Former Sierra Leone coach Johnny Mckinstry has confirmed leaving his role as Uganda head coach.
Northern Irishman, who was appointed in 2019 on a three-year contract, was asked to step aside ahead of Cranes final Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last month.
Mckinstry confirmed that he has reached an agreement with FUFA to leave his role as Head Coach of the Uganda men’s national team.
“It has been my pleasure to work with dedicated staff and players to develop the Uganda Cranes since 2019 – a period that saw us win 2 in every 3 games, recording a 67% WIN rate – including 12 wins, 3 draws and only 3 defeats across our time together,” he posted on his official website.
Mckinstry was expected to qualify Uganda for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, but they failed in the race.
Under his supervision, Uganda started brilliantly in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers when they top Group B with a win over Malawi and a draw with Burkina Faso. However, their 1-0 defeat to lowly rated South Sudan at the Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi, ignited FUFA’s decision.

Fornah, who can be best described as a hostile watchdog in defence, departed Sierra Leone in 2005 to join Al-Saida in Lebanon.
“I am so excited to be back, ready to give my best in this level again and can’t wait to get started,” the 34-year-old told FSL News.

“New team, but determine as everyone at the club working on helping the team achieve a top-five position on debut season which will be a great success.”

Thirteen months after the 2019-20 season was declared null, a new Sierra Leone Premier League campaign gets underway on Friday – with 306 matches to play over the next three-month.
Bai Bureh Warriors, Sierra Leone Police outfit, SLIFA Mount Aureol and Wusum Stars FC join the traditional 14 teams.
There are three opening matches spread across the day of the new season, two kicking-off at 16:15 local time with FC Kallon hosting Ports Authority in the day’s evening kicking off at the Siaka Steven Stadium.
For the first time in the country’s history, eighteen teams, including some traditional names, will race for the title in a one-round league format.
Newly promoted Sierra Leone Police side entertain East End Tigers on Friday at Kingtom Police field as Anti-Drugs Strikers welcome debutant SLIFA Mount Aureol in an eye-catching contest.
Anti-Drugs were the last team to win 2-0 against Freetown City FC before last season was cancelled.
Another mouthwatering showdown is Bai Bureh Warriors at home against one of Sierra Leone’s most decorated side Mighty Blackpool at the Port Loko playing field on Saturday.
On Sunday, Wusum Stars in the photo look to start brightly against the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces outfit RSLAF in Makeni as big spenders Bo Rangers in for a cracker hosting East End Lions.
Impressive Bo Rangers were top of the league table with 23 points from 13 matches played during the first half of the 2019/20 campaign before it was halted due to covid 19.
The new format will see each of the eighteen teams play seventeen games as was unanimously agreed by the Premier League Board (PLB) in consultation with the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
