On Wednesday, FC Johansen makes it a back to back victories after their one-goal win over the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces soccer team.

FC Johansen goal came in the 80th minute from the penalty spot. Abdul Kamara converted as they move up to eight on the log for the first time this season.

Their first victory was against Old Edwardians at the Siaka Steven Stadium on last Friday.

A brace from Melvin Davies in the 47th and 58th minutes respectively were enough to ensure they grabbed maximum points.

Davies was named Man of the Match by the league’s technical observers.

Fofanah has played in their last five fixtures since joining after a spell with Danish third-tier side Boldklubben 1893.

FC Johansen clinch first league victory with win over Edwards

FC Johansen finally recorded their first win of the season as they claimed a deserved 2-0 victory over Old Edwardians at the Siaka Steven Stadium on Friday.

A brace from Melvin Davies in the 47th and 58th minutes respectively were enough to ensure they grabbed maximum points after their seventh league matches.

Davies was named Man of the Match by the league’s technical observers.

As a result, they moved up to ninth above Old Edwardians nine points adrift of league leaders Kamboi Eagles at least for another 24 hours.

Elsewhere, On Thursday, the only female technician in the Sierra Leone Premier League registered her second win of the season. 

Victoria Conteh guided her side to a vital 1-0 win over Freetown City Council. The only goal was scored by Philip Neville who was named Man of the Match as East End Tigers moved up to third.

On Saturday, big spenders Bo Rangers will face reigning champions East End Lions in another cracker contest.

The Southern Province side in Freetown to rock the East End giants party.

A win for coach Konneh’s side will see them move back to the second spot after seven matches played.

Johansen joins female leaders at Africa’s World Football Summit

The Sierra Leone Football Association president, Isha Johansen, will join inspiring female and football administrators in this year’s Africa’s World Football Summit in South Africa.

President of the CAF Women’s Committee, Johansen, a Fifa Associations Committee member, a sitting member of the Confederation of African Football’s executive committee, will be a speaker.

WFS Africa will take place on March 17th and 18th in Durban, South Africa.

WFS is the international event of the football industry, gathering the most influential professionals to discuss the most relevant topics and generate business opportunities.

The SLFA’s boss and head coach of South Africa’s women’s national team, Desiree Ellis, alongside FIFA Secretary General, Fatma Samoura, KwaZulu Natal Sports MEC, Hlengiwe Mavimbela, Sports Connect Africa CEO Cynthia Mumbo, Malaika founder Noëlla Coursaris Musunka, will be discussing among other topics, women’s football in Africa at the summit.

Afro Visionary Legacy founder, Lebogang Chaka, Bresmar Investment Ltd Director Brenda Kunda and Aseanchi Director of Sports business Yvonne Namai are all expected to attend.

Windfall for President Bio’s Free Quality Education from Chelsea defender

  • Sierra Leonean native Antonio Rudiger has splashed $101,000 on President Maada Bio Free Quality Education initiative.

An initiative that was set up, aiming to support over two million children in primary and secondary schools.

Rudiger hailing from Sierra Leonean parents in Germany donated in London during the UK-Africa Investment summit.

“Sierra Leone is my home. I’m not the talking type of a person, I am about action,” the 26-year-old told President Bio.

The Chelsea defender added, “You can count on us and do not hesitate. We are here to support your vision and agenda, especially on education. I am ready to take on my responsibility to change the narrative and image of Sierra Leone.”

“The narrative about Sierra Leone must change. It is the duty of every Sierra Leonean out in the diaspora to come on board with the rebranding process,” the President insisted.

He thanked Rudiger for the donation and assured him that the funds would be transparently utilised for the intended purpose, he also welcomed him and his team to audit the proper use of the funds at any time.

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Education, Dr Moinina David Sengeh, thanked Rüdiger and his team for the confidence they had reposed in the government, and the support to the free quality education. 

Minister Sengeh explained that every fund was directed to meet strategic plans of the ministry, adding that every decision made for the allocation of funds was also informed by data to enhance delivery and achieve results.

Sierra Leone confirms new date for WAFU Women’s Cup

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has announced 25 February-7 March 2020 as the date to host the much-awaited West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Cup which was postponed last year.

Bo and Makeni are the second and third largest cities in Sierra Leone have been confirmed by the SLFA as the two venues for the competition. Both cities boast of stadia with seating capacities of 10,000, and 25,000 spectators respectively.

Eleven other nations will travel to Sierra Leone to compete for the championship.

The tournament was initially scheduled for 13-22 December 2019, but was postponed by WAFU “due to logistical concerns”.

And, as part of the build-up to the competition Liberia Women’s Team drew 2-2 with their Sierra Leone counterparts in Makeni in a tournament during the festive month of December.
