Uganda head coach and former Sierra Leone boss Johnathan McKinstry has expressed his satisfaction ahead of the 2021 African Nations Championship (CHAN) competition.
As his side set to open their continental tournament with a clash against East African rivals Rwanda next Monday, January 18, the Northern Irish man took to Twitter to expressed his satisfaction with his team’s preparations.
Uganda will battle it out with holders Morocco, regional rivals Rwanda and debutants Togo in Group C.
CHAN tournament will run from January 16 to February 7, 2021, in Cameroon.
“The energy in camp is good with everyone focused on maximising the final week of preparations with @UgandaCranes and being in peak condition for the 18th January.”
Under McKinstry’s supervision, Sierra Leone achieved their highest ever FIFA World Ranking position of 50th in 2014.
The 2021 competition will be the 6th edition of the biennial showpiece organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), exclusively for players who feature in their domestic leagues.

Swiss second-tier side Neuchâtel Xamax have recruited Sierra Leone skipper Umaru Bangura on a short term deal until the end of the 2020/2021 season with an option for the following season.
Bangura, 33, was released by FC Zurich, whose colours he had worn since 2016 (80 matches for the Swiss club, including 63 top-tier games).
Bangura joined FC Zurich from Dinamo Minsk at the beginning of August 2016 and helped the City club gain promotion to Super League during the 2016–17 season when they won the Challenge League ahead of Neuchâtel Xamax and returned after one year to the Super League.

The 2021 Total CAF Champions League Group Stage is set to be exciting after the draw was completed at CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Friday 8 January 2021.
The draw was conducted by CAF Head of competitions Khaled Nassar, assisted by Egypt’s legend Hossam Ghaly.
The group stage produced some exciting pairings as last season’s titleholders, Ahly of Egypt will face the opposition of AS Vita, Simba and El Merrick.
The round-robin phase scheduled to kick-off on February 12-13, with Chiefs starting with a trip to Wydad and Sundowns hosting Al Hilal, and will then conclude by April 9-10.

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) in partnership with FIFA is set to construct three stadiums with a sitting capacity of 3000 people each in the districts of Rutsiro, Rusizi and Gicumbi.

The project will begin soon and is expected to cost Rwf 2 billion ($2016616.31)
FERWAFA Secretary-General François Régis Uwayezu said the federation will also partner with districts to build artificial turfs in five other districts in line with their vision of boosting football infrastructure.
“Construction of the three stadiums will start soon since the procurement process is complete. We are also in talks with five other districts to build five other football pitches which can be used by talented young footballers.”
“The goal is to build more stadiums not only with money from FIFA but also with budgets from districts which will host the stadiums,” Uwayezu said.
It is also expected that once finalised, the stadiums will boost sports promotion and development of youth talent at the grassroots level as part of the government’s broader strategy to promote sports.
Construction of the stadiums and Artificial turfs was agreed on during a meeting that the FERWAFA General Assembly held on May 5, 2019, in Musanze. The Assembly recommended that 10 stadiums should be built in different parts of Rwanda.
Amahoro National Stadium is the largest stadium in the country with a capacity of 25,000, followed by Bugesera stadium with a capacity of 15,000.
Huye Stadium with (10,000), Kigali Regional Stadium (7,000), Nyagatare stadium accommodate 7000 and Ngoma has a seater-capacity of 6000 while Umuganda Stadium can host 5,200 fans.
Due to good infrastructures, Rwanda was endorsed to host the 2016 CHAN edition after the country staged two successful youth continental tournaments in a space of three years, including the 2009 U-20 Africa Youth Championships as well as the U-17 Championship in 2011.
Ten months after lockdown imposed on football and contact sports activities over fears of the spread of coronavirus pandemic, the National Sports Authority, NSA have lifted all suspension.
In March 2020, football and other sporting activities across Sierra Leone were suspended.
As a result, the top-tier football league, division two and other sports in the country were all affected.
“Following constructive engagement with the National Covid-19 Emergency Response Center, (NaCOVERC) on the ban on sporting activities to be lifted,” NSA said in a statement.
The release further confirmed football matches and related activities, will continue behind closed doors.
“The decision is in consonance with our observance of the country’s Covid-19 regulations and restrictions in order to reduce the risk of the spread of the disease.”
Meanwhile, big spenders Bo Rangers were top of the league table with 23 points from 13 matches played during the first half of the halted season.
