Striker Kei Kamara has started the new campaign with a bang after scoring for Colorado Rapids in their 3-3 against Portland Timbers at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Kamara opened his account by tapping in a Kellyn Acosta cross in the opening 16th minutes on a day dubbed as the coldest “game” in the history of Major League Soccer.
Disappointedly for the home side, Axel Sjoberg was shown a red card for a handball in the box in the 27th minutes, to make matters worse the Timbers were awarded a penalty kick a few minutes later.
The spot kick was scored by Midfielder Diego Valeri scored before the half-hour mark after slotting home past Tim Haward a rebound of his own saved penalty kick.
Under difficult snowy weather conditions, Sebastian Blanco put Portland in front in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, hammering onto a Valeri corner and slipping a glancing header inside the far post.
Immediately after the restart, Benny Feilhaber scored his first goal for the Rapids and levelled it for the home team.
The Timbers were not ready to allow the host to take the maximum point as they regained their lead 20 minutes later when a sliding Deklan Wynne deflected Andy Polo’s cross into his own net.
However, Andre Shinyashiki last-gasp goal was enough to lift the 10-man Colorado Rapids to a 3-3 draw in their first game of the season.

Alhaji Kamara, 24, who last played for FC Sheriff in Moldova expressed his delight after joining Danish Superliga side Vendsyssel as a free agent.
The club has been looking for a prolific striker as they struggled in the top flight of Danish football.
“I’m happy and can’t wait to meet my new teammates. I have previously played in Sweden, so I know a little about Scandinavian football,” he told the club’s website.
The former Sheriff striker added, “What I know is that the Danish league is strong with some good teams that would like to play football. Personally, I hope that I can help the team by making goals.
“I am hard working and a team player, and I am really looking forward to helping us stay in the Super League,” Kamara noted.
The Allsvenskan winner since departing Swedish side Norrkoping has had spells with Johor Darul Takzim (loan), D.C. United, Richmond Kickers (loan), Al-Taawoun and Sheriff Tiraspol.
“Kamara is a really talented attacker who has previously proven that he can score goals. He has his forces in his timing in in-depth, his work in the field, and then he has a good main game despite his height,” Sports director explained.
“We hope and believe he can help us in the spring. However, we are aware that when we pick up a player at this time, he will have to spend some time getting in the same match form as the rest of the squad.
“Not to say that he is out of step, but we expect him to be built up in the first two to four weeks, so he is ready to make a crucial difference for us in the playoffs,” Ole Nielsen added.
Kamara is the second Sierra Leonean striker to join the club, Christian Moses played for the club and scored nine goals in nineteen appearances before leaving to join Viborg FF.

Sierra Leone and former Seattle Sounders Academy star, Victor Mansaray could make his V-League debut with Becamex Binh Duong FC today (February 21) when they take on Thanh Hoa in Vietnam’s top division.
The 22-year-old is said to have signed a short-term contract with the Vietnamese club who are allowed to register only four foreign players.
Further information stated that if the player failed to adapt with the team and the league, the club has the sole right to end his contract immediately without compensation before they can recruit another player in the second phase of the season.
Mansaray has had a spell with the Seattle Sounders FC training academy, a team playing in the American Major League Soccer (MLS) and later with Charleston Battery Club in the USL Championship (the US second-tier league) where he made 18 appearances and scored two goals.

After turning 18 in February 2015, Mansaray moved up to the U.S Under 20 national team where he made one appearance in 2015, followed by six others the following year scoring two goals.
After been dropped from the U.S. team for the 2017 U-20 World Cup, the striker said he was open to a called up by the Sierra Leone national team and on June 5, 2017, he received his first Sierra Leone called up for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya but was an unused sub.
