Sierra Leone’s Bangura & Cambuur relegated from Eredivisie

Sierra Leone’s Bangura & Cambuur relegated from Eredivisie

Sierra Leone left-back Alex Bangura and Cambuur have officially been relegated from the Eredivisie after their 3-0 defeat to FC Utrecht on Saturday evening with three games remaining.

Bangura, 23, who extended his Cambuur contract until 2024 last year, will have to play second-tier football next season if he stays at the club.

A six-game losing run left the bottom-of-the-table Yellow-Blues on 16 points with three games left to play, 12 points adrift of 15th-placed Emmen and 16th-placed Excelsior in the relegation playoff spot.

After five years in the Eerste Divisie, Cambuur was promoted to the Eredivisie in 2020-21 and finished ninth last term during a respectable first season back in the top flight, but they have only won four of their 31 games during a disastrous campaign this time around.

He joined Cambuur from Feyenoord’s youth academy in 2018, has made almost a hundred appearances for SC Cambuur.

The Sierra Leone International has been an integral figure for the Dutch top tier in the last three seasons.

Steven Caulker’s Wigan relegated from Championship

Steven Caulker’s Wigan relegated from Championship

Wigan Athletic were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship after they could only manage a 1-1 draw at relegation rivals Reading on Saturday.

A last-gasp equaliser was enough as they were condemned to relegation from the Championship, with the 1-1 draw at relegation rivals Reading sealing their fate.

They concluded their campaign with another goalless draw against Rotherham on Monday. It’s unclear whether the Sierra Leone skipper Steven Caulker will remain at the club for a further season.

Caulker, 31, joined the club on a deal until the end of the 2022/23 Championship campaign.
Since joining the club in January, Caulker has featured nine times for the Latics.

Caulker was signed to help the club battle a struggling campaign. The captain of the Sierra Leone national team after switching allegiances in October 2021, with his wealth of experience, Caulker has played over 300 senior games in his career to date.

Kei Kamara speaks on milestone MLS appearances

Sierra Leone Players AbroadMLS legend Kei Kamara told this medium that ‘it has been a blessing to have played for so many clubs in the US after he clocked up his 400th Major League Soccer appearance with Chicago Fire in a 3-0 defeat to Nashville SC at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday night.

Speaking to Football Sierra Leone after his milestone accomplishment, he confided, “It is a great achievement, and I have to give myself a lot of credit for the consistency over the years.”

“I am blessed to have played for this many clubs and scored this many goals, but to play in Major League Soccer for this long. It is truly a blessing. Now, I am focusing on what the future holds. And I am looking forward to making more history on the field.”
