at MAPFRE Stadium.

Speaking in his post-match interview, head coach Adrian Heath was pleased with the Major League Soccer fifth all-time top scorer.

“His hold-up play is something that we’ve been lacking. Just having a big body up there to get a hold of things. You know, I don’t think that we gave it to him enough, early enough, played it to his feet and followed but that’s something that we can work on,” he told club’s website.”

“Kei is a veteran. Very good. He’s a great locker room guy, in just this trip already. He’s all about team camaraderie, and he gives the young guys some tips like, ‘Hey this is how we could communicate better.’ I think it was a good start, playing with him today and I think it can only get better from here.”

Kamara on his debut; “It was a tough day, and I am just happy I was able to get out there with the boys and give my best.”

Sierra Leone line up Mauritania friendly in Nouakchott

  • Sierra Leone will play Mauritania in a friendly international October 9th in Nouakchott with FIFA and CAF approval.

The SLFA says they have reached an agreement with their Mauritanian counterpart and the tie will serve as a warm-up for November’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria.

The continental football body, CAF last month confirmed November for the resumption of the AFCON qualifiers in the race to Cameroon 2022.

The Leone Stars last match was a 1-0 defeat to the Squirrels of Benin in Matchday two of the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers in November 2019.

Nigeria is expected to host Sierra Leone at the 22,000 seated Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba before travelling to Freetown for the return fixture set for Freetown Siaka Steven Stadium.

The Super Eagles are leading Group L after their opening two victories against Benin and Lesotho. The Squirrels of the Benin Republic standing second followed by Lesotho.

The Leone Stars will travel to tackle the Eagles of Nigeria November 9th before hosting the three-time African champions in Freetown 17th, as they bid to reach next Afcon in Cameroon.

Head coach John Keister has already started his preparation with the home-based after rallied over 51 local stars pending Government lifting ban on football activities in the country.

Augustus Kargbo makes Serie A debut as Genoa cruise to win

Augustus Kargbo was introduced in the 58th minute for FC Crotone to bookmark his first-ever appearance on the biggest stage of Italian club football.

Genoa dominated as they displaced class over their counterparts with a comfortable 4-1 win over newly-promoted FC Crotone at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Sunday.

Mohamed Kallon completes UEFA Pro Licence in Italy

Former Inter Milan and Monaco striker Mohamed Kallon completed his UEFA Pro Licence at the Museo del Calcio in Florentina, Italy on Tuesday. 

The former Sierra Leone soccer idol was among the newly qualified coaches trained by Federation Italian Giuoco Calci, FIGC.

A UEFA Pro Licence is a mandatory qualification for all first-team managers who want to work in top-tier world football dugouts.

Kallon, who completed his Uefa A in 2018, was alongside Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo named in a comprehensive list of coaches that have completed the Pro master training course at the Italian Football Museum at the Museo del Calcio in Florentina.

The FC Kallon owner has added to his huge list of coaching badges, CAF B, US Soccer Federation B, US Soccer Federation A, UEFA B, UEFA A, and Sports Administration 2020.

During the final exam, all qualified coaches took oral exams for the individual subjects on football technique and tactics, communication, psychology, medicine and training methodology before discussing their thesis in front of the director of the Coaching School, Renzo Ulivieri.
