Sullay Kaikai nets first Sierra Leone goal in draw against South Sudan

South Sudan Bright Stars left it late as they grabbed a last-gasp equaliser against Sierra Leone in Wednesday friendly international at the Stade El Abdi in Morocco.

Their goal came from a free-kick near the 18 yards as Musa Asad sent in a fine cross that met Loki Emmanuel, who converted a header in the 93rd minute for the leveller.

Wycombe Wanderers attacker gave Sierra Leone the lead with his first international goal after a good display.

Kaikai’s took his goal well assisted by Queens Park Rangers left-back Osman Kakay.

South Sudan enjoyed a better ball possession in the first half, but that counted for nothing after Queens Park Rangers right-back Osman Kakay through pass for Sullay Kaikai, who waved his way in before slot a fine left-footed shot in the 41st minute.

Alhassan Koroma was subbed off due to a knock and was replaced with FC Kallon Saidu Fofanah in the 19th minute.

The West Africans were brilliant for most of the game and could have doubled their when scorer Sullay Kaikai cross in that was headed over the crossbar by Kwame Quee.

The Bright Stars of South Sudan never relents until dying minute into added time to find their leveller.

Next up for Sierra Leone is the Gambia on 9th October and Morocco on 12th October, both being played in Casablanca.

Iraq Premier League club Al-Mina’a have completed the signing of Sierra Leone defensive midfielder Khalifa Jabbie.

Jabbie, 28, who recently played with Sierra Leone Premier League side East End Lions after penned a short-term deal, will continue his career with one of the most popular clubs in Iraq.

Although the club did not mention any details of the contract, the midfielder arrived yesterday evening in Basra to strengthen the ranks of the Sailors.

The Iraqi football league is contested by 20 clubs and operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) on a promotion and relegation basis with the Iraq Division One.

Jabbie was recently part of the Sierra Leone 0-0 draw against Ethiopia at the Bahir Dar International Stadium on August 26. 

He started his playing career in 2011 with his home club FC Kallon before his move to Europe, joining the Norwegian side Fredrikstad and has had spells with Balıkesirspor, Sheriff Tiraspol, Racing Beirut, Cheshunt and Sfîntul Gheorghe.

The 6ft 3 made his international debut in March 2011. A one-time captain of the Sierra Leone Under-20 national known as the Shooting Stars won major Moldovan silverwares the Championship and Moldavian Cup since 2009.

Coach John Keister has been handed an opportunity to look at some of his new inclusions in the training camp ahead of the African Cup of Nations next year in Cameroon. 

The Leone Stars square off against South Sudan on Wednesday before taking the Gambia and Morocco in their test outing scheduled to take place on 6th, 9th and 12th October.

Five of the 19-foreign-based will not be available due to minor injures and personal issues. Skipper Umaru Bangura, Örebro SK defender Kevin Wright and Alie Sesay out injured.

Genoa attacker Yayah Kallon, Panetolikos winger Jonathan Morsay are out of friendly matches in Casablanca Morroco for personal reasons. 

They completed their first training session at the Royal Golf Center on Monday.

The West African nation played 0-0 in their last outing against Ethiopia at the Bahir Dar International Stadium on 26th August.

Sierra Leone will use matches as preparation ahead of the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon next year.

Barnet FC defender David Sesay, who has been on Kenya wish list in the last two years set to make his Sierra Leone debut in Morocco.

Sesay, 23, could make his debut if selected against South Sudan on Wednesday the 6th as part of three friendlies line up in Morocco.

Sierra Leone gearing up ahead of the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon will rehearse against South Sudan, the Gambia 9th and Morocco on 12th October.

The Barnet defender, who is qualified to play for the West African nation through his dad, is part of 19-foreign based named by coach John Keister for training camp in Casablanca.

Born in Brent London, he came through the Watford FC academy before penning a permanent deal with League Two side Crawley Town in 2018.

Two years ago, several reports claimed he was in line to represent Kenya during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, but the plan failed to work out. 

He has been a pivotal player since joining the National League side, Barnet.

Meanwhile, fourteen players completed their first training with seven seven-foreign based at the Royal Golf Center. 

Home-based players 

Mahmoud Fofana, Ibrahim Sesay, Yeami Dunia, Mohamed N. Kamara, Saidu Fofana, Abubakarr Samura and Saidu Mansaray;

Seven foreign-based players 

Alusine Koroma, Alhassan Koroma, Sulaiman Kaikai, Kwame Quee, Osman Kakay, Augustus Kargbo Crotone, and (David Sesay Barnet FC England). 

Seven more players are expected to join the training camp today. East End Lions Abdul Razak Conteh will replace injured Kelvin Wright.

Örebro SK defender Kevin Wright will miss Sierra Leone friendly matches against South Sudan, the Gambia and Morocco on the 6th, 9th and 12th October, respectively, in Casablanca Morroco.

The former Chelsea youth defender was forced off in the fifth minute in Orebro SK 2-1 defeats on Sunday to Häcken after he suffered a hamstring at their Behrn Arena stadium.

Wright, 25, who was making his sixteen Allsvenskan appearances of the season, told this medium he was disappointed due to his injury.

“I’m disappointed after I pulled my hamstring today in the game, and I have to come off after five minutes, so I will not be available for upcoming friendlies,” Wright told FSL UK.

The former Fredrikstad FK is the fourth player named in the 19-foreign-based list that will not be making the trip to the North African state of Morocco.

The West African nation played 0-0 in their last outing against Ethiopia at the Bahir Dar International Stadium on 26th August.

Sierra Leone will use matches as preparation ahead of the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon next year.

Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone delegation has safely arrived in the Moroccan port city named El Jadida, where they checked in at the Ibis Hotel.
