Osman Kakay wins September Player of the Month award

  • Sierra Leone’s Osman Kakay has been voted Queens Park Rangers’ Player of the Month for September.
  • The right-back has been impressive under boss Mark Warburton who recently admitted he was pleased with the emergence of his defender.

Kakay, who is also named in the Sierra Leone squad for friendly test against Mauritania on October 9 in Nouakchott, scored his first senior QPR’s goal in 3-2 against Plymouth Argyle in their EFL Cup first-round knockout tie.

The-23-year-old fought off tough competition from Tom Carrol, Lyndon Dykes and Bright Osayi-Samuel.

New Coventry City deal for Sierra Leone’s Fankaty Dabo

  • The 24-year-old right-back has signed a new three-year deal with the Sky Blues until 2023, having established himself as a first-team regular.

 

  • He initially joined Coventry City in the summer of 2019 from Chelsea and made a total of 41 appearances helping the club to English Championship promotion and League One title.

Dabo, who is a Sierra Leonean descent, won the Coventry 2019/2020 Family Zone player of the Year.

He climbed through the ranks, signed his first professional contract at Chelsea before move out on loan to Swindon Town 2017.

The following season, he spent a season-long loan with Dutch side Vitesse, where he made five appearances in the Europa League.

The defender returned to Holland for the 2018/19 season, this time joining Sparta Rotterdam, before moving to the Sky Blues, signing a three-year deal.

“He is an influential player for us both on and off the pitch, he impressed hugely in his first season with us and is also a popular player with our supporters.

  • Serie A side FC Crotone announced on Tuesday that Sierra Leone star striker Augustus Kargbo will return to Serie B side AC Reggiana 1919 until the end of the season with a redemption clause.
  • Having helped the Reggiana 1919 gain promotion to Serie B, Kargbo, 21, has admitted he was pleased with his return.
  • The striker, who made his Serie A debut in 4-1 defeat at Genoa says he ‘its feels like home at Reggio Emilia City.’

It was his winning goal over Bari at the Mapei Stadium Città del Tricolore in the Serie C playoff final on July 22 helped Reggiana gain Serie B promotion.

The goal was his tenth in twenty-four appearances while on loan last season.

“I was pleased, it’s really nice to be back at my second home with the lads,” Kargbo to FSL UK.

He made his debut return on Wednesday in the second round of the Copa Italia in 4-3 shot out win over Monopoli after a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes.

“I was also happy with my Serie A debut, but I came back at the right time because I started a good course here now I am looking forward to continuing where I left off last season.”

Williams takes tally to 12 as LA Galaxy II book playoff spot

  • A brace for Sierra Leone-born Augustine Williams and a goal from Jorge Hernández were enough as LA Galaxy II clinched a second-consecutive USL Championship Playoffs.
 
Williams has taken his tally to 12 goals in Galaxy II 3-1 victory over Orange County SC on Wednesday night at Dignity Health Sports Park.
 
The 23-year-old is also in the race for the USL golden boot with the second-highest goals in the USL Championship this season.
 
The in-form striker is one of the three new faces named by the Sierra Leone head coach John Keister for their first national assignment for October 9th friendly date in Mauritania.
 
In a brief chat with FSL, Williams said after his goals, “I can do all things as Christ strengthens me.”

Debutants: Williams, Kargbo, Wright in S/Leone squad for Mauritania test

  • Head coach John Keister has named three new players in his squad for Sierra Leone’s next month’s friendly test against Mauritania in Nouakchott on October 9th.
  • A total of 13 foreign-based has been summoned for the groundwork that will serve as a warm-up for November’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria.
  • Mauritania no more push-overs in African football after they qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in their history.

LA Galaxy II in-form striker Augustine Williams and Augustus Kargbo forward have received their first national call-up.

Williams, 23, who is in the race for USL Championship golden boot this season, has registered nine goals in 13 appearances this campaign surpassing his seven goals last season.

Kargbo, 21, who made his Serie A debut with FC Crotone in a 4-1 defeat against Genoa last weekend and was an unused substitute in 2-0 defeat to AC Milan on Sunday 27 September, scored the winner in Reggio Audace’s promotion to Serie B.

Finland-based midfielders Mohamed Medo Kamara and Rodney Strasser have been recalled to a national assignment.

Right-back Osman Kakay, who recently signed a new four-year deal with English Championship side Queens Park Rangers until 2024 named.

Former Chelsea academy graduate, Orebro SK left-back Kevin Wright, is expected to represent Sierra Leone for the first time if accepted the invitation.

The 24-year-old has played in 19 matches for the in Swedish Allsvenskan this season and was part of Orebro Saturday’s 2-1 win over Sirius.

20-year-old Alhassan Koroma, who was part of the Sierra Leone side against Iran in a friendly in Tehran on March 17, 2018, and was part of the Sierra Leone U20 side during the WAFU tournament in Liberia, has also been included.

Koroma, trading with Real Balompédica a Spanish third-tier has been pivotal since joining the club in July 2019.

Leone Stars’ last match was a 1-0 defeat to the Squirrels of Benin in Matchday two of the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers in November 2019.
