Sudan completes first training in Yaoundé ahead of Ethiopia test

After their arrival on Tuesday, Sudan completed their first training session in Yaoundé in preparation for Ethiopia friendly.

The Falcons of Jediane (Sudan) became the second nation to arrive in Cameroon on December 28 via Ethiopia Airlines.

“The national team performed its first training in Yaoundé camp on Tuesday evening in preparation for Ethiopia friendly on December 30, at 3:30 pm,” the Sudanese Media team confirmed.

They are expected to stay in Yaoundé for up to six days before travelling to the Northern part of the country, where they will play their group matches. 

The Sudanese National team will compete in Group D against Nigeria, Egypt and Guinea Bissau.

The Falcons of Jediane will open their Afcon campaign against Guinea Bissau on January 11 at the Stade Roumdé Adjia, Garoua, before taking on Nigeria (January 15) and Egypt (January 19) in group D of the tournament finals.

Defender Sesay set to join Sierra Leone Afcon squad – Wealdstone

Wealdstone have confirmed defender David Sesay will fly out tomorrow to meet up with the rest of his Sierra Leone national teammates.

Sesay, 23, was named in coach John Keister 40-man provisional squad ahead of the tournament in Cameroon next month.

“Due to injury and recent postponements, David has yet to make his Stones debut, but nonetheless, we wish him and his Sierra Leone teammates all the best as they bid to make history and as he represents the club on a global stage,” the Stones said in a statement.

Sierra Leone’s first game is against holders Algeria at the Japoma Stadium in the Cameroonian capital of Douala on 11th January.

Seasy is expected to make the Sierra Leone final 28-man squad that will compete against holders Algeria, Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea,

David will hopefully be competing up against the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Wilfried Zaha.

Juan Micha Obiang names his Equatorial Guinea final squad

Equatorial Guinea Nzalang’s head coach Juan Micha Obiang has named his 28-man final squad for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations next month’s in Cameroon.

They will compete against Algeria, Sierra Leone and Côte d’Ivoire in Group E for a place in the round of 16.

Obiang’s side will open their campaign against the Ivory Coast at the Stade de Japoma, Douala, on January 12 before taking on holders Algeria on the 16th.

Their final group tie is against Sierra Leone at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium on January 20. It is their 3rd appearance at the continental showpiece after 2012 and 2015.

Obiang team includes experienced players like goalkeeper Jesus Owono, Iban Salvador Edu and Emilio Nsue Lopez. 

The most notable absence is Pedro Obiang. The Sassuolo midfielder is away since last August due to myocarditis.

AFCON: Ethiopia’s Walia ibex first to arrive in Cameroon

Ethiopia’s Walia Ibex is the first team to arrive in Cameroon for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2021 finals.

The continental showpiece will kick off on the 9th of January 2022. Ethiopia will start their campaign at the Stade d’Olembé, Yaoundé, against Cape Verde on the same day. 

Ethiopia is in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and hosts Cameroon. The delegation touched down at the Nsimalen International Airport of Yaounde on Sunday, 26 December.

Upon arrival, players, technical staff and FA executive underwent Covid-19 tests at the airport before moving to their team hotel.

The Walias return to the competition for the first time since 2013. They won the 1962 AFCON title when they hosted the tournament.

Holders Algeria rally troops to defend Afcon title

The technical department of the Algeria Football Federation has named their final list for next month’s African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Head coach Djamel Belmadi named key players like Sofiane FeghouliIslam SlimaniRiyad Mahrez, West Ham Saïd Benrahma and others in his 28-man squad. 

The Desert Foxes will compete in Group E against the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea. They will open their defence against Sierra Leone on January 11th at the Japoma Stadium.

It will be their 19th AFCON appearance – they won the trophy beating Senegal 1-0 in 2019.

They scored 19 goals in the qualifiers, more than any other team. Baghdad Bounedjah, who was the scorer of the 2019 AFCON final winner, was listed. He was their top scorer with four goals.

Wilfried Zaha, Sébastien Haller to lead Ivory Coast Afcon squad

Fédération Ivoirienne de Football has named Wilfried Zaha and Ajax top striker Sébastien Haller in head coach Patrice Beaumelle final sqaud for next month AFCON in Cameroon.

The Crystal Palace man missed out on the World Cup qualifier decider against Cameroon.

His compatriot, Haller presently the top Champions League scorer with ten goals from his six games for Ajax.

Nickname: Les Elephants (The Elephants) the Ivorian side will be making their 24th AFCON appearance since 1965.

They will kick off their campaign against Equatorial Guinea at the Japoma Stadium on January 12th in Douala before taking on Sierra Leone and Algeria on 16th and 20th, respectively.
