Breaking: Kallon starlet Emmanuel Samadia joins Hapoel Tel Aviv on trial

FC Kallon’s promising prospect Emmanual Sahr Samadia on Wednesday evening departed Freetown for Israel to join Hapoel Tel Aviv on a month’s trial.

Hapoel Tel Aviv Football Club is an Israeli top-tier based in Tel Aviv.

Samadia, 19, who started his career as a 13-year-old boy with Sierra Leone Premier League side FC Kallon, has been handed a new opportunity to continue with his development.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Samadia, who has displaced his potential playing with us in the Sierra Leone top-tier. His pace, and power have caught the eye of several overseas clubs this year,” FC Kallon Chairman Tunde Scott to FSL News.

The exciting talent was part of the Sierra Leone African Cup of Nations squad as one of the home-based stars in the just concluded double-header against Nigeria.

Scott added, “Samadia is still developing, he started as a youth player with us. He has been one of the most impressive young players in our club. Legend and club owner Mohamed Kallon has done well for him with his development.”

Samadia has also represented Sierra Leone at the recent U20 West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A Championship at the Stade Lat-Dior de Thies, Senegal.

Senegal fight back to earn Wafu U20 draw against Sierra Leone

  • Both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw in Senegal.

Hosts and holders Senegal came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Sierra Leone in their West African Football Union, WAFU opening Group A tie at the stade Lat-Dior in Thies, Senegal on Friday.

Sierra Leone’s Abu Kommeh scored in the 55th-minute from a tape in, but the Senegalese rallied a goal down to level the scoreline in the 67th minutes from Samba Diallo.

The last time the two sides met in December 2019, the Senegalese walloped Shooting Stars 4-1 in the 2019 opener in Guinea.

To be safe, Shooting Stars must win in their next game against the Gambians scorpions on the 24th to ensure a quarter-final spot.

Meanwhile, in group B, Mali takes on Guinea Bissau in the early kickoff while Guinea entertains Mauritania at the same venue on Saturday respectively.

AFCONQ: Sierra Leone and Nigeria share spoils in Freetown

AFCONQ: Sierra Leone and Nigeria share spoils in Freetown

  • Sierra Leone after their impressive come back in Nigeria last Friday was cautious in their matchday four of the Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifying match at the Freetown Stadium on Tuesday.

Both nations in the race to Cameroon 2022 played to a barren draw in a less entertaining encounter.

The result means Sierra Leone must win their remaining matches hoping Benin will drop points against Nigeria if they are to reach the Africa Cup of Nations for the third time since 1996 in South Africa.

Both sides were pragmatic in their approach with some scrappy football with far fewer clear chances.

Home-based defender Abu Bakarra Samura, who steps in for skipper Umaru Bangura was impressive.

Sierra Leone coach John Keister made three substitutions to bolster with some fresh legs; Anderlecht Mustapha Bundu was in for Rodney Strasser in 56. Alhaji Kamara, who scored a brace in the first leg was subbed off in the 76-minute before Mustapha Dumbuya was replaced with Osman Kakay, in an attempt to nick the game.

Elsewhere in the group, Benin battled a goalless draw at the Setsoto Stadium earlier today.

Nigeria stood the top of Group L with eight points, one more than second-placed Benin. Sierra Leone on three points, and Lesotho on two.

Meanwhile, Senegal becomes the first nation to qualify for the tournament slated for Cameroon.

The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations is the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men’s football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Sierra Leone: Mohamed Kamara, Mohamed Buya Turay, Mustapha Dumbuya (Osman Kaykay 81’), Yeami Dunia, Alhaji Kamara (Alhassan Koroma 76’), Kei Kamara, Medo, Kwame Quee, Rodney Strasser (Mustapha Bundu 56’), Abu Suma, Kevin Wright

AFCON: Eagles wings nearly clipped in Benin by resilient Leone Stars

  • Sierra Leone in search of their third African Cup Of Nations final come from 4-0 down to 4-4 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Friday.
  • Thanks to a brace from Randers FC striker Alhaji Kamara, who scored in the 72nd and 86th minutes while the Anderlecht man Mustapha Bundu impressed with his 80th-minute goal.
  • As a result, Sierra Leone up to third in Group L while Nigeria remain top spot on seven points, four clear of Benin who hosts Lesotho on Saturday.

Host super Eagles race into quick four goals lead from Alex Iwobi’s brace, Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwuese in the opening half-hour, but their resilient visitors fought back.

Sierra Leone was able to pull a goal back before the interval as Kwame Quee slipped the ball underneath the onrushing Maduka Okoye.

Rodney Michael set to declare for SLFA Presidency

Prominent football philanthropist and seasoned administrator, Rodney Michael is set to declare for the Presidency of the Sierra Leone Football Association, close allies have informed Football Sierra Leone.

In 2013, Rodney Michael and Sierra Leone superstar Mohamed Kallon were among those disqualified from contesting the SLFA presidential election.

As a result, Isha Johansen, who now doubles as CAF Executive Council member, went unopposed to become the first female president of the SLFA.

Rodney Michael remains the most revered and popular football administrator in the country.  His declaration is bound to trigger another hot contest in the race. It will be interesting to know what happens next after his pronouncement.

Close sources have indicated another attempt to find ways of disqualifying his candidacy is already brewing. Football Sierra Leone will follow this developing story as it unveils.
