Buya Turay targeting 2016/17 promotion challenge

Sierra Leone-born Mohamed Buya Turay, who has bagged 8 goals this season in 24 appearances for AFC United in the Swedish Superettan, is determined to try and help the club get into the Swedish top flight with five decisive games to go.

The 21-year-old, who has been very instrumental since his arrival in Sweden has yet to be recognised on an international level.

Turay has enjoyed productive spells at Juventus IF, Västerås SK and AFC United this season, scoring a total of 40 goals in as many games.

He scored an impressive brace for AFC United last Tuesday as they thrashed Degerfors 5-1 in the Swedish Superettan.

The fine responsive attacker made sure of the points in the 87th and 90th minutes respectively, powering home his side’s fourth and fifth goals.

AFC United are closing in on promotion, they are third and only three points adrift of league leaders Sirius.

“Promotion has got to be our target,” said Turay. “Everyone at the club is determined.”

“We’ve got to be looking to get promoted and get to the top of the Swedish radar where I think the club belongs.

“I’m really hopeful that we can achieve that come next season,” Turay told footballsierraleone.net.

“I’m happy with my development since I arrived in Sweden 3rd of January 2013, I have scored a total of 40 goals in all competitions between Juventus If, VSK and AFC United.”

Kei Kamara on target to help keep Revs playoff hopes alive

The Revolution are hoping to make late-season playoff pushes. And the team appears to be going in the right direction.

Kei Kamara scored his sixth goal of the season and the New England Revolution beat his former club Sporting Kansas City 3-1 on Saturday evening in the US to keep their playoff hopes alive.

“This time of the season is not a time where you can let your home points slip away,” said Kamara, whose opener gave the Revolution an early advantage in the fourth minute and assisted on Juan Agudelo’s insurance strike in the late stages.

“You’ve got to maximise your points at home and we definitely did that tonight.” Kamara was quoted as saying.

The Sierra Leone-born accounted for his sixth New England Revolution’s goal in this campaign to help keep their playoff hopes alive.

He scored his fifth goal and the Revs’ fastest goal this season in Major League Soccer club history since returning from international duty against Montreal on Sept. 17.

Kamara has now recorded 85 career goals and ranks fourth among active MLS players in goals scored, trailing only LA’s Landon Donovan (145), San Jose’s Chris Wondolowski (120), and FC Dallas’s Carlos Ruiz (88).

The Revs next MLS league game is on Sunday, Oct. 16 when the club travels to play the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park.

Recent Denizlispor Kulübü summer signing Alfred Sankoh, who has been regular for the Turkish TFF League one side says he is “enjoying life at Denizlispor’ and feels the team “is improving “.

Sankoh, 27, joined the Turkish second tier from Balıkesirspor as a free agent on a one-year deal and has settled straight in at Denizli, already featuring five times for the club.

The former Şanlıurfaspor midfielder is likely to be a key player for Denizlispor this season after helping the club to fifth position from five matches.

“I’m enjoying life at Denizlispor Kulübü and I can sense we as a team is improving as well,” He told footballsierraleone.net.

“We’ve only lost once in five matches, draw twice and two wins, so yeah I am enjoying my time here.”

However, the Leone Stars midfielder acknowledges is still too early in the season to determine anything.

“I must say we doing ok at the moment, but we must not forget is a very long season, so we have to wait and see by God’s power.”

Bundu, 19 joined the Danish Superliga side on a one-year loan deal with an option to extend his contract.

The first-team gaffer gave the youngster his chance and the Sierra Leone-born was delighted to be part of the squad.

A well-deserved 4-3 victory following a great comeback for AGF over AC Horsens and after the match Bundu told club’s TV: “It feels good, good game and good players.”

“It was nice to like play with some of the players and just to get going.”

“I thought in the first half we did not get our heads around the game, but in the second half we came out and tore them apart.”

When asked about his team-mates, he added: “They are very welcoming and they are very good players as well.”

Umaru Bangura has been ruled out of this Thursday’s Europa league tie due to a thumb injury.

The 28-year-old underwent a surgery on his left thumb finger last Tuesday and was given a three weeks recovery period.

Bangura, who was part of the FC Zurich’s side that suffered a 2-1 defeat in Spain to Villarreal in the first round of the Europa League ground stage, will certainly miss important league matches.

He was instrumental in the FC Zurich 2-0 cup victory over Bellinzona last Sunday at the Stadium Comunale.

They host Turkey’s Osmanlispor in a very important contest and following their 2-1 defeat at Villarreal on match-day one, Zürich have gone four games without a win in Europe.

The Swiss side (Zürich) qualified for this year’s Europa League competition as winners of the 2015/16 Swiss Cup but were relegated from the Swiss Super League in the same season.

Osmanlispor tops Group L after their impressive 2-0 thrashing over Romanian side FC Steaua București.

Bangura signed for the Swiss side on August 4, 2016, on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Sierra Leone international David Simbo was happy to help Yeni Amasyaspor to their 4-0 victory over Şubat Erzincan GK on Sunday.

The former Krumkachy Minsk defender, who signed for the Turkish side for an undisclosed fee in August, is completely focused on the task at hand after making his debut in Sunday’s win over Şubat Erzincan GK, and he’s happy to put any personal ambitions to one side.

Simbo told footballsierraleone.net, “It was important for me to keep my mind strong and work to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible. It was a good victory and I was delighted to be part of this group. I want to keep playing football that’s why I came here. No matter the club or division I am happy to keep playing football.”

The 26-year-old joined the Turkish side in a bid to rejuvenate his football career following lack of regular football in the Belarusian top flight.

He was very frustrated in Belarus before penned a one-year deal with the newly promoted side.
