FUFA asks former Sierra Leone boss Mckinstry to step aside

  • Former Sierra Leone coach Johnny McKinstry has been asked by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) to step aside for this month’s qualifiers.
The Northern Irishman who has been in the job since 2019 has been asked to step aside for a 23-day period as Fufa assesses its options.

Uganda aiming to qualify for their third consecutive Nations Cup finals as they prepared to host leaders Burkina-Faso on March 22 before travelling to Malawi for their final Group B match.

FUFA authorities have not been impressed with Cranes performance after their 1-0 defeat to lowly South Sudan back in November at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi, Kenya.

FUFA says assistant Coaches Mr Mubiru Abdallah, Mr Mbabazi Livingstone and goalkeeping coach Mr Kajoba Fred will take charge of the team during this period.

“The rest of the Technical team remains unchanged. Fufa will use the period to assess and monitor the performance of the team.”

Uganda must win one of their remaining two games if they are to qualifier as they are second in Group E on seven points, one behind Burkina Faso. Malawi have four and South Sudan three with the group-wide open ahead of the final two qualifying fixtures.
