Pitch invasion disrupts reigning champions revival

A late penalty awarded to Bai Bureh Warriors against defending champions East End Lions during Saturday’s match in Port Loko saw the tie ended in chaos.

Video evidence below showed unacceptable sportsmanship displayed in the North West Province of Sierra Leone.
 
The reigning champions in the hunt for their first win were leading through a Masalaki Bangura goal. However, after a spot-kick was awarded to the host team in the 85th min by referee Rashid Conteh, the tie descended into disorder as fans stormed the pitch.
 
Images of fans invaded the playing field obstructed the conclusion of the match. The Sierra Leone Premier League Board are yet to make a statement.
 
A source close to the Board has confirmed disciplinary action will be taken after they examine what leads to this unforeseen situation.
 
On the same day, Bo Rangers and Central Parade continue with their 100% league form following a back to back Premier League win on Saturday.
 
Kabba Tucker scored his second of the season in the 87th minute for big spenders Rangers as they rallied to defeat Mount Auroel SLIFA at their Southern Province stadium.
 
Central Parade, on the other hand, with two men down in the 56th-minutes, won through a Saidu Bangura 75th-min winner assisted by Ibrahim Dixon in the ongoing season as they move up to second on the log.
 
Elsewhere, FC Kallon played to a barren draw with Old Edwardians at the Siaka Steven Stadium.
 
The season continues today, with Kamboi Eagles hosting Mighty Blackpool, both teams searching for their first win. Diamond Stars hosting the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces whilst Sierra Leone Police battle FC Johnsen.

Davies nets winner in Johansen win as Parade stun Diamond Stars

FC Johansen secured its first win in their opening fixture of the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League against Kamboi Eagles at the BO Mini stadium over the weekend. 

Melvin Davies scored the only goal in the 87th-minute, his second goal against Kamboi Eagles. Last season, he was on target against the Eagles to stop their unbeaten run during the 2019/20 League season. 

Abdulai Bah Head Coach FC Johansen express his delight after securing maximum point away to Kamboi Eagles in their season opener. 

“I felt happy to win against a team with the tendency of winning the league. It’s a good step for us to challenge for this year’s title, ” Bah told FSL News. 

Bah further noted that they put up a brave fight until the end of the match, as such display yields the dividend.

FC Johansen next outing is against Sierra Leone Police on 2nd May at the National Stadium.

On the same day, Central Parade stunned Diamond Stars with a 1-0 win in the Eastern Province town of Sierras Leone.

Kassim Turay, the skipper in the Number 6 jersey, scored from a 35-yeards shot. Their second win over Diamond Stars in three years.

Wusum Stars played to a barren draw against the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces at home.

  • Musa Noah Kamara, better known as Musa Tombo, scored on his debut for Bo Rangers in a thrilling 2-1 win over former side Lions at the Southern Province Stadium on Saturday.
The Rangers new acquisition scored the crucial equaliser against the reigning champions, where he won the 2019/20 league top-scoring award with 15 goals.
 
Kamara teased Lions fans as he celebrated his goal that cancelled out Ibrahim Kamara 41st-minute opener for the visitors in front of the packed stands watching fans.
 
The host momentum ignited after the break as Kabba Tucker accounted for the winner sending the fans to ecstasy.
 
On the same day, Mighty Blackpool played to a 1-1 draw against Bai Bureh Warriors in Port Loko mini arena away from home whilst Old Edwardians played to a barren draw with Freetown City FC in Freetown.
 
On Friday, FC Kallon proved too strong with a 3-0 hammering over Port Authority with goals from Baimba Sesay, Saliue Tarawalie, and an own goal were enough for the Cavaliers to open their season with a win.
 
Police FC held East End Tigers to a goalless draw as Anti-Drugs Strikers failed to win against newly promoted Mount Auroel SLIFA.
 
The new eighteen teams 2021/22 season started with three goals on opening day from FC Kallon in the race for the title in a two-round league format after the Sierra Leone Football Association u-turn.

