Lions’ Keeper Kamara rallies troops ahead of Blackpool cracker

East End Lions goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara has urged teammates to maintain the high standards they showcase last season.

The Killers were left stunned after their opening 1-0 defeat, but Kamara maintained that will serve as a motivation to his side.

Keister’s men in a bid to revamp their season will be out searching for an instant response when they go toe to toe against arch-rivals Mighty Blackpool on Sunday at the Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown.

It’s going to be edgy after the champions opening defeat of the new campaign against Ports Authority, their first in 25 matches played under coach John Keister.

Host Blackpool will know their visitors will not want a two straight defeat.

Kamara reckons the standards they set themselves last season must be upheld despite a difficult start.

“We are playing a League, not one match. I believe the defeat is going to be a motivation moving forward. Our defeat to Ports was hard to take, but not the end of the world,” Kamara to FSL News.

“Ports v Lions has always been a tradition. They always put up their best performances against us.”

“Last season, we won the league unbeaten, which means we cannot do so this season. However, as a team, we have to stay focus aiming at winning the league again.”

“Maintaining our standards is a new challenge for us. It’s going to be tough, but after our success last season, we have to keep it up.”

Kamara reiterated, “Every season has its aims and objectives. To be a champion, you have to play over 25 games this season. For us, our defeat is surely a motivation.”

The two most decorated sides played to a barren draw in the final day of last season.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday Kamboi Eagles defeat Freetown City FC to maintain their 100% start to the new season.

A 65th-minute goal from Ahmed Vandi separated the two sides at the Siaka Steven Stadium.
