Brazil to face Senegal and Nigeria in Singapore next month

Brazil Football Confederation, CBF announced on its official website two international friendlies next month in Singapore.

As part of the Brazil Global Tour 2019, the first game will be against 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finalists Senegal on October 10, before taking on Nigeria on October 13.

Brazil and Senegal will be the first time the two teams have clashed in senior international football.

It is the second meeting between Brazil and Nigeria after a 3-0 friendly win for the Samba stars in Abuja in 2003.

“We chose two of the best African teams because they are high-level opponents,” Brazil Football Confederation official Juninho Paulista told the country’s association website.

“It was a wish of the technical commission. So we went after these opponents.”

Brazil defeated Cameroon in an international friendly last November after a lone goal from Everton star Richarlison, meaning they will play African opposition three times in 11 months.

$5000 reward for penalty hero Williams against Sierra Leone

$5000 reward for penalty hero Williams against Sierra Leone

  • The 18-year-old Liberian keeper, Ashley Williams has been rewarded for his crucial penalty saved on Sunday against Sierra Leone in Freetown.
  • Jos Travel Agency acknowledged the youngster’s effort after helping Lone Star to the group stage of the 2022 African World Cup qualifier.

William’s 94th minute saved was pivotal in the contest, having defeated the Leone Stars 3-1 in the first-leg at home on September 4.

The Lone Stars trailed 1-0 in the reverse fixture in Freetown and risked elimination if Sierra Leone skipper Umaru Bangura could have scored their last-gasp spot-kick to win 2-0.

As a result, Peter Butler’s side progressed with a 3-2 aggregate win.

The winner of each group will then face-off in home-and-away ties for a place at the global showpiece in Qatar 2022.

The Zimbabwe Warriors are through to the group stages of the 2022 World Cup qualifying rounds with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Zimbabwe on the day won 3-1 to overcome last Thursday’s 1-0 first-leg defeat to The Ocean Stars.

The victory is also a welcome relief to millions of the Warriors followers who had to endure the frustration of watching their team lose game after game since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt.

“We can now smile. It has been hard for us to watch our Warriors lose every game they took part in. I think, we are now on the right track,” said William Mahoko, a member of the Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters’ Association.

The Warriors are now waiting for the group stages draw, to be conducted by Fifa, to know the nation they will face as they seek a maiden appearance at the global football festival.

Zimbabwe missed out of the 2018 World Cup after the country was thrown out by Fifa following the failure by the Zimbabwe Football Association to pay then Warriors coach Jose ‘Valinhos’ Claudinei Georgini his salary.

The Warriors also have 2021 Africa Cup of Nations engagements in which they are in the same group with Africa champions, Algeria, Botswana, and Zambia. Two teams from the group qualify for the finals to be held in Cameroon.

After yesterday’s fiasco, H.E Bio pays unannounced visit to Lone Star

  • President Bio visited the Liberian delegation, condemns Yesterday’s Attack.

His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio has paid an unannounced visit to the Liberian football delegation ahead of today’s encounter between Leone Stars of Sierra Leone and Lone Stars of Liberia at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.

  • The Sierra Leone Football Association has condemned the behaviour of some fans towards the Liberian national team on Saturday at the National Stadium in Freetown.
  • Many soccer pundits have described the incident as an ‘embarrassment’. A disgusting show of sportsmanship towards the Liberians.

The Liberians are in Freetown to honour the second leg fixture of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers slated for today at the Freetown Stadium.

The Lone Star won the first leg 3-1 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Wednesday.

The SLFA’s statement reads; “Following reports of threats and intimidation by some Sierra Leone football supporters towards the Liberian National team. The SLFA wishes to inform the public that it unequivocally disassociates itself from any of the violence or intimidation in football.”

Ahead of Leone Stars’ game on Sunday, the SLFA said that “the isolated event which is making the rounds in social media is an unfortunate reflection of one of the ills in football that the SLFA strongly advocates against.”

A strong allegation from the Liberia Football Association with video and photos that stones were thrown at their players and officials due to the lack of security presence.

A report from LFA stated that head coach Peter Butler was compelled to call-off Saturday’s afternoon training session at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown following the invasion of the session by angry Sierra Leoneans.

“A request from LFA communications director Danesius Marteh for a closed-door session was downplayed.

Liberia’s coach Butler has threatened that he can’t play under any violence condition if the security of his players’ safety not guaranteed by the government and the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA),” LFA said in a statement.
