Ports Authority stun Bo Rangers to open title race

Ports Authority stun Bo Rangers to open title race

Ports Authority has thrown a spanner in the Sierra Leone Premier League title race with a 1-0 victory over League leaders Bo Rangers on Saturday.

The ‘Waterfront boys’ goal came in the 42nd-minute through Mohamed Bangura at the Bo City Stadium.

A result that has elevated title contenders, East End Lions and FC Kallon hopes as both teams looking to show that they still have a taste for a title chase.

Ports Authority victory was widely celebrated by their fans. The result moved them up to twelve on the log on 25 points.

East End Lions, who will battle FC Kallon on Sunday at the Wusum Ground in Makeni, closed to within three points to go above their title rival Bo Rangers.

A win for FC Kallon will see them move within four points of the top with thirteen crucial matches to go in the race for the title.

Elsewhere on Saturday, FC Johansen defeated Freetown City FC by a goal to nil at the Wusum playing field in Makeni as Anti-Drugs played to a barren draw against Diamond Stars at the Freetown Approve School field.

Sierra Leone close stadium for $40m rehabilitation

Sierra Leone close stadium for $40m rehabilitation

The government of Sierra Leone has launched a $40 million rehabilitation project for the Freetown-based National Stadium.

The project, which is expected to be completed by 2024, is being carried out by a Chinese construction company and will transform every aspect of the stadium.

The stadium, which was completed in 1979, is the only venue in the country that can host international matches for all national teams.

According to Thomas Daddy Brima, the head of the Sierra Leone Football Association, the stadium’s renovation is a long-awaited development.

The stadium has been in a state of disrepair for some time and was banned by the Confederation of African Football in February 2021, following an international match between Sierra Leone and Nigeria. The renovation will allow Sierra Leone to play their home matches at the stadium once again.

While the renovation work is underway, local premier league matches will continue to be played at other venues across the country. However, Sierra Leone will have to play their 2023 Nations Cup home qualifiers on the road, most likely in Guinea Conakry, where they defeated Benin in June 2020 to reach the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Tarawalie nets hat-trick as Kallon return to winning ways

Salliue Tarawalie scored a hattrick in the first half, Hassan Milla Koroma and Mohamed G Sesay scored in the second half as FC Kallon recorded a comfortable 5-0 win over Anti-Drugs in the Sierra Leone Premier League on Friday at Wusum playing field.

The club fans got an effective response after their team had lost to Freetown City and Diamond Stars, respectively, in their previous two outings.

However, Friday’s result elevated the Kallon boys to third on the log at least for a day until after Saturday’s matches.

The season continues today with four matches across the country. Police FC to battle it out with Bai Bureh Warriors as Freetown City outfit face East End Lions.

Other matches are RSLAF host Wusum Stars, Diamond Stars ready for Bo Rangers, and Mount Aureol SlIFA lock horns with Central Parade as Kamboi Eagles welcome East End Tigers.

Kwame Nketiah registered the only goal for the away side to ensure a second straight loss for the Cavaliers in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League season.

As a result, Kallon FC has slipped down to eighth in the pecking other after the two disappointing results.

Not many will have fancied the Freetown City side to overcome their counterpart as this result moved them up to fifth on the log.

On Monday, away from home against Diamond Stars, Kallon FC suffered a 2-1 defeat in Koidu before their home slumber.

The season continues today with two matches across the country. Bo Rangers will take on Bai Bureh Warriors as Anti-Drugs hosts Ole Edwardians.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Ports Authority and Kamboi Eagles played to a goalless draw in Freetown.

Bottom team Police arrest Bo Rangers in Freetown

Bottom team Police arrest Bo Rangers in Freetown

Sierra Leone Premier League basement team Police FC stunned big money spenders Bo Rangers in the ongoing season at the Siaka Steven Stadium on Saturday.

The home team tamed their visitors taking home maximum points after their 1-0 win against tough opposition.

The only goal was scored by Alpha Kanu in the 13th minute when he picked up a ball and struck it to an empty net following what looks like an error from Bo Rangers debutant keeper Ibrahim Sesay.

The Southern Province giant was coming into the tie expected to extend their lead after Central Parade 1-1 draw with East End Lions on Friday.

The result means no movement at the top. The rangers are still top of the table by a point ahead of the East End Lions.

The season will continue today, with early kickoffs (4:15 PM) – Bombali District top-tier side Wusum Stars locking horns with East End Tigers at Wusum Grounds.

SLIFA Mount Aureol battle it out with the Ports Authority at the Approved School field.

Freetown City FC host Mighty Blackpool at the Attouga Mini playing field; In Kenema, Kamboi Eagles take on Anti Drugs as Old Edwardians face FC Johansen in the evening contest at the Siaka Steven Stadium.

League restart excites Salone exceptional goalie at AFCON

League restart excites Salone exceptional goalie at AFCON

One of Sierra Leone outstanding players at the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Mohamed Kamara, says he is excited to restart local football with his club East End Lions.

The Killers is one of the most decorated football outfits in the country – they’re presently two points adrift from leaders Bo Rangers on the log.

Lions will resume their campaign as they lock horns against Central Parade on Friday at the Siaka Steven Stadium, a game Kamara will be hoping his side can win.

The 22-year-old was named Man of the Match in Sierra Leone draw with Algeria on January 11 at the Japoma Stadium, thanks to a brave display that saw him frustrate one of the tournament’s favourites.

He saved a vital spot-kick against the Ivory Coast that saw the Leone Stars rallied to a 2-2 draw at the Japoma Stadium.

“I have been working with the team since returning from the African Cup of Nations getting ready for the second phase of the season,” Kamara told FSL News.

“I have to be honest, I am excited after the AFCON, to start again fighting for the title in Sierra Leone. This is the league that makes me who I am today. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s game.”

A win will see the East End giant club go top until after Bo Rangers start their campaign against Sierra leone Police on Saturday.

Kamara helped East End Lions win the 2018/2019 season unbeaten, four points ahead of FC Kallon.
