Kei Kamara heads in as Chicago Fire, NYB share spoils

MLS legend Kei Kamara continued his fine form with Chicago Fire after he scored in their 1-1 draw against New York RB on Saturday night at Soldier Field.

The Fire took the lead shortly before halftime when forward Kei Kamara tallied his team-leading fourth goal of the season, placing him just two goals shy of Landon Donovan’s 145 career MLS tallies.

However, Cory Burke’s goal in the 89th minute lifted the visiting New York Red Bulls to a 1-1 draw against the Chicago Fire on Saturday.

Kamara scored his 143rd MLS regular season goal in the 34th minute following some back-and-forth play between Maren Haile-Selassie and Arnaud Souquet on the right flank.

Haile-Selassie played Souquet behind the defence, and the French defender sent a perfectly timed cross for Kamara to head into the net.

The 38-year-old took to Twitter to express his delight, “A win was the goal but fell short (Result 1-1). We continued the home unbeaten streak for the season. We’re almost there, guys. BELIEVE.”

Sierra Leone-born Trevoh Chalobah on Chelsea’s poor run

Sierra Leone-born Trevoh Chalobah on Chelsea’s poor run

Sierra Leone-born Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has admitted in his post-match interview that Chelsea players are suffering just like the supporters after their 2-0 defeat to Brentford on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

The London club are in a desperate situation to lift themselves as they sit 11th, fourteen points adrift of the top six, with six games left to play in this campaign.

They are yet to win a football match under caretaker manager Frank Lampard since Graham Potter was sacked.

Lampard’s side suffered another home defeat 2-0 by West London rivals Brentford on Wednesday night – Lampard’s fifth defeat from five matches.

Speaking to the club’s website, Chalobah, 23, who is one of the academy graduates, expressed concern as he admitted tough times.

“It’s a very tough one,’ said Chalobah after the final whistle against Brentford. ‘For me, being here since I was young as well, it’s difficult to see the club I’ve supported all my life is in a difficult situation now.

But we’ve got to stick together. It’s obviously a difficult moment for us, for the team, and we’ve just got to look forward to the next game and try and give our best.

“Everyone’s feeling it right now. As I said, all we can do is keep going every day, working hard in training, turning up and trying to do our best.”

Following several loan spells, Chalobah made his Chelsea debut in the 2021 UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal on August 11th 2021, in their 6–5 in a penalty shoot-out victory after the match finished in a 1–1 draw after extra time.

Three days later, Chalobah made his Premier League debut in Chelsea’s opening match of the season against Crystal Palace, where he also scored his first-ever Premier League goal in a 3–0 win.

This season he has been in and out of the squad making nineteen appearances as they struggled to regain top form.

CAFCC – ASEC Mimosas share spoils with US Monastir

Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas played to a barren draw against Tunisia’s US Monastir in the first leg of their TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup at the Stade Olympique de Radèson Sunday, CAF reports.

The result means they will be hoping to take advantage at home when the sides clash in the return fixture next weekend.

Visitors Asec had the best opportunities on the balance of chances in the first half, but they were denied by a combination of good goalkeeping from Sadok Yedes and a lack of composure in the final third.

Agbalegah Zuma had a brilliant diving header saved by the keeper before Esis Flugence had another effort saved at the near post by the keeper.

Pacome Zouzoua then lined up on the list of chances with a brilliant shot from a distance which keeper Yedes did brilliantly to pluck away.

Heykeul Chikhaoui had the best chance for the home side when he lined up a shot from inside the box, but it was blocked Ahmed Jafeli should have done better with a second-half chance, but he took too many touches inside the box, allowing the defenders to race back and block his final effort.

It is everyone’s game heading into next weekend’s return tie, with the game evenly poised at 0-0.
