Coach Bah hopeful ahead of Sierra Queens second leg qualifier

Coach Bah hopeful ahead of Sierra Queens second leg qualifier

After their first-leg 2-0 defeat to the female Scorpions of the Gambia on Monday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, coach Abdulai Bah says his side will give everything as they try to make the next stage.

The visitors scored twice in the second half as they held on to an important away win over their counterparts Sierra Queens in Liberia.

Following a goalless first half, goals from Ola Buwaro 53rd-minute and Ruggy Joof 77th-minute have given the visitors a massive advantage ahead of the return fixture in the Gambia.

Sierra Leone coach Abdulai Bah is optimistic as they prepare to depart Freetown for the Gambia on Saturday. He believes they can still make the next round of the competition.

“We still have hope. We played well in the first leg in Liberia. We give away easy goals in the second half after we failed to take advantage of the first half, but this is football anything can happen over 90-minutes,” Bah told FSL news on Friday.

“The team will give everything in the second leg in the Gambia, and we’ll see what happens after full-time.”

The return fixture will now play at the Independence Stadium (Bakau) in The Gambia on the 25th of October.

Meanwhile, eight-five goals were registered across the first nineteen contested matches in the first leg of the first qualifying round of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022.

The return leg will take place from October 23 to 26, 2021, across the continent.

Chad returns to International football after Fifa ban

Chad returns to International football after Fifa ban

Chad’s International football suspension has been lifted, the world governing body FIFA said on Tuesday after they were banned in March due to government interference.

Fifa said in a statement that Chad’s suspension was lifted with immediate effect since the government had restored power to the Chadian Football Federation (FTFA) and revoked its decision to create a national football management committee.

Fifa and the Confederation of African Football (Caf) will soon conduct a joint mission to N’Djamena to follow the ongoing discussions between Chadian authorities and the FTFA, Fifa said.

Chad was disqualified from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year after quarrels between the sports ministry and the football federation led the government to set up a new committee to manage the sport by presidential decree.

Chad’s sports ministry said in a statement that the suspension was lifted following various discussions between Chadian authorities, Fifa and Caf.

Moctar Mahamoud Hamid, president of the Chadian Football Association, said on national radio that he welcomed the decision.

“We are going to make a fresh start on the development of football in Chad.”

Sierra Leone to wrap up training camp with Morocco

  • Sierra Leone national team on Tuesday will wrap up their training camp against the Atlas Lions homebased team at the Stade El Bachir, Mohammédia.

Houcine Ammouta’s men leading the four-nation tournament pecking order will face Sierra Leone in their last friendly match in October.

Without any exaggeration, it is expected to be an exciting contest as John Keister’s side go up against a solid and composed Moroccan home-based side who have scored nine goals in their last two games.

The Moroccan local-based are the reigning African Champions after their 2-0 triumph over Mali at the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde in February this year.

The North African reign supreme over the Gambia, who was heavily defeated 7-2 in their opener at the Stade El Bachir, Mohammédia last Thursday.

The Atlas Lions, leading the table with seven points after two wins and Sierra Leone on four points having won against the Gambians and 1-1 draw against South Sudan.

WCQ Wrap-up: Cape Verde edge Liberia as CAR stun Nigeria

The Lone Star of Liberia suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde at the Accra Sports Stadium in Ghana, denting their hopes further to reach the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Liberia took the lead in their Group C tie just before the breakthrough Van-Dave Harmon’s well-taken striker given his side a first-half lead.

In the second half, the white-shirted Blue Sharks rallied from behind to score twice from two substitutes, including an injury-time screamer from Garry Rodrigues.

Jamiro Meitero had levelled the scoreline in the 52nd minute before Garry Rodrigues last-gasp winner to stunned the West Africans.

As a result, Liberia is sitting bottom of the group with three points from their last three games.

Elsewhere, Super Eagles were stunned after substitute Karl Namnganda scored a dramatic 90th-minute goal as Central African Republic registered their first group win as they bid to reach Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Namnganda came off the bench in Lagos to make only his second appearance for his country after being substituted when he debuted against Liberia last month.

He silenced Nigerian supporters by winning a sprint down the middle of the pitch against two defenders and firing a low shot past goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

Nigeria, however, still leading the group after winning their first two matches.

Cape Verde host Liberia on Sunday while Nigeria takes on the Central African Republic in the group next matches.

Morocco top Group I after thrashing Guinea Bissau

Morocco proved too strong for Guinea-Bissau in their matchday three of FIFA World Cup, Qatar 2022 qualifiers group I, thrashing Guinea Bissau 5-0 at Moulay Prince Abdellah in Rabat.

As a result, the Atlas Lions leading the group with six points from two games, two more than second-placed Guinea and Guinea Bissau, while Sudan trails the group on one point.

The North African giant dominated the game from the start as they registered five goals to give Coach Vahid Halilhodžić an astounding win.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi put Morocco ahead at the half-hour mark, making use of a defensive error.

And right before the break, it became 2-0 when Imrane Louza scored from the spot to double the Moroccans’ lead.

In the second half, the Atlas Lions continued dominating, and four minutes after halftime Ilias Chair added the third goal past Guinea Bissau goalkeeper Jonas Mendes with a superb strike.

Just after the hour mark, it became 4-0. Striker Ayoub El Kaabi scored with a beautiful acrobatic kick from a close range to sign a usual beauty from the former Wydad forward.

With eight minutes remaining, Munir El Haddadi put the icing on the cake scoring Atlas Lions’ fifth of the night as Morocco ended the game in style.

Both sides will lock horns again next Sunday in Casablanca before Morocco taking on Guinea on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Sudan came from behind to draw parity against Guinea’s Syli Nationale with a decent goal through Saif Eldin Terry in the 72nd minute at the Grand Stade in Marrakech, Morocco.

Sudan earned their first Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers Group I point with a 1-1 draw against Guinea.
