Alhassan Kamara pens deal with Swedish side IFK Värnamo

  • Sierra Leone striker Alhssan Crespo Kamara has signed one-year deal with Swedish Superetan side IFK Värnamo.
  • IFK Värnamo announced the news on their official Facebook page that Kamara is ready for the club.

The 28-year-old striker last season played with Halmstads BK, where he helped them gain Swedish Allsvenskan promotion

Kamara, who joined the Swedish side from Greek top-flight side Panetolikos in March 2020, scored in the 93rd-minute to wrapped up a six-goal victory away from home in their bid to promotion.

He will join fellow Sierra Leonean Michael Kargbo and Suffian Kalokoh at the club.

“We have been looking for a strong forward, and I think we have found that in Crespo. He is a strong forward, with energy in both feet,” sports director Håkan Söderberg to the club’s website.

“With his experience, he will be a great help to the younger guys in the team. He has the right personality and will fit perfectly into our squad,” he explained.

IFK Värnamo is a newcomer to the Superettan . Kamara scored two goals in 14 games last season with Halmstad BK.

Caf bans Sierra Leone’s decrepit national stadium

Caf bans Sierra Leone’s decrepit national stadium

  • Sierra Leone’s decrepit national stadium has been banned by CAF from staging foreign matches until it up to International standards.

In a communication to the Sierra Leone Football Association, the Confederation of African Football, CAF, informed the FA that the Capital Stadium in Freetown lacks adequate facilities, Football Sierra Leone understands.

Sierra Leone are due to host Benin in their next home game on 30 March, their final African Cup of Nations Group L qualifier, days after their away tie at the Setsoto Stadium in Lesotho.

However, CAF latest decision will force the SLFA to look on the road for a neutral venue for Leone Stars to play their Group L final match against Benin.

The Leone Stars goalless draw against Nigeria has exposed the reckless and fragile state of the Siaka Steven Stadium, many soccer pundits believe.

After the Nigeria game last year, we understand Caf warned the SLFA to improve facilities at the stadium, but little has been done since.

The Brookfields Stadium was built in 1979 and has been in existence for over 40 years.

FIFA suspended the venue in 1992 for one year due to overcrowding. The Leone Stars had to use the 28th September Stadium in neighbouring Guinea to play host to Senegal and Togo in qualifiers for the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations.

In March 2008, FIFA banned the said venue due to poor dressing rooms and a sub-standard pitch.

In February 2017, the Presidential Pavilion of the Siaka Stevens Stadium was given a facelift with 950 chairs installed as part of the upgrade to an all-seater international standard.

  • After two assists in his last four appearances for FC Copenhagen, Mustapha Bundu will face some familiar faces on Sunday in the Danish Superliga.
  • The Sierra Leone international, who joined Copenhagen from Belgian side Anderlecht on loan, will line up against AGF Aarhus at Parken Stadium, Copenhagen.

Bundu, 24, scored 21 goals 25 assists in 109 appearances during his time with former Danish club AGF Aarhus in four seasons from 2016 to 2020.

It is expected to be a cracker as third-placed AGF travel to face Copenhagen on fourth.

However, the Leone Stars attacker has struggled in front of goal since his move away from AGF.

He has not scored in his last 13 games between Anderlecht, and Copenhagen, a stats he will be gearing to change.

The former Hereford winger will face a good number of his former team he still has a good relationship with.

Both sides have lock horns 77 times in the Danish Superliga Copenhagen won 37 while AGF 18 and 22 draws.