Ex-International Mohamed Fornah returns to Sierra Leone top-flight

Experienced right full-back Mohamed Fornah, who last played for Freetown City FC in 2012, has signed for newly promoted SLIFA Mount Aureol ahead of the new Sierra Leone Premier season.

The former Ports Authority and Central Parade defender set to captain his new side on Friday against Anti-Drugs FC in their season opener at the Approved School playing field.

SLIFA Mount Aureol were among the four newly promoted teams joining the traditional 14 teams, with 306 matches to be played across the country over the next three months, thirteen-month after the 2019-20 seasons, was declared null.

Fornah, who can be best described as a hostile watchdog in defence, departed Sierra Leone in 2005 to join Al-Saida in Lebanon.

“I am so excited to be back, ready to give my best in this level again and can’t wait to get started,” the 34-year-old told FSL News.

“I am here to help to pass on my experience, hopefully, be able to guide these young guys in the right direction. Never too late to be a mentor as I also want to enjoy it and have some fun.”

“New team, but determine as everyone at the club working on helping the team achieve a top-five position on debut season which will be a great success.”

Commonly known as Medo Reizeger, who won over fifteen caps with the Leone Stars, was part of the Sierra Leone U-17 side participated in the tenth edition of the FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland in August 2003.

A new Sierra Leone Premier League campaign set for kick-off

Thirteen months after the 2019-20 season was declared null, a new Sierra Leone Premier League campaign gets underway on Friday – with 306 matches to play over the next three-month.

Bai Bureh Warriors, Sierra Leone Police outfit, SLIFA Mount Aureol and Wusum Stars FC join the traditional 14 teams.

There are three opening matches spread across the day of the new season, two kicking-off at 16:15 local time with FC Kallon hosting Ports Authority in the day’s evening kicking off at the Siaka Steven Stadium.

For the first time in the country’s history, eighteen teams, including some traditional names, will race for the title in a one-round league format.

Newly promoted Sierra Leone Police side entertain East End Tigers on Friday at Kingtom Police field as Anti-Drugs Strikers welcome debutant SLIFA Mount Aureol in an eye-catching contest.

Anti-Drugs were the last team to win 2-0 against Freetown City FC before last season was cancelled.

Another mouthwatering showdown is Bai Bureh Warriors at home against one of Sierra Leone’s most decorated side Mighty Blackpool at the Port Loko playing field on Saturday.

On Sunday, Wusum Stars in the photo look to start brightly against the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces outfit RSLAF in Makeni as big spenders Bo Rangers in for a cracker hosting East End Lions.

Impressive Bo Rangers were top of the league table with 23 points from 13 matches played during the first half of the 2019/20 campaign before it was halted due to covid 19.

The new format will see each of the eighteen teams play seventeen games as was unanimously agreed by the Premier League Board (PLB) in consultation with the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).

Striker Musa Noah Kamara joins big spenders Bo Rangers 

  • Bo Rangers have confirmed striker Musa Noah Kamara transfer from East End Lions.
  • Kamara scored 15 goals during the 2019 Sierra Leone Premier League.
  • The 20-year-old, who recently returned from Norway, was pivotal with the East End giants club when they won the title.

The 2019 Sierra Leone Premier League top scorer, Musa Noah Kamara, aka Musa Tombo, has joined Bo Rangers on a permanent transfer.

The Southern Province top-tier side was leading the 2020 season before the campaign was halted due to the covid-19 pandemic.

According to a media report, Bo Rangers will pay Le50,000,000 with two players, midfielder Nathaniel Tangovular and Mohamed Gas Kamara, part of the deal.

The deal is reportedly worth in the region of Le225,000,000, including a price tag of Le100,000,000 for Anderson and Le75,000,00 for defender Mohamed Gas Kamara.

Tombo, who was recently left out of the Sierra Leone side for the recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, has won four caps since his debut, including back to back World Cup Preliminary qualifiers against Liberia in September 2019.

In August 2019, the striker opted to return home from Sweden after just a week of signing a three-year deal with Swedish club Trelleborgs.
