Swedish League 1 Sodra club Åtvidabergs FF, Ishmael Jaw-jaw Koroma, says is he excited to be part of the Sierra Leone senior men’s team.

Sierra Leone will start their FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign today against Mano River Union rivals, with Koroma hoping he can play some part.

The defender is among names of overseas-based players to face Liberia’s Lone Star later this evening at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex kickoff 6:00 PM GMT.

“I’m excited it is good as I’ve always wanted to be part of this family, the Sierra Leone national team, Koroma told FSL Media from Liberia.

“I was with the National Team in 2014, a couple of years back, before I travelled to Sweden, but since then I was waiting for my opportunity.”

The former Nykoping defender added; “I’ve two caps with the National team. In the 2014 Afcon qualifiers, I played against Swaziland when I was subbed on in the second half to play as centre back alongside captain Umaru Bangura. The return leg, I played right-back from the start.”

“I was proud of only these games before I was called up again.”

“After a long time, I get to meet with my national teammates, the old and new faces. Since we are together, we’ve been nice to each other and happy with each other.”

“This is a big opportunity for me. I am happy, and I’m looking forward to playing in this game. Hopefully, we can get the result ahead of the second leg at home.”

Three goals in three games for Abdul Sesay in Finland

  • Midfielder Abdul ‘Buduski’ Sesay scored his third goal in three matches for Oulun Luistinseura as they beat PK 37 4-2 on Sunday.

It was another impressive performance for Sesay and his new club overcoming a difficult opponent. As a result, they moved up to 8th in the Finnish in the Kakkonen Group C standing.

The visitors took the lead five minute before the break from a Myan Doot goal in the 40′ minute.

After the restart, hosts OLS scored three straight goals from Kemilia, Bohui and Sesay in the 49′, 59′ and 70′ minutes respectively as they raced into a 3-1 lead.

Jesse Ahman reduced the deficit seven-minute after Sesay’s goal to make it 3-2, but another fine goal from OLS’s Leevi Pekkala ensure they secure a 4-2 win on the day.

Sesay, who has been listed in the Sierra Leone squad ahead of the World Cup 2022 preliminary qualifier against Liberia says he was pleased with his goal.

”I’m always happy whenever I scored or assist, we have been working hard. The goal was my third in three matches played since I joined the club, so I am pleased,” Sesay told FSL News.

Kei Kamara sent off in Rapids Colorado’s 2-0 defeat

Kei Kamara was given a marching order late on against Real Salt Lake as Colorado Rapids suffered a 2-0 defeat on Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium as part of Heineken Rivalry Week.

The MLS fifth all-time goal scorer, who is facing a suspension by the Sierra Leone Football Association, was showed a straight red card by referee Ted Unkel for a bad challenge on RSL right back Brooks Lennon.

The game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes despite the Rapids were the better side.

Kamara, 34, was sent off in the 88th minute after a rough challenge towards Lennon’s thigh despite replay showed no contact. However, he will not be available next week.

The striker posted on Twitter after the match, “Never a Red card, Never a penalty, we worked too hard to lose in that manner. Sorry and thanks to our fans that came out tonight #Rapids96.”

In the 96th and 99th minute respectively, the host scored twice to ensure victory with goals from Joao Plata and Jefferson Savarino.

Kamara is currently leading Colorado scorer with 11 goals scored in MLS play this season.

Defender Mustapha Dumbuya scores first Phoenix Rising goal

Sierra Leone defender, Mustapha Dumbuya, gets his first Phoenix Rising goal in their 4-2 victory over Reno 1868 on Friday night at the Casino Arizona Field.

Dumbuya, who has been a key figure in the Rising campaign this season, help the club stretched their winning streak to 14 consecutive wins in the USL Championship.

Before kick-off, Reno was the second-place team behind Phoenix in the Western Conference standings but unfortunately, fall short against a difficult side.

A brace from Ghanaian Solomon Asante, Junior Flemmings, and Dumbuya was enough despite the visitors scoring twice but was not enough.

Solomon Asante becomes the club’s new career goals leader.

Their next outing will be against Sacramento Republic FC at the Casino Arizona Field, Scottsdale, AZ on Friday.

Abdul Sesay scores brace in OLS Oulu’s defeat

Sierra Leone’s Abdul Buduski Sesay delivered an impressive performance despite OLS suffered a 5-3 defeat against Vaajakoski in their eight-goal thriller on Saturday.

Sesay, who was making his second league appearance for the Finish third-tier scored in the 33rd and 41 st minute respectively since joining his new side.

Hosts Vaajakoski raced into an early lead with a six-minute goal from Peetu Lintinen before Laase Ikonen level score-line for the visitors seven-minute later.

Sesay puts his side ahead in the 33rd minute with a fine finish, but Lintinen scored again, this time from the spot to draw level in the 40 minutes.

Sesay completed his brace in the 41st three minutes, but their lead did not last long after Toni Jarvinen scored two-minute into extra time before the break.

Just after the restart, Lintinen of Vaajkoski completed his hattrick with another goal from Souraniemi, who ensure the host sealed the victory.

OLS next outing will be at home against Pallo-Kerho-37 on Sunday and Sesay will be hoping to continue with his goal-scoring form.

John Kamara ready for new Topaz Premier season

  • Sierra Leone international, John Kamara, says he is ready for the new Azerbaijan Topaz Premier League campaign
  • Kamara’s side Kesla FK have been dealt a tricky start to the season against defending champions Qarabag on Friday at the Dalga Arena

The midfielder was a key player for Kesla despite a difficult run last season. Kamara joined in January from Kazakhstan side Kaisar FC, where he played over 52 matches.

“I am ready, fully fit and can’t wait to get started,” Kamara to FSL News.

“Our pre-season was good, everyone looking forward to the first game against Qarabag.

“We have worked hard in Turkey during the pre-season to ensure that we start well, but is going to be tough against a difficult opponent.”

Kamara began his professional career with Tadamon Sour, before joining Greek side Apollon Smyrni F.C in 2012.

He later moved to PAS Lamia 1964 and has had spells with Aris Thessaloniki FC Riga and Kaisar FC.

He made his senior international debut for Sierra Leone in 2013 and, has appeared in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and has won over 13 caps for Sierra Leone.
