Véron Mosengo-Omba will leave his role as Chief Officer of the FIFA member associations (MAs) division with immediate effect to take on the position of CAF General Secretary.
Mr Mosengo-Omba initially joined FIFA in 2016 as Chief Member Associations Officer with responsibility for Africa and the Caribbean, and subsequently spent the past two years supporting all FIFA 211 MAs to implement the FIFA Forward development programme, as well as managing relationships with all FIFA MAs and continental confederations in his role as Chief Officer of the division.
A native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mr Mosengo-Omba was particularly involved in supporting the 54 African MAs in their FIFA Forward projects, in the development of youth and women’s football throughout the continent, and in the recent implementation of the FIFA Covid-19 Relief Plan.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino and FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura issued a joint statement expressing their gratitude for the work that Mr Mosengo-Omba has overseen at FIFA.
“On behalf of all of FIFA, we would like to thank Véron Mosengo-Omba for his excellent work and wish him the very best of luck in his next challenge as CAF General Secretary,” it read. “FIFA also looks forward to working with him on future projects in helping to project African football to the summit of world football.”

- Confederation of African Football, CAF has open the door to Sierra Leone to host their final African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Benin at home.
- Officially, the contest is taken place in Freetown at the capital Brookfields deteriorated stadium instead of Guinea’s Stade Du 28 Septembre on March 30.
CAF says its reversed decision is due to ‘Covid-19 travel restrictions’ as they have decided to lift the ban on Sierra Leone Freetown capital stadium on exception.
Almost two weeks ago, the Confederation of African Football, CAF barred the capital stadium from staging foreign matches till it is up to International standards.
The Leone Stars goalless draw against Nigeria has exposed the reckless and fragile state of the Siaka Steven Stadium, many soccer pundits believe.
After the Nigeria game last year, we understand Caf warned the SLFA to improve facilities at the stadium, but little has been done since.
The Brookfields Stadium was built in 1979 and has been in existence for over 40 years.
FIFA suspended the venue in 1992 for one year due to overcrowding. The Leone Stars had to use the 28th September Stadium in neighbouring Guinea to play host to Senegal and Togo in qualifiers for the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations.
In March 2008, FIFA banned the said venue due to poor dressing rooms and a sub-standard pitch.
In February 2017, the Presidential Pavilion of the Siaka Stevens Stadium was given a facelift with 950 chairs installed as part of the upgrade to an all-seater international standard.

Former Sierra Leone International Ernest Kamara has said he is pleased with the news of his appointment as Leone Stars new kit manager.
SLFA says all appointees expected to start work effective immediately.
His appointment comes almost a month after breaking his silence on the BBC, where he talks about how his playing career ended in disappointment.
Kamara was a pivotal player in the team when he fractured his right leg in October 2003 during Sierra Leone’s joint 2006 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo in Brazzaville.
The injury forced him to end his bright career abruptly.
“I am happy, to be honest, no one will be appointed to serve their national team and not be pleased,” Kamara told FSL News.
He went further to praise the Sierra Leone Football Association and the importance of his appointment.
Kamara, who made his first senior in a 2-0 away defeat to Sao Tome & Principe, said, ” I want to thank the SLFA for this appointment. I suffered a lot, and this appointment is a step further.
“I want to thank everyone for their support, and I wish God will put blessings into whatever I am going to do around the National team.”
In another development, SLFA confirmed Bo Rangers team manager Babadi Kamara as the new Leone Stars team manager.
